  1. Excellent writeup in SoCal today about the Padre's current theory being seen in practice. Essentially, you can't have enough good players , they will make the team better whether to fill an opening or being on the bench in reserve. Kim probably has a year or so of development/adjustment into a full blown MLB player. It could be argued that the Padres are emptying their minor league system with more of the win now approach, maybe sensing that the Dodgers will have a hangover year with older players.
  2. A small part of the FO thinking on 2021 is likely including the premise that it will be a short (100-120+- games) , starting in May . This gives the RS a chance to get Chris Sale back into the rotation before it is a totally lost season. The flip side is that there will be no certainty that Erod's heart infection will result in no dimunition of endurance or energy, and that no one else among pitchers gets sick going into ST whenever that does occur. Overall though, history tells us that you need to start the year with 6 to7 available starters between the MLB team and the AAA affiliate to be able to complete a full season.
  3. Is that an invite for DD to take Cashman's place with a star laden bunch of underachievers?
  4. Watching the highly rtouted NYY'ers fail to dominate this season and flop in the playoffs , then watching the Rays-Astros/Dodgers-Braves struggle against each other, it only becomes more clear how incredible it has been that the RedSox made it to the WS 4 times from 2004-2018, and topped it off by winning the Series each of those times. Sometimes we need perspective and in 21st century baseball, the Red Sox have already achieved a monumental feat compared to any other team.
  5. The seasons over, Roenicke's over. let the off season games begin.
  6. Or offer Pablo Sandoval about $60 million for 3 years and try agai n with the Weightwatchers program. Why would the Braves bother humoring that phat phuque?
  7. Glad to see JBJr put together a good season, no matter how short. Certainly posted his best shot at drawing FA interest. Just not sure if he'll draw the interest he may feel is due. 2021 is still not any guarantee as a normal 162 game season. Good luck to him, and it would not be a shock to see him in Boston on a 2 year deal.
  8. Chavis, Lin and Arauz ---a fearsome top of the 6th batters to put fear in Shane Greene
  9. That's not a bad combo for a high draft pick. Wasn't Cora manager in 2019 ?
  10. Does Bloom owe Roenicke a quick decision on being retained or let go, in return for taking on this crapshoot of a season ? I am wagering that by Tuesday PM, RR is in or out for 2021. 65-35 says out, mostly because some real energy will be needed to get this bunch refocused next Spring. They just sleepwalked through 2 seasons
  11. It would be a real plus and encouraging for Houck to pitch a quality start and then proceed to ST in February with confidence. Agree with some that the Sox may not want him to start in Boston next year, still very light on overall experience but his pitches move and as Maddux said, that is a key in pitching.
  12. Definitely need the FA, and someone to fill Sale's slot until he shows he can come back. Oh yeah, EROD is a ???? too. perez really stinking it up tonight.
  13. Perez gets help frrom Chavis to cut off another run. Perez uses 51 pitches to get 6 outs. Don't mistake him for anything more than what he is. A filler in a weak rotation. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over whetehr he gets re-signed or not.
  14. Is Devers a pouting head case or just a porky kid ?
  15. Vaz cleans up with a 3 runner, making the bullpens butts loosen up a bit. Maybe they can hold a 5 run lead
  16. Pivetta and Houck could be some of the answer to developing a rotation for 2021. Long time from now to next April but at least there's hope that some in-house talent will emerge. Then we need Erod back and in full health
  17. Chavis is too short to play in front of a 38' wall. Balls go over his short arm reach Now we have 2 samples of poor LF play by the short guy. Is that too small a sample? Or is it Walden's fault for giving up big hits?
  18. Can Walden pitch an inning without at least one hit and 2 walks ? Apparently not, giving up the leadoff HR
  19. JBJr putting on the contract year rush here in the second half of the short season. Still think he'll have trouble getting a substantial deal
  20. Good observation. JDM certainly could have made a difference last night, and several others. He could easily hit below .200 with more 0-6's. Swings like an old man with a bad back.
  21. Only if the Sox goal is to win 20 games in a 162 game season. Barnes is a plague and needs to go
  22. Splendid, I have to go out about now and social proximate, so good luck getting Perez through the 6-7-8-9 . Enjoyed joking with you.
  23. Absolutely---Infield and Outfield
  24. So you are saying we can't catch the O's ??
  25. As opposed to arm injuries which can also happen, unless it's an oblique or shoulder situation
