  1. Sasaki has specifically said that he would consider a small market team,
  2. Edit Contreras is 32, so two of those guys are ONE year younger than him
  3. Ok so they think they're not in contention because they're trading for young players and not old players? But.....they're pretty much signing all older players? Chapman/Wilson/Buehler??? FTR I don't really want them to trade for Contreras but I don't buy that they don't think they're in a contention window because they won't trade for a guy in their 30's when they're signing players older than Wilson, and the other guys they're connected too are all in their 30's as well. Bregman 31 Arenado 34 A.J. Minter 31
  4. Ok, but isn't that still a move you make when you want to contend? trading away 3 very good prospects for a pitcher you're going to shell out $$$ for? They may not be there yet, but I think the Sox think their contention window is going to start next year.
  5. Big reason why they Cardinals want to move Contreras to 1B is because they have two young catchers in Ivan Herrera and Pedro Pages
  6. If that's the case, then why trade two of your top prospects for only two years of control of a pitcher?
  7. A.J. Minter was one of the arms I listed as signing the Sox should make this offseason back in the beginning of this offseason. He's sneakily been very good and would certainly make this bullpen better.
  8. I doubt that's it, I'm sure their penny pinching has hurt them in other areas but this isn't about the money. If anything, the way they've treated Yoshida probably had more of an impact if any.
  9. Not you specifically. I think we can all assume that MVP is not John Henry.
  10. I'm not the one signing Bregman or Arenado but shiiiiiit they've been linked to Boston all darn offseason. I will say this. I'm not trading Casas just because I don't have the balls to DFA Yoshida or trade him eating all the salary. You're paying all his damn salary anyways. On this team or off of it.
  11. Or just sign Bregman and DH Devers. that lineup and infield defense is better
  12. I'm not against trading anyone for the right price, but we've seen the market for 1B. It's s***, so I don't think we are going to get anything great for Casas. Casas value is in his potential to be a middle of the order bat, which he needs to stay healthy to be able to reach. His value is probably higher to Boston than anywhere else. I don't think we are getting any real good prospects for Casas. I would love to be wrong, but I think we would all be very disappointed with the return he would bring. I'd rather bank on him coming back and mashing the baseball.
  13. It's literally only been two years since he's gone over the line. They've stayed under during years they suck.
  14. Bregman + Scott might add $45 million would put the payroll at about $259.00 below the second threshold and even if they went over it so what? lets say those two contracts put them at $265. The cost of doing that is 480,000 that's it. Not even the league min on a player. Certainly better than trading for a guy on serious decline in his mid 30's and a reliever who will hit free agency next year and will probably have to be paid like Tanner Scott anyways.
  15. As a general rule of thumb I don't want to even think about trading a guy with middle of the order bat potential for a reliever. It's just bad business, and Arenado could be on a serious decline right now. His numbers are down, his bat speed has decreased every single year and was at an all time low and is probably not coming back at 34 years old. Casas has something to prove, but he's young and has the ceiling of a 35+ home run hitter who can walk and hit for average. Trading for a reliever to just pay him is just wrong....just go out and pay Scott.
  16. If Breslow trades Casas for Arenado he should be fired for malpractice and chased out of town with pitch forks. I feel dirty for even typing the words Casas and trade in the same sentence.
  17. I take it someone isn't a fan of Marvels "What If?" Maybe Arenado/Hoffman is more realistic. Kirby is still out there too. I do think another bullpen arm is likely, and the Sox have been heavily tied to both Bregman and Arenado.
  18. Not that I expect this, but the offseason most of us wanted is still there for the taking.
  19. What if the Red Sox sign Bregman today, and Tanner Scott tomorrow? How would we feel about the offseason. Rotation additions: Garrett Crochet. Walker Buehler Bullpen Additions: Aroldis Chapman. Justin Wilson. Tanner Scott Lineup additions: Alex Bregman 2025 expected Rookie contributions: Roman Anthony/Kristian Campbell/Luis Guerrero returning injured players expected to contribute: Trevor Story. Lucas Giolito. Garrett Whitlock. Liam Hendriks
  20. The Red Sox are obviously allergic to building their team through free agency, so they will have to draft and trade for the team they want. That's fine, but you only have so many bullets, so why would we want to waste ammunition on what is probably are least need right now. Duran/Rafaela/Abreu is our outfield with Refnsyder being a great platoon 4th and MLB's top prospect on the verge of playing in the MLB. I'm sorry, but if you're going to be unloading the gun, go for a closer or a catcher.
  21. I don't think they really tried as much with Fried as they did with Soto.
  22. Well, there's always negative credibility
  23. They better start extending people if they’re done, otherwise they’ll haven spent even less money this year after saying they would and the FO will lose all credibility
  24. At this point yes. If they traded him a month ago, got a good package of prospects for him to replenish the Crochet haul and then went out and signed Bregman and Burnes I'd totally be ok with it. But I'm very happy to watch him play in Boston until he's 36
  25. I feel the further back in time you go, the more W/L mattered for CY Youngs. My favorite example is 1993. Probably the first year I was fully 100% invested in baseball. Both Randy Johnson and Kevin Appier had superior seasons in almost every way; every way except wins. Johnson and Appier won 19 and 18 games respectively but McDowell won 22. In the spirit of the argument I empathize with the stance that all stats matter, and they most certainly do. While I also belong to the camp that WINS/LOSSES are a poor barometer of how good a pitcher is, I think you'd be hard pressed to ever find a very very very good pitcher with a losing record. I think a better argument would be that wins and losses on their own are a s***** way to evaluate a pitcher, which they are. There was a period of time when record was a deciding factor and that is no longer the case. As it should be.
