  1. Just hope Price gets the same expanded strike zone that K'ed Pearce .
  2. Could Realmuto be pried out of Miami this winter ? Probably would take one of our catchers plus 2 prospects
  3. Been noticing the BP in general and Kimbrel in particular over the last month or more , mostly through pitch counts needed to get the required outs. It's not a primary metric, but it does indicate the efficiency of the guy throwing, his command/control, and his ability to come back the next day . If a starter consistently goes above 20 pitches per inning, he's likely to only get 4+ innings completed. A reliever doing the same is not likely to be available the next game. I see our guys getting 2 strikes on a hitter, followed by a flurry of foul balls followed by walks . I don't think most of our guys have a reliable out pitch to close the at bat, like Koji's splitter was. Kimbrel's high heater is usually too high above the zone to achieve its purpose. It's been said by others that our BP guys all throw the same stuff (95+ FB/ knuckle curve) Where is the vicious slider that routinely reduces our own hitters to swing and miss for strike 3.
  4. No real issue with Betts and Benintendi leading the way as usual, but it does remind of the old sea captain announcing to the crew that the floggings will continue until morale improves. In Mookie and Beni's case, the batting will continue until the results improve. Maybe a breakout game tonight.
  5. It is very hard to figure how Beni is hitting .282/.763 since the A-S break, and yet only generate 1 HR in 131 AB's. His 18 rbi's are generally consistent with other Sox hitters , except for JDM who has 30. JDM has finally passed the slumping Betts in BA to be the Red Sox triple crown leader right now.
  6. If that's the Ted Hendrick's guy, no. But probably 3 or 4 others are mine so I can get a consensus opinion, lol
  7. Brian Johnson, with limited skills at the MLB level, gets 13 outs on 73 pitches, with 1 run allowed, 5 hits and 1 walk. Barnes , Hembree, and Kimbrel combine to get 6 outs on 64 pitches, with 7 hits , 6 runs ( 2HRs) and 3 walks. Now who gets the win ?? Kimbrel who is now 4-1, the super saver of all time. Not crying for Johnson, who Cora routinely pulls before he qualifies for a win, but to point out how much more valuable Brian Johnson is to winning than the three stooges in the bullpen.
  8. All Matt Barnes fans go kiss my grits. Goes for Hembree and now Kimbrel too. The decline of all 3 was apparent about a month ago, stats be damned because they did dodge some bullets. Now it is more than apparent that they have real deficiencies for a pennant winning team. But like Darrell Royal said, "dance with the one what brung ya".
  9. Swihart only throws it back to the reliever when it doesn't exit the park or roll to the backstop on a wild pitch. He doesn't walk them, he doesn't pitch it towards home plate with no clue as to where it is going. If Blake's catching is the problem with this BP, then make your plans for October now. There's good beer gardens in Munich with open seating.
  10. Missed 99% of the game until the bottom of 9, but see that we pounded the Marlins into submission. Oh yeah, seems to be some problem with the horse manure pitching out of the BP. Don't know what it is since their stats are so unbelievably good. Must be another flaw in WAR computations that my ass Barnes and Kimbrel suck as much as they do. And when sandwiched around Hembree it's almost like Carson Smith and Joe Kelly in Tampa in game #1. The win is much appreciated JDM, Bogie, Nunez and others for saving the bacon..
  11. It may be time to consider that Sale's shoulder bursitis is on its way to becoming chronic, and not curable in the permanent sense, as with arthritis. The test will be to see if it is debilitating to the point he cannot pitch or can do so once a month. We have him through next year but if his labrum/bursa becomes chronic, it will be a great loss to the Sale family if he can't cash in on a 5 year $150 miilion deal, after 2019 season. For our sake and the team's, I hope his condition is not chronic , but chances are that it is already. previous season Sept/Oct fades may not have just been tiring out, but cumulative wear and tear from his hard, whiplike motion. Just give us a big postseason this year , Chris.
  12. Small Sample Alert : Over the past 6 contests the group of Betts, Beni, Pearce and Leon have BA's ranging from .200 to .091, with OPS's from .604 to .348. I agree that Mookie and Andy will get over it. Pearce and Leon are of more concern. We will need Pearce as a credible PH'er/sub for Moreland. Leon is likely just worn out. Vazquez's return should help distribute the load, with Swihart looking for opportunities to stay active.
  13. With some experience over the years with pro athletes across various sports, your comment definitely applies to some of them. Inherently huge egos and entitlement developed over formative years of being applauded for athletic skills will warp these susceptible ones . Until the coming of college baseball players into the upper levels of the sport, there was no more ignorant a group of people than baseball players who barely finished high school.
  14. I have always prefeered Porcelain. Beautiful to look at, but you drop it, you bought it . Solid, but brittle and susceptible to breakage.
  15. In the sim game, he shut them out but walked 2 in the 9th before picking Beni offf first
  16. That's one thing about living in the U.S,, things go better with a little skill in the English language . It doesn't even have to be your first language , just have enough to communicate and learn something about where you are. Always surprised when foreign born players seem to have virtually no English abilities.
  17. I'm with you , f***'em. I don't see any paychecks hitting the mailbox with a Fenway return address.
  18. What is disturbing in any case is the team's lack of competitive response in all phases of the game. It may be the dog days of August but Cora needs to find the stimulus to get the players/pitchers refocused. I was thinking a couple weeks ago that the 9-10 game lead could result in a letdown as they cruised through late August. So is it a letdown or a breakdown. Thank the scheduler for bringing on the Jeter Marlins for 2.
  19. After the Marlin sweep, I think we will learn if Chris Sale can or cannot pitch with a tolerable level of discomfort in his shoulder. If you don't see Chris back by end of this week, you can rest assured thereis a bigger problem than what we are being told. The skid needs to be stopped on both sides , pitching and hitting. The Rays series needs to be remembered as the low point of this season. The guys need to go pound the Marlins big time.
  20. With Vazquez and Erod being prepped for a Sept 1 call back , where the heck is 21 year old Rafael Devers ?? I'm personally not missing him but if anyone should be healing quickly, it's this kid. Although he can't hit very consistently yet, he does alter the lineup sequence and gives pitchers something different to think about. His contribution to his first full season is weak, both on offense and defense.
  21. A Pedroia return sometime in September may be a feel good situation and Pedey may deserve all due consideration but it would take a real stretch to imagine him in any playoff roster situation. If the last 3 games with NY in Fenway turn out to be meaningless (and they should), then let Pedroia get on the field and rest someone else for the playoff run.
  22. Cannot fathom sitting JD Martinez in a game, which far from an ideal setup and not critical, is just an invitation for NY to get close enough to read our license plate. The DH spot doesn't need too much rest. Mookie needs to reward Cora with a max effort . Kinsler & Pearce need to reward DD for getting them on a pennant winner . Neither has done much lately. Eovaldi needs to redeem the trade for Beeks . If he can't , then DD got screwed on another pitching trade/pickup.
  23. I think the prolonged absence of Chris Sale , 3 starts, 17 innings since the A-S game is catching up to them. Due to scoring, Kimbrel has only pitched one inning in last 8 games. Betts's slump is stopping JDM's rbi opportunities. Beni is a mystery as to how he keeps his average up near .300. Pearce is not hiting with the opportunities he gets. Moreland is more sore kneed now than 3 days ago. Playing the red hot Rays in the Trop doesn't help. Porcello loses two in a row, etc.etc. It's late August and the digs of WAR are out there.
  24. If Benintendi can be fixed, then I wish Cora or his coaches would do it. The rear shoulder dip and bat below the ball as it crosses home are so obvious that it is painful.
  25. Betts-Beni (3K's) and Pearce , a combined 0-11. That's setting the table for JD's doubles
