  1. 50% of White Sox wins this year * 18 games total) came at the expense of the now .500 Red Sox. This clearly calls for a 4 game sweep, Smee. 3-1 if you have to, but nothing less. It is amazing that the Red Sox went so deep into 2024 at the 3rd WC point , 5-8 games over .500 but totally flopped out from there. The defense and relief pitching completely fell apart. This year, relief looks much better with the positioning of Whitlock and Chapman showing ability, if not overuse. The infield defense remains a question mark. Hitting ??? Time to get it going, boys. This series should remind us of the Cardinals series.
  2. Not much luck or breaks on the hitting side either to help. Narvaez crushes one to the deepest CF and a great running catch robs him. It's 1-0 or whatever.
  3. Great pitching by Newcomb, Weissert and Whitlock to get 24 outs with no runs. No excuses, if the offense cannot get some insurance. Slaten will need to be lights out in 9th to win a series where the Sox score 1 run twice. Bregman had 4 rbi's by himself yesterday.
  4. Seeing Danny Jansen playing for Tampa Bay, reminds me how he was a trade deadline acquisition last year , in return for 3 really young prospects. The Sox were about 7 games over .500 at the deadline., and thinking they would be competitive. Over their final 60+- games they played to a negative 6 and went home. So i hope the 3 players given for Jansen were not part of a grand plan to rebuild the farm system
  5. Narvaez lives up to his rep as no hit. Sox really are duplicating 2024 in the sense of K's and leaving men on base. Recipe for an unlucky loss. But when you have a 1-0 lead, all you need is a shutout to win.
  6. I heard Skenes today say that they were trying to make the playoffs very much this year. Interviewer asked if Skenes could pitch every other day.
  7. Credit to Duran for running hard on a simple pop fly to right that......fell in for a double Not every player does that. But couldn't take the luck, and naturally Devers gets a hit behind him..
  8. I will gladly take 4 shutout innings by Sean Newcomb any day . The bats simply must get better , especially with Bregman nursing the baby.
  9. Right park, wrong inning & situation. Solo vs GS
  10. Hope we don't get back to the top of the lineup being no hit by Littell, a lesser skilled thrower. David H and Cedanne, it is up to you, buds
  11. 5 batters in Sox lineup with BA's below .225. I know it is OPS that counts but why insult them further ?
  12. Timing is everything, Alex. The guy gets red hot and Momma decides to drop one. Thanks, Mrs. Bregman
  13. Buehler was effective, thanks to defense, but inefficient. He is not a dominating pitcher. Wilson is scary but got away with it, using another 20 pitches. Who has 9 more outs to lock this one up ?
  14. Suddenly and without prewarning the defense also shows up to help Buehler. Can it really be--the expected Boston baseball team
  15. That HR by Duran was fun to see. As Merloni said he was popping up due to dropping his body via a long stride. That was clear in the first inning and recent games, plus a few rollovers. Jarren , more than some others, can change the game by being on base.
  16. A wonderful sight---a first inning run compliments of Devers and Bregman. If only Duran would stop popping up and get on base.
  17. Surely tonight's game will be the start of an amazing turnaround, back to the days of the Cardinal slaughter. These guys will break out and play well on both sides off the ball to complement good pitching. Let's get back to .500 over the next 2 and move back to Fenway.
  18. Never met a government worker, especially lifers, who could accomplish anything productive , sort of like utility infielders who become managers.
  19. Let's discuss their feelings in the future when they get fired, traded, or DFA'ed for lack of performance. Only problem is that some of them already have lifetime wealth and don't need to be motivated. The question is , over a growing sample size, why can't the best professionals in the world achieve a modicum of consistency which we know they are fully capable of doing ? The answer to that one will be interesting.
  20. No, they fell short of the 16 , K'ing only 14 times out of 27 outs, a bit over 50%. Challenging Colorado for the games played adjusted MLB lead every night. Fighting for what's right with Boston baseball. I think this scoring slump and K rate has reached crisis proportions . After all the White Sox are coming back to Boston this weekend to deliver the coup de grace.
  21. Keep in mind that although the Rays scored 16, the net differential was only 15 , thanks to Campbell's solo shot. So there's that.
  22. Recall that after 90 games last year , the Sox were about 8 games over .500 and in the WC slot. Over the next 72, the went -6 and blew the playoffs. This team is like marriage, for better or worse.
