  1. Defense, the ability to make plays and create outs not present here. The inability of a pitcher to field his position and make a reasonable throw to first base , and have that 1Bman make a tough catch cost the run . Campbell could have made a tough play but did not . Duran was not in great space to retrieve the ball off the wall, irregular angles and bounces. Just more stuff from an unpredictable and sloppy team.
  2. So Alex, there's a chance, maybe 1 in a 1000 but there's a chance. AC also confirms that this actually Devers choice . This continues to shine a light on Devers as a prima donna. Cora is a wimp . Alex is right that you don't throw Raffy out there overnight with no prep, but that is your fault for not making him prep towards the obvious move. My conclusion is that Devers is no team player , so fuk'em, and Cora is a hypocrite for his claim that players should be versatile and be able to adapt. These guys are trouble .
  3. Soon as I read STRETCH , I pictured Devers with hamstring problems . He has tight thighs .
  4. Sorry for you and family that the trip to Maine marks the end of an era for you. Death is a shame when it happens to others but a tragedy when it happens within your own family . Happy for you that you arrived timely. Always try to see people when they are still living, not after they are gone.
  5. There's a lot of amazing things about the Red Sox . At the current moment, however, none of those things are the players, manager, nor front office. Oh, longing for the days of a .500 team.
  6. Different pitchers tonight than those who cannot complete an out nor inning . Bernie and Newcomb had no pressure , so could just work on their grips and pitch shape. Struck out 7 between them. This is why I say Cora has to play BP roulette every night . He never knows what is in the box of chocolates
  7. Thanks to Chris Martin, the Sox were able to improve up to 12 K's , not quite half the outs in a game. Sox have met or exceeded double digit K's in 20 of 37 games . 1-5 in last 6 , averaging 3.7 RPG. Good thing it is still early and nobody else is winning bigly. You can almost sense in the first couple innings when this team just doesn't have anything working. This was after a day off . Story is as lost as he can be OPS'ing .398 in last 7 .
  8. Took 8 whole innings but wanted to note that the disinterested crew did reach double digit K's .
  9. I think they should have been preparing Devers to sub at 1B during ST . But maybe that would have been too much pressure for the sensitive guy, Casas.
  10. Millar gave several examples of players , even Harper , who made the adjustment and contributed further to their teams. I don't mind Cora making decisions, even when not agreeing, but at a minimum he should explain the reasoning . It seems clear there is some sort of problem going on among the FO, Cora, Devers, whoever, but as in the past, there are no clear cut direction for these guys. A coherent 1B alternate should have been on the table a week or two before Casas got hurt , just based on his performance.
  11. Look at the one constant over the last 3 years of sub to even .500 baseball, now again this year. It's Cora ( and Devers ) 2018 is receding far into the night mist .
  12. i always considered Eovaldi a gamer, especially after the 8 innings in L.A., despite the eventual loss of that 1 game . I'd rather have a gamer than some gamey meat slob throwing up center cuts
  13. Appropriate that it is a rainy night at Fenway. The Red Sox are showing all the attributes of a cold corpse . On the Express train to oblivion
  14. The real reason Cora apparently will not start working out Devers at 1B needs to be brought forward and discussed. There is something going on there that is hurting the team. One reason could be the fear of a wear down , again, in Dever's shoulders by playing every day . I'm thinking his Godzilla swings are more of a risk than stretching for one of Story's errant throws. Surely Devers would not just say, NO , if told to do so( not inclined to ask pretty please) . This isn't the NBA. Trusting that smarter heads will prevail in the FO and dugout, but just explain why a 28 year old, big contract guy cannot take the field and try a new position that he and the team need. I Based on Cora's thinking Devers is the new permanent Papi , although David played a few games at 1B. 8 more years of DH'ing ? Save me the BS
  15. Just some observations on the offense , which IMO is as responsible for losses as the BP throwers. The something like 0-13 comebacks when trailing after 6; the overall K rate at about 33% ; low RISP rates : carrying Casas ( before injury) and Rafaela, Wong/Narvaez/Sabol for 36 games ; Devers slow start, and Story's recent slump are not helping the cause. This team is not an offensive juggernaut . Absent Bregman , it would be seriously unproductive.
  16. The team will probably start hitting effectively again after the Rangers series, leaving the unfriendly confines of pitcher's park, Fenway
  17. Listening to Cora post-game, I think his calmness may give the players a false sense of evrything will be ok. Now calmness when all around you are losing their heads is an admirable trait to keep the situation from spiraling out of control. But guys like Whitlock and Slaten can either concentrate and bear down with 2 strikes , 2 outs or they are not capable of doing so. Same for the hitters. I'm sure things get said in the privacy of the office and Cora will not rip his guys publicly but he does have some soft donuts laying around the clubhouse.
  18. Brandon, you need a better intro take the next time Crochet pitches.
  19. Cora lets Hamilton bat and then PH Toro , with Duran finally unable to catch up to low fastballs and fooled on a low curve. SMH I could easily be wrong but I think this is the 3rd Crochet start that was blown by the BP , and the hitters eventually
  20. Let's see if Abreu's solo HR turns out to be a pointless stat padder after Slaten gave up the 2 hits after 2 outs to allow 2 RUNS
  21. F'ing pitchers who cannot get the 3rd out, although to Slaten's credit, Hamilton botched a catch to open the inning.
  22. Whitlock-Slaten , the dynamic duo of early May. .500 looking nearby and really comfortable
  23. Sure hope Story is enjoying his day off and likely not available for, oh say, 7th inning ++ defense. Cora does make mistakes .
  24. The FO/Cora likes him because supposedly Whit can go extended innings. Haven't seen much evidence of that ability. But, still coming back to the hitters batting in friendly Fenway who cannot score runs after the 6th. Regular team effort today to push the risks.
