    Looks like Yaarbrough was what was needed to break the RISP drought. Great inning EARLY. Now to get another 21 outs without a blowup from the BP after Sale sits. Houck must be wondering what he needs to do to get Sale's support.

    I think this loss is one of the hardest to accept because it breaks the momentum of winning while the primary opponents lose, and we continue with the same problems seen all year. Falling behind quickly, become dependent on a perfect bullpen, leave RISP innings 1-5 before making a move. Poor defense, not just errors but misplays or lack of athleticism to make plays currently just out of reach. Also playing guys like Arauz and Motter while Jose Iglesias became available.

    Keep in mind it is Labor Day tomorrow and the Red Sox still have not won enough games to insure a .500 season . Maybe we get that done before the play-in WC game

    To continue the prediction of a 20W-20L final 40 games of 2021 , after 19 of those games including the 9th inning Cleveland blowout of Valdez , the record is 10-9 going into the 3 game TBR series. I'll stick with my 20-20 call. It is hitting as much as pitching.

    If you are forced to play bullpen roulette , day after day, because your starters can't get 6 innings or you are forced to pitch AAA developmental guys then once in while there will be the bullet in the chamber and rip your head open.

    Here's the essence of the problem, go down 6-0 to an inferior team , wait until the 5th inning to wake up, leave several men in RISP land , require your relievers to be perfect for 4-5 innings. A tough way to play the game. Especially with a golden opportunity to get right up the Yankees tailpipe .. Schawarber was the actual guy who needed the day off today. Looked tired.

    Do you think when Cora PH'ed Devers for Lopez that Rafi might have stayed in the game so he could get 1 or 2 more shots in a game that within reach when Devers did hit ? I understand the day off with 3 game series vs TBR coming up, but you need to win the only one you are currently playing, especially with the Covid potential circulating.
