  1. i just don't think he can ever be a high leverage reliever either
  2. Fitts is nothing more than a throw in on a trade. he has very little value on his own
  3. could not agree more. The likely scenario following the actions of the last several years is to sign a SP or 2 coming off injury on a 1-2 yr deal and hope either Tolle or Early can progress to that #2 spot.
  4. to be honest Breman decision really should affect things that much as we still have the Devers $$ to spend one would think. We had Bregman at 40 million this season and saved about half the year of the Devers contract. That adds up to about 50-55 million.
  5. yeah but he hit over 2x the HR Duran and Abreu combined
  6. The Red Sox have not been signing long term FA deals for at least a few years now. They have focused mainly on 1-2 yr deals along with signing rehab pitchers. I don't see Tucker signing a 1-2 yr deal.
  7. signing Tucker won't get it done. He is a decent player but hits LH. With the current roster we need a RH power bat. I'm thinking Pete Alonso. I see Tucker as only a slight up grade over Abreu at a much higher cost. Now if Abreu is traded then maybe Tucker makes sense.
  8. Especially when you are counting on signing a number of pitchers coming off rehab and injuries. How has that worked out for us?
  9. i think you are replying to the wrong person as my post was simply agreeing that Schwarber likely was staying in Philly. To answer your question though I 100% feel that Henry has told Breslow {and the others before him since DD} their mandate is to put a competitive team on the field AND AT THE SAME TIME KEEP THE PAYROLL REASONABLE. I am confident that Henry was thrilled with this season. Payroll decreased relative to the rest of MLB and they made the postseason.. We certainly have not spent much if ANY of the Devers $$ and if Bregman leaves that is another 40 million Henry will save. Yes of course he will allow Breslow to spend SOME { but not close to all of it} likely on 2-3 players on 1-2 yr deals.
  10. we should be able to find bats that hit more than .256. Bregman will be a loss since he basically cost us Devers for possibly only 1 season in Boston. i agree though we certainly need offence as well as a #2 SP. I would be all over Pete Alonso in FA for starters.
  11. Abreu .247 Duran .256 Rafaela .249 regular season stats. hardly a small sample. Then the post season fiasco. I stand by my position.
  12. sadly we probably need to get ready for more 1-2 year deals. I know this sounds negative but I see the Sox taking a small step backwards next year as there are many holes to fill.. 1} outside of Anthony all our other OF are at best .250 hitters. Abreu, Rafaela, and Duran were a combined 1/26 in the NYY series. 2} We need at least 1 more high quality SP who can fill the #2 spot in the rotation. Buehler and May were awful and the Hendriks experiment failed miserably along with Fulmer. All cheap low risk signings. 3} 2B must be finally addressed without a revolving door of utility type players. 4} The C position must be strengthened. Naveraz slipped after a strong start and Wong was awful. 5} The bullpen is lacking depth after Chapman, Whitlock, and Slaten. Unless Tolle develops a solid 2nd pitch he will need to be in the BP. A FB alone doesn't play in MLB. 6} 1B is a huge question mark. Can Casas bounce back? Lowe was an ok band-aid pick-up but can he hit .280 or so in a full season? 7} I don't really see Henry spending the $$ to keep Bregman and I'm not sure he is worth what he will get. I can easily see Mayer being his replacement and save Henry even more $$. 8} We need another big bat likely RH given the splits we currently have and the Bregman question mark but I don't see Henry approving an expensive addition. Other than Tolle and Early {who I really like} there are no prospects ready to make a serious impact in 2026. This team really needs Mayer to stay healthy as I think he is real good player. I am not sure how the Sox can fix all these issues and maybe others I have missed. I would expect a few more prospects being dealt along with either Duran or Abreu to address some of these holes along with some more 1-2 yr FA signings. I know this seems negative but John Henry has given us little hope to expect anything else.
  13. Duran had only a so-so season all year which is hardly a small sample. He is close to 30 now and 2024 was probably his career season. Trade him now while he still has some value.
  14. your last sentence has been the order of the day for the last several offseason. i think this team is still a long way away from really contending for a WS.
  15. I have little faith that Henry will spend the Devers $$. Just bringing back Bregman doesn't do that IMO. I agree we need Bregman AND another big bat. That should be in the OF IMO. I am hoping Casas can bounce back.
  16. I agree we need to spend on SP. We could really use a #2 and move Bello to 3.
  17. Bregman didn't produce much from August 1st on. Just so-so in the series.
  18. who said we had a surplus of outfielders?? Abreu, Rafaela, and Duran combined to go 1/26 in the series. More than anything that is what killed us. I'd trade all 3 of them but numbers dictate we can't do that. I'd probably keep with Raefaela or Abreu depending what our splits are on offence. Time to trade Duran for sure.
  19. that is not happening. Mayer is just fine if he can stay healthy.
  20. you think Henry is going to buck up for both Bregman and Schwarber. Dream on. Think neither.
  21. The Sox may be on the right path but there are a number of moves they need to make this offseason if they truly want to compete for a WS. This year's team while much improved is a long way away from a WS title. Moves they need to make for 2026 in no particular order. 1} Add another #2 SP type and Bello will be fine as a #3.0 2} teach Tolle a good breaking pitch that has some separation from his 98 MPH FB. 3} Figure out who is going to be the everyday 2B 4} Improve the C depth 5} trade from the so-called OF depth we apparently have. Rafaela, Duran, and Abreu combined were 1/26 with 11k's. Simply brutal. at least 2 of those 3 need to bed traded.
