  1. Sometimes i would rather see Rick Porcello on the mound than some of our other throwers. Today might be one of those, maybe. Maybe not. At least no HR's allowed through one, and Nunez delivered after JDM.
  2. Lots of credit to Mitch Barnes who looked very sharp in closing this win. Way to go Moreland and Barnes.
  3. Elias looking like the Elias Sports Bureau. No w e see if Barnes can use less than 25 pitches to close one. My least favorite Red Sox. I will gladly eat crow if he gets it done
  4. Now we finally get to see Cora's closer of the moment, Mr. Barnes.
  5. Always liked Mitch Moreland
  6. JBJr misses a couple, then a simple grounder, leading to Devers out at home Anyone rooting for this guy (JBJr) has a long wait
  7. Blake gets on base, HBP. !st and 3rd, no outs. Let's see if the Sox can score at least one ,much less 2 making this a real game.
  8. If we all recall, last year Cora stuck with Nunez in almost all situations over Holt . It must be a homeboy thing
  9. Thank you Brian Johnson , nice inning
  10. Nunez was actually thinking although it backfired. The key to the inning was JDM's taking strike 3 after missing two outside corner sliders, with a man on third
  11. Bases loaded for Nunez ??? What will happenNunez DP's. A total sack of s***, not even running to first just in case. Saving Pedroia back in Ft. Myers will cost them this game, who knows ? Also Styeve Pearces's calf injury is the indicator of the a larger than expected contract producing no returns as he can't play either
  12. You got two on, what will JDM do this time? He will take 3rd strike
  13. 3 HR's to score 4 runs. Too bad the OBP's aren't in place yet
  14. Good memory. Tom Brewer , in addition to being a starting pitcher, was a frequent pinch runner for the Sox
  15. Yeah, you are right but as so many said ST doesn't count and the "regulars " would turn it on against a team that will not finish at .500. The Red Sox sucked in ST and were/are in a team wide slump going back a week or ten days. It will take a few more games to come alive. Cold , wet Oakland isn't the place to turn it around.
  16. It does appear that Cora did soft pedal the workload for all in ST, probably due to the long run through the WS last year. And the fact that it is a marathon, not a sprint. With Sale's pitch count , we will get to see some of the bullpen questions start getting addressed tonight. Like a few others here, I think this 11 game road trip will result in a slow start with a 5-6 or 6-5 record. Not a disaster nor an omen of things to come but just a sense they are still getting up to baseball speed. LOB means Left On Base. Then Encarnacion puts another silver bullet in his bat. Hated that guy for years
  17. At 53 pitches and trailing 3-2 , will CS get through 4 innings ? Is Sandy leon's phone ringing yet. It's still early , the Red Sox hitters will pull this one out.
  18. Nothing changes, Sale K's them all and Devers has a .000 fielding average.
  19. Apology accepted, check via an administrator if needed. Let's just enjoy another winning season with the Sox. Done deal.
  20. And you would be completely wrong , as well as an irritating individual, but then you live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Call me if you want confirmation on the Stork thing.
  21. Hembree in rare form vs the Cubs--hits the first guy, walks the second, walks the third batter , followed by a quick hook from Levange. The first 11 road games will be a small sample but we'll see how well some of these throwers come around when the results count. Don't hold your breath when a few come in unless you enjoy oxygen deprivation. Workman relives Hembree, gets a swinging K. Maybe a DP saves the inning----Brandon gets the groundball but it eludes a diving (late??) effort by Nunez at SS, rolls through for a 2 run single. Good thing it is still ST. Followed by another groundball single burying the Sox in their last ST game of 2019. But Swihart homered !
  22. Meanwhile on the playing field today, Swihart threw out Ben Zobrist trying to steal 2B and in a later inning 3B. Has anyone seen a quote or other comment attributed to Leon or any of the pitchers since the move on Leon ? Based on the available information , it looks like there is a good chance Sandy Leon would clear waivers and could then accept the minor league assignment to preserve his guaranteed money , as Alan Craig did a couple years back. Since the Red Sox are on the hook for his salary anyway, this may work out to the club's advantage by having Leon in the system but not taking a 40 man roster spot. And available in case of injury or failure to perform by the other two guys. It would seem that the same circumstances would have applied to Swihart , except the money owed was less.
  23. With all the discussion centered between Leon and Swihart, CV snuck through ST with the most AB's of these three and displayed the worst results by far of the three, hitting .133 with almost 28% K's. Despite Blake's good hitting this Spring, he will not get a lot of time behind the plate or at bat so the question as to where his upside could be is not likely to be determined soon.
  24. "P.S. Ignore at your own peril. " Great article in the WSJ about the total failure of the Orioles, under Dan Duquette and Showalter, to develop any analytic abilities until GM Mike Elias took over last year . He is now trying to build an data base and systems via Sig Mejdal as his ass't GM. The O's also had no int'l scouting capacity. The aging Peter Angelos, 90, finally turned things over to his sons, who brought Elias , who now will try to mimic his success with the Astros developing their high level model of analytics. Of course, Showalter had to go and current manager, Brandon Hyde , formerly with Theo's Cubs, believes in using the available data.
  25. Just a guess towards the future but something tells me that Sale is more the team player than Betts will be.
