  1. Whitlock has nothing to offer when pitching with 2 outs, especially following a leadoff 0-2 that turned into a walk. BP will need serious upgrades if this team is to contend. They are losing to losers.
  2. Crochet was not sharp today but still effective. The shot off his nose may have given him second thoughts about going beyond 5 innings. The absence of follow up scoring by Boston always leaves the door open to a BP failure. Just not scoring much in latter parts of games.
  3. Narvaez will make Wong the answer to a trivia question. Who was the last surviving asset the Red Sox received in trade for HoF'er Mookie Betts. For bonus points who was the GM/CBO that made the deal ? Does he still teach poetry at Yale ?
  4. Defense with Hamilton at SS and Gonzo at 1B will stretch extra pitches out of Crochet. This team is looking more like 2024 each day
  5. I think there has always been some level of friction between Cora and the FO incumbents, especially Bloom . Cora may have "promised" Devers he would not have to take a new position and get off his perch sitting on the Gatorade cooler high on the bench. My personal opinion of Raffy as a player and teammate matters for nothing , but let's say, I don't need his autograph .
  6. And if you want to exceed .500 after 36 games, the team may want to win this one with Crochet instead of nursing a 1-0 lead after 6 , only to blow it by allowing a late HR .
  7. Once again , the starter, Dobbins who otherwise pitched well yet again, allows a 2 out , 2 run HR late in his start to give up runs , leading to a loss. Bereaved Bernardino allowed the inherited runner to score after Dobbins blew up with the HR , a single followed by a BB to Christian Vazquez. But contrary to some here, the lack of smart and timely hitting does cost them games. 12 hits for 3 runs may be a stat padder but when the game was on the line the top of the lineup could not score the #9 guy who did get a hit to lead off the last inning. The 0-12 losses when trailing after 6 is a telling stat. Duran and Devers were 5 for 10 with all 3 RBI's , but could not get the tying run home. No one will pitch to Bregman in that spot.
  8. Did Larry Cook just break the story on Marcelo Mayer on another thread here ? No, just dreaming BS
  9. So with Buehler out, Dobbins back for another plug & play start, and Casas looking at the potential end of his Red Sox career as a significant player, the roster shuffle can begin . Casas situation shows how one misstep can alter a lifetime ( to date) of work and talent . I'll venture that the Red Sox will move on at 1B , bypassing Triston, even while he eventually recovers from the injury . He will never get the big contract to secure his future. In fact, his future will more likely be holding the microphone than the bat. He will be around for a couple of more ST , then some team will take a chance on his repaired knee and maybe he can play again .
  10. Oh you Hamilton haters ! Shame, and Romy too. They are not great players but necessary pieces and contribute from time to time. Good for them.
  11. Giddy Up, Moon. Ride that horse as far as he can carry you !
  12. The difference between putting the ball in play and K'ing is notable. Way to go Raffy. The lefty vs lefty thing handicapping so many Sox LH hitters is BS. RH hitters face RH pitchers most frequently but don't seem to have insurmountable troubles.
  13. Sorry, I was referring to the recent 2 games in Toronto plus tonight. Bello has been dealing in his 3 starts where the team did win the first 2.
  14. First successful bunt I have seen Rafaela execute. His value is soaring
  15. From a reliever throwing high 90's who made a similar mistake pitch to a fatman the night before. I like to call A. Kirk a beer league softball catcher but Notin reminds me he is a good hitter. Someone should tell the Sox BP that fact.
  16. 3 straight quality starts , never trailing , but no wins yet !
  17. One other quick " eye test " observation while watching the Sox hitters flail vs Joe Ryan. Other than Bregman, not sure any of this lineup can hit a true MLB fastball.
  18. Looks like Casas provides the catalyst for notable change in the Sox plans for 2025. One, Triston may be done and of no further value . Two, someone other than Gonzalez needs to be the answer at 1B. Gonzalez can continue in his role as a bench multi-position player/PH/PR. Three, we get to see where the "Sit-by-myself" Rafael Devers, with the big contract , actually fits in as a premium player on this team. It should not be as a DH only. Fourth, Is a multi-move shuffle about to happen that brings Anthony to the Show ? Regrets that Triston may have a serious leg injury, but that occurrence has only made the inevitable moves happen.
  19. A series win this weekend is the only acceptable outcome after the butchery in Toronto. Slaten's comments about failing to execute with 2 strikes multiple times shows just how ignorant he is. Like some Sox pitchers who think 2 outs is an inning and 2 strikes , a K. WTFU.
  20. Wasted 11 innings of shutout pitching by Giolito and Houck, who both succumbed to HR's in their last inning, but neither gave up the lead. That was on Slaten twice.
  21. 2 examples of how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Hate to say it but Slaten's previous effectiveness was not visible in these losses. But .500 teams sooner or later find their water level. Failure to hit with men on base , except for Bregman is a defect here, along with the K's. 8 so far in 8 innings,
  22. Pure horsecrap, Slaten, and Abreu was no help either.
  23. One of my favorite themes--- 2 strike, 2 out pitching . Some can do it and some cannot. The loss of a 6 run lead after two outs in the 5th, no one on base points to the pitching, BUT after the 6th inning, the Sox hitters conjured up 1 single in the 7th-8th-9th and 10th to seal the deal. They k'ed 6 of those 12 outs.
  24. Shame to give up 3 runs with 2 outs in the 6th, but 2 out walks do come home . Overall a positive strat but maybe get someone ready like NOW
