  1. Verdugo is a good and necessary piece on a strong team where he doesn't need to carry 5 other guys for a month.
  2. Is Bloom's DFA list as long as Michael Corleone's?
  3. Have to respect Casas up with the bases full to not just chase bad pitches and take the walk/rbi . Some guys could learn from the rookie.
  4. So who closes out the 9th of the last game of the season? Do we have a closer ? Maybe next Spring
  5. Pivetta with 70 pitches through one out in the 3rd , gives up a 2 run shot to Choi. Fat LH hitters are often Boston's nemeses. In most parks it was a flyball to left
  6. JDM whacks a 3 run HR above the bullpen. JD must prefer cool weather to the hot summer as his FA audition gets a boost.
  7. Looks like AC is going all in today to sweep the Rays . How is the weather today ?
  8. He may well be next year , but needs to stay a little more even keel, at a high performing level over the 6 month season.
  9. If somehow the Sox do work out a better deal for Bogaerts, my only question will be if Trevor Story can keep up with X over the next several years.
  10. 2nd/3rd, nobody out once again . Pham K's for the 3rd straight time ; Devers works a walk to set up Bogaerts; Xander sets the ball on fire with a GSlam. Best player on this particular team.
  11. Like to see Nate get out with a win, as the Sox continue to poke Rays in the nose with jabs. Knockout punches were lost in July/August. In seriousness, the difference between the Rays win total , and inclusion in playoffs, and the Sox wins are 10, pending these final 2. Can you think of 10 games this year that were late losses?
  12. Red Sox poking the Rays in the eye late. Barnes makes it stand up , with his usual risky business. As Moon says, he may be productive once again . For sure he will be out there with his final contract year, so look for him in a yearbook on sale.
  13. Rafael Devers swinging the bat well and delivering the sac fly on his 4th AB. JDM gets a hard ground ball single to blunt his 3K's
  14. Arroyo and Kike are the drought busters equaling the total offensive output of the prior 32 innings. Good for you guys to try and pull this game out. Saves Rich hill from taking a loss and throws the shot at the W to the BP guys.
  15. Red Sox aren't quitting on purpose but you could say that they have scored 3 runs in 2 innings ( a 2 spot and a singleton) out of the last 32 innings of play (93 freaking outs). And all 3 rbis are by Mr. Dalbec
  16. Some things just do not change. Fall behind in the first on a Wandering HR, then get 2 on , no outs in bottom 1, and fail to score , starting with JDM K'ing. Story of a season lost. Speaking of Story, think he'll be ready for ST ?? He and Sale should rent a condo together and see who falls off the balcony first . I would recommend a ground floor unit.
  17. Just glad that Hosmer can play a few games. What is the chance of him taking his opt out? About .001% . Maybe' Eric is the cheap answer at DH in some sort of a platoon. 1B for a LH hitter may be taken by Casas already.
  18. J.A.N.L. --- Just another nothing loss. Put up little to no resistance to a playoff level team over a 3 game spread.
  19. So glad JDM has figured out how to hit again now that it doesn't matter .
  20. Another clown show from your favorite comedians. Can someone throw a pitch that Teoscar cannot hit ?
  21. Incredible that Dalbec is the guy to get a 2 out hit, scoring 2 runs. This after Chang flails away at a 3-2 count, where the pitch that should have resulted in a walk, never came close to the strike zone. Abraham Almonte has become interesting as a 33 year old journeyman who leads the Sox in BA and OPS, but with a very small sample size. Refsnyder, Pham, Almonte show the depth of the 4th OF'er on this team.
  22. Wacky Wacha and his riotous Red Sox will engage Kevin Gausman in a game of baseball in Canada. One of the objects of the game of baseball is to score points, called runs, a concept not terribly familiar to Boston since crossing the border. With nothing at stake will our fearless 9+1 take the reins and pound the birdbrain Blue Jays into submission ? Don't bet on it.
  23. Down 10-0 in top 9, I have no concerns that the Sox will damage the Boston-Toronto run differential this season. It is an all-time club record that should stand as long as TSW's .406
  24. Back to the basic formula , the 4 F's : 1. Fall behind early ; 2. Fail to hit for 5 or 6 innings; 3. Forget to throw strikes; 4. Failure of the bullpen guys to hold the deficit close. All 4 pathways will result in a failure to win.
  25. 23-48 (.323) in the AL East, Pivetta's contribution to that is 1-8, .877 OPS against. Nick, get a hold of yourself, the same guys will be back next April. Work on something, anything.
