  1. A sweep on the road is a big win for this team. Jordan Hicks using 23 pitches ( throws) to close it out. Not impressive.
  2. At the time, he couldn't hit , only chase . Someone got to him and he changed his approach significantly, leading to his current success which is most welcome. H
  3. Thank you , Cedanne. Living proof that a hitter can learn some patience and get better.
  4. He is on the 60 day list, earliest is July 28, if the shoulder inflammation subsides.
  5. Should have been an easier win, and still 6 outs from over . After the 4-0 first inning, another blowout was on the table but ..... It feels like a struggle to put this one away, even with Chapman in the 8th
  6. The march of the relief W's: Whitlock, Wilson and Weissert combine about 40 pitches to get 6 outs. Crochet uncharacteristically left the door open today for the BP to have to hold and win the game. Sox should add a few runs here to survive until Chapman can come in.
  7. With Bregman and Yoshida likely to go back on 26 by or just after the A-S break, who goes back to WooSox ? Eaton is an easy choice , but who else ? David Hamilton is a possibility .
  8. You always think they can another out or two., right, Grady? Weissert better have something today. This is actually the role Whitlock should be in for a 2 inning/6 out job.
  9. Buehler gets his 5 full and in line for the win. He pitches much better, more consistent from the full windup, instead of the stretch. He should be out to open the 6th after 89 pitches through 5. Get the quality start, walker without walking anyone
  10. Can Buehler make it through the 5th. Relatively high pitch count, lots of runners. This looks like one of those times AC pulls the pitcher with 2 outs in 5th.
  11. Holy Batters, batboy ! Sox hitters making Parker look like the kind of rehab mound projects that the Sox have specialized in during the sub .500 era. Buehler should easily be in line for the win today. I think his mechanics and delivery are inconsistent leading to some of his prior issues. Washington showing us what sloppy fielding can lead to . A lot of 2 out damage.
  12. How about this fact. The BlueJays, TB Rays and Yankees are in a 1 game separation atop the AL East while we are 1 under .500, after the Nats first game blowout. Sox are 5 games back. Whether it's roster construction, FO actions, manager, batting or pitching over the past 3 seasons, this is not a good result. Toronto and Tampa Bay are ahead of us with limited resources and no truly great players. Kevin Cash may be the best manager around and credit to his staff for making winners out of the Rays. Notably the Rays starting 5 pitchers have had no injuries this year . Someone besides Bloom should , by now, figure out how the Rays do it year after year. The Red Sox do not know how to win consistently . That is someone's issue to figure out asap.
  13. Just a late thought watching Whitlock in the 9th. He had not pitched since last Sunday, and was throwing soft stuff on most pitches, and they were getting hit fairly hard. He did throw one pitch at 98, so he can cut loose. Whitlock is a fairly average pitcher who has been thought to be a long reliever due to his starting experience. Sort of hard to see that now. I think he is a one inning middle reliever who may have a physical issue limiting his game.
  14. It does seem that the starting pitching , overall, is getting better and deeper into games. The hitting is improving with several large run outbursts recently. The rookies are participating with contributions. One wants to think these guys could could be even better with Bregman back, and players in fixed positions for awhile. OTOH, it would take 2 series wins ( 2-1 each) just to settle once again at .500 . Really need to pound the subpar Nats and Rockies before facing TB for 4 prior to the A-S break.
  15. Great to see the Sox hitters super supporting a strong start by Giolito, who has seemed to find himself after a season and a half
  16. Hamilton is truly awful in the field. Giolito is right for calling him out after that botched 3rd out grounder .. When Bregman does come back in very soon, David should be on the chopping block, despite his speed on the bases.
  17. And that is how you are 2 under .500 on July 2. IN THE BRIGHT LIGHTS , THEY ARE PLAYING WITH A BENCH/ROOKIE/4AAA LINEUP MOST NIGHTS.
  18. Said nothing about Cora. It was in synch with your comment about Gonzalez admiring his flyball to LF. Eat something disagreeable ???
  19. The Keystone Kops action in the 8th is why this team is so frustrating . Story boots a ball that could have been an out at home , then the circus starts.
  20. Players who are essentially out of position do not turn DPs rapidly
  21. Why would Gonzalez try for 3 on a ball in front of him to LF ? That is as much an error as a botched ground ball.
  22. An error by your most recent 1Bman, now playing 3B, followed by a walk , followed by a GrandSlam. Weissert turns a 3-0 lead into a 4-3 deficit, throwing 20 pitches before recording an out. A BP game is a crapshoot and someone just shot the sheriff
  23. Maybe we can make a deal for Loperfido ?
