  1. It is very encouraging to see JDM go on a tear. There may have been some reason to wonder if his days as a premier hitter may be diminishing, but this short streak shows the talent is still there and he can apply it
  2. Yeah there's that, but can he hit with men on base ?
  3. What's worse than Brice's actual non-performance is the impression that he has no clue where the ball is going
  4. Hernandez is a classic thrower, not a pitcher. Not much clue where it is going. Walking a LH hitter shows he can't find the plate with a searchteam
  5. I think Devers just put GR in position for a potential W
  6. 6 of 9 guys in the lineup tonight hitting below .240 in their small samples
  7. 5 innings and kept the game tied despite a wandering nomad effort. Makes it very winnable game with a few key hits, walks and errors by the O's
  8. Welcome to the deadball era
  9. So how long do they give Dalbec to find his groove, probably need to see some real improvement by end of April
  10. Richards trying hard to give it up w/ 2outs. Looks very tired in his motion, but gets out of the 4th. Hope no 5th
  11. Why did JBJr and Boras think Jackie would be getting good offers on multi-year contracts at the $10MM AAV range? Especially in a pre CBA year with all kinds of other revenue (fans in the stands) unknowns ? This was a bad time to reach FA. Despite adding another year's age, JBJr may be best served with a one year + player option deal , and try again in 2022.
  12. Does no one think that at some point in the negotiation discussions Betts told Bloom or JH that despite anything you offer I am walking ? He would never say this publicly and alienate the RS fan base, but it wouldn't be a big surprise to me that he informed them that he wasn't going to extend in Boston. Whether he had the Dodgers in mind as a landing spot is open for speculation . I think the Red Sox got what they could for a guy who was moving on no matter what. If you knew Mookie personally and asked him, would he have signed an extension with Boston for $350MM or even 4400MM, it would be useful to know his true answer.
  13. My annual question : Why does the equipment, especially baseballs, bats, seeds and gum need to be trucked from Fenway to Jet Blue when they could have been shipped there in the first place instead of all the transshipping from manufacturers to Boston to Ft. Myers. This team is more interested i n some mid-winter PR than in John Kerry's assessment of their carbon footprint. Guess it's just the way it is done
  14. And if you want to lose the rest of your lunch, just have the Sox open discussions with Brett Gardner . Never in a thousand years would I want to see him in Red Sox jersey, better he goes to New Jersey as a Newark bus driver.
  15. If expansion was on the table, these could be the las Vegas Craps or the San Antonio Tamales
  16. I nominate Joel Payamps or Hudson Potts, or maybe both and go shopping from the 142 man unsigned list.
  17. The highlight replay videos running on several platforms will get you excited for Red Sox baseball even in the Covid era and now without Pedroia to bring the action. Pretty decent 2Bman and hitter as well.
  18. It would be interesting to create a new 40 man roster from the names on that list and see where it falls vs the Lux tax line level . Also what the WAR ratings would be vs the existing Red Sox 40 man roster. Sort of a fantasy exercise because you would have to ignore the contracts in place, except for their cumulative value against the tax limits.
  19. MLBPA basically told MLB to go and sit in the corner rather than make any modifications or accomodations on changes. Who do they think they are the teacher's union ?
  20. As previously suggested, the 2021 season parameters are far from settled . MLBPA and ownerships are both floating new proposals including a 154 game season, deferred ST and season start, travel restrictions on Blue Jay games in Canada, DH in NL, expanded playoffs, etc. There will be some serious waltzing around as the Covid vax programs gain minor momentum and Manfred looks for some cover. I know MLBPA has previously rejected some ideas like the NL DH. That is a strange one since they use the DH in AL city games and it creates jobs for some guys who can no longer play full games, usually highly paid mature hitters. In the near 50 years of usage in the AL, I think it has been a great enhancement to the game . Ortiz would never have survived a couple of season back in the early 2000's without it, but now he is a likely HoF'er ( maybe 5 ballots in)
  21. Speculative thought but I believe Pedroia got bad medical advice on knee treatments, apart from the Red Sox medical staff, and then compounded the damage by overly aggressive rehab, perhasps too early in his recovery. The likelihood of a catastrophic total wrecking of his knee joint in the Machado play is less likely as a sole cause. Too many NFL'ers recover within months from ACL's, MCL's, Achilles tears, etc. to think that Pedroia was ruined by the slide itself. If so, it should have been evident immediately and recovery not attempted. He received bad advice and then messed up the recovery himself. Too much of a gamer to let it heal slowly.
  22. Need to clear another roster spot ? Pedey actually going to retire with a generous role in the organization?
  23. Painful as it is, the 2021 season duration, fan attendance, CBA chnages in negotiation along with lux tax reset make this off season the wrong time to react spasmodically to trying to fix this team overnight . Play out 2021, get better results from guys on the roster already (JDM, RD) and get Sale fully back in 2022. It's not that hard to see Bloom and his ownership's pattern here.
  24. Watched Garrett Richards pitch enough for the Angels (2011-2018) to know that this signing, while filling an opening, is a flip-a-coin on whether he will be significantly helpful or mediocre watching fast balls fly over the Monster.
  25. Not too many human considerations in professional sports
