  1. Giolito looks to be ready to get 6 innings +, with only 55 pitches through 4. Getting some good low corner calls from the HPU. Sox could enjoy a couple more runs to help the cushion .
  2. Gio's first contribution to the Red Sox after 500+ days is a shutout inning , but less than efficient with 23 pitches. The intended rotation appears to now be in action and ready to win some games
  3. It may only be April 30, but Bregman is paying dividends on that contract. Hope the Red Sox have found and can keep Alex for the full term.
  4. I think most would agree that a team needs 2 fair to good catchers to get through a season, so Cora will need to allocate enough games to Wong to see if he can find his way at the plate and even re-establish potential trade value. I would not lose sleep over who is #1 or #2 at the position. Perhaps that sorts out with preferential pitcher-catcher matchups. Injuries are common at catcher and the Sox lost the youth replacement movement when Teel was traded, among others, for a guy who only works 20% of the time, hah !
  5. A lost Star ? Sounds like a rogue planet without a sun drifting in the vast expanses of open space. Kind of like Yoshi's future barring some major change in Red Sox DH slot.
  6. Given the run Bobby Dalbec was given , I'm sure the Sox will let Casas have a good stretch of time ( June?) to see if he can get his bat going consistently and upgrade the D. But if Grissom/Romy continue, but Triston doesn't, they will start fitting him for a WooSox suit and get the extra option year back. Casas brings to mind the tolerance for so called slow starters as if early season results really don't matter. This is a fallacy . Every win matters , no offense to Shedeur Sanders
  7. And not totally incompetent with the bat at .626, better than Cedanne's .610 Wong may find himself spending time at !B vs LH'ers , however, Wong hadf a terrible start at bat OPS'ing .279 If Sabol wasn't so terribly bad both on offense ( .353) and D , Conor may have heard some footsteps chasing him. But no worries if it's Sabol only.
  8. Good wishing, Nick. My guess is that it will be a series of short starts 3-5 innings in May to se if he can get people out at all. Today will be interesting because the 5 short starts in AAA did not give a lot of encouragement, but it's EARLY . The 140 inning option trigger seems safe . 25 starts at 5 2/3rds = 141 innings. Gio isn't getting there.
  9. That is the way to back Crochet and start the series with a win.
  10. True, but the ball he launched earlier sevrtal decks up may have been a little high. The one Duran hit was up too.
  11. Darn, Sox batters--- nothing but solo HR's. Don't they know this game could be tied if Crochet issues 3 consecutive walks and an HR ? Let's go back to 3 run jacks.
  12. With Bregman's long fly into LF stands, 66.6% of Sox hitters have homered. Devers hit his pitch hard but at the SS.
  13. Duran leads off with a rocket HR on an 0-2 pitch. Good start
  14. So , you are saying the Jays have a chance ? The reality is that the Red Sox Ace , Mr. Crochet, a truly excellent pitcher ( 1.95 ERA) has a W-L record 2-2, , while the team is 2 over .500 after 30 games . Crochet has not received the support from the hitting/fielding side of the roster . The Small Sample Size in stat analyses should be over in a couple days when 20% of the season is used up. Sox need to take 2 of 3 vs Toronto, especially Crochet's effort tonight
  15. i would say the the Red Sox have done an admirable job of hiding Masataka so far this year.. He couldn't throw before his shoulder problem, so the fact that he still can't isn't remarkable. They are still paying him in any case and in a couple months will be halfway through the gross overpay contract. Yoshida can hit and will possibly be needed/wanted by an AL or NL team who needs some offense at DH for a playoff run. Sox will eat a bunch of money but they are doing that already.
  16. This is how a .500 team stays that way . Tough losses, blow a lead , fall behind early, one BP mistake, and a failed rally with your best hitters up with MoB.
  17. 4-7 in one run games. Too bad Storyland has been closed for the past few games, going about 0-17. Devers, Bregman and Story at bat with 2 on and 0, 1 &2 outs respectively. Story takes the knee as he strikes out. Nobody produced nada in the 9th
  18. One run loss , due to a HBP on a leadoff guy by Bernie, or a rousing win on a comefrom behind. Find out shortly
  19. AAAAAAnd there goes Devers as a potentially bigger factor in today's game(s) Hope it's a bruise only but even that could cost a week.
  20. Why do [pitcher's even bother to try and field their position. I know, I know, reaction to a hard hit ball coming at you, very natural. But catch the damn thing. Then tell Sabol to stay out of fair territory , so Bernie can field the bunt
  21. A few starts now reminiscent of '24 ( more trends) and earlier. Sox starters are not ready to go in the 1st inning, or the catcher, Sabol, cannot call a game from the get go, thinking the pitcher needs to edge into it. Do the advanced metrics offer any clue as to why Sabol is catching on a competitive team. Wong was not doing well but Sabol isn't helping either
  22. I think when the guys saw Crochet get beat early, they gave up and said , we can do that too.
