Agree 100%. Seems like this subject has beaten to death many times. I was never for the fire sale before the season ever started, or at the trade deadline when Bloom made his famous looking for that 3rd option at the fork in the road. Like I’ve said many times you don’t give up on a season when you are still mathematically still in it, and I think a majority of fans feel that way. If it doesn’t work it doesn’t work, and then you go from there to try, and fix things. I’m not going to worry if poor JH has to pay a little tax. He’ll just pass it on to the fans anyway.
I don’t think anyone would be keeping his seat warm, and would only be added if there is a big need. I wouldn’t keep Sale’s seat warm either, because you can’t count on him no matter how much the Red Sox owe him either. Let him pitch out of the BP.
Hill talked about coming back mid season for next year at the end of this past season, or not coming back at all, and I agree that Hill should be nothing planned on, but if the situation was to arise, and needed then then that could be looked into at that time. Just having Sale around is a injury waiting to happen.
If Bogey, Raffy, and JD are all gone lots of offense will have to be made up somewhere, and somehow. 2022 numbers were not as good as previous years, but still it will have to be made up.
Should be even more of spending money if Bogey, and, or Raffy leave, and that will be up to Bloom to replace the two with that money,or use it elsewhere.
It’s always on JH, but Bloom has to make do with whatever money he has to spend, and I’m sure he knew that going in. Theo got things wrong, and DD too, but they are no longer the Hobo in Boston anymore, and Bloom is.
Wouldn’t change a thing for me, because JH would get the credit. Now if Bogey, and Raffy aren’t resigned that will be on Henry too. If Raffy gets traded what they get back in return will be on Bloom, and who replaces Bogey, and Raffy if they both leave will be on Bloom too. Sounds pretty simple to me.
I don’t think Raffy has had his best years yet, and this was Judge’s best year, which most likely he won’t duplicate again, so I’m going with Raffy. Hopefully Raffy would stay in some sort of good shape.
It’s hard to say what Mookie would have done. I heard Mookie on a podcast with Rob Bradford a while back, and he pretty much said the same thing he did in the interview, but like you said we will never know, because the Red Sox didn’t counter.
