Devers has arguably been the worse full time 3B in baseball the past few years. i employ people, if you’re the worse at something im moving your job responsibilities and I have zero remorse. Im sure running a baseball team ain’t the same thing but I’ve learned to always make it about the work. Raffy can’t argue with the play. He can hit but he can’t pick it. I think he has a right to upset with how things were conveyed to him and how they played out. But ultimately he needs to get over it and pick up that 1B glove.

They also just promoted Anderson, who needs bats to go around with Arias, Zanetello, and Alcantara. he’s got power, but his swing produces very little lift. I’m sure he’s going to have plenty of doubles in the gap but until he learns to add some loft he’s never going to be able to tap into his power. he had a home run last that looked like an infielder could have jumped up and caught jt

I saw a woman who speaks Spanish give a slightly different interpretation of the Devers interview during a chat with Kevin Millar on Intentional Talk, and of course I had my sons mother look at it to for me. She translates Spanish to English for a living. She agreed with her. effectively Devers said he doesn’t think he’s the kind of person who can just move from position to position. He doesn’t like being jerked around but he also said “but if they tell me to play another position I think im going to do a good job” he sounds like he doesn’t want to move, but he will if they make him. if that is a more accurate translation, then I think once again this thing is being blown out of proportion. And I have to ask, why aren’t they making him? It’s clearly the best move. AND NO the fact that he wasn’t good at 3B doesn’t mean he will suck at 1b. All the things he stunk at over at 3rd wont matter at 1b. I do like how John Henry personally flew out to KC to talk with Devers. Devers is going to move to 1B eventually.

Devers might think he's sticking it to the F.O. but he's hurting every single one of his teammates by not willing to try 1B.

A move from 3B to 1B is very natural. It's not like they're asking him to catch, pitch, or play CF. He's just being difficult. I defended Raffy this winter, and I still feel for him, but it's very disappointing he's unwilling to move. Maybe he holds a grudge against the F.O. but moving to 1B helps every single one of his teammates and is the best team right now.

When Wong went down Narvaez got more playing time and has shown he may be a better option at catcher. If an outfielder goes down the have Anthony, if an infielder goes down they Mayer and Grissom. When pitchers went down they had Dobbins and Fitts step up. First base is seemingly the only position they didn't have great depth at, and to be fair how often do we see infielders move to 1B in season? not that it's terribly common but it's got to be the easiest transition to make. It's not like the Sox lied to Devers about DHing him all year they would have kept him there if Casas didn't go down. Asking Devers to slide to 1B is the type of move every single organization and every single GM in baseball is going to ask a guy like Devers. It's the most natural movement. Devers to 1B make this team so much better, the open spot at DH gives the Red Sox so much flexibility to figure things about between the likes of Yoshida/Grissom or to make a spot for Anthony/Mayer. I don't blame Raffy for being upset, I was one of his biggest defenders during the offseason. But there's zero reason he shouldn't move to 1B, it's easily the best move for the team and one he should jump at if he really wanted to play the infield.

I think Mayer gets a call if there's a long term injury up the middle. Although hypothetically they could bring up Anthony and move Rafaela to 2nd/SS. Otherwise I don't think it's harmful for him to be spending all or most of the season in AAA. Anthony is the one who I think is going to knock down the door soon enough.

I'm fine with Toro on the roster right now, but it's going to be disappointing if he's still playing 1B when we are at mid season. I'm fine with him there now because this is what he was here for. He's a Band-Aid, right now they should be trying to figure out who is going to play 1b for them a month from now. Devers just makes way too much sense.

Nothing. The Sox don't want to mess with a guys development and switch their positions, and if they were (and they could) I would think they would do it at the MILB level. That would probably only delay his MLB career because you'd think that want him to play the position for at least a month down in AAA. Starting a MLB career is hard enough, they're not going to make a guy adjust to MLB and have to learn a new position at the same time. At some point, in the absence of someone going down to create an opening they WILL find a way to make room for at least Anthony. I still think we could see him in about a month from now.

I'm fairly certain given the aggressive assignment and how young he is that he will remain in Greenville for most of the year no matter how good he is pitching. But he could end up in Portland at the end of the year even if it's only for a start or a few. That would be pretty nuts to have a kid who started the year 18 years old finishing in AA. At this point it might be more about building up strength and stamina for him than developing the pitches to get MLB league hitters out. I wouldn't want him rushed before they're confident he can go a whole season.

Brandon Clarke It's kind of crazy the Sox can trade away their top draft pick from last year to get Crochet and still have two guys from that draft crack the top 100. Both pitchers. Also, one has to imagine if Perales was healthy he would be top 100, he was still listed as a just missed guy. Valera isn't on the national radar yet, or at least in this top 100 but given his trajectory it's only a matter of time. The Sox system is loaded top to bottom.

Not only that but we literally have decades of information showing pitchers tend to drastically decline the third time through the order, and as a matter of fact some of the losses we've had involved the starter giving up runs their 3rd time through. We are playing bad baseball right now, a lot seems to go wrong and there's usually plenty of blame pie to go around to get hung up on one piece. There are certainly things this team NEEDS to do better, but to some extent it does feel like bad luck. This team could catch a cold before they could catch a break right now;.

Exactly, they needed to make a move then when they found out how bad it was they moved him to the 60 day If it’s not Toro then why even have him on the roster. I suspect he won’t last long, I have a hard time seeing the Sox roll with a Romy/Toro first base platoon all year.

Looks like it’s an Abraham Toro/Romney Gonzalez platoon. I get it, this is why Toro is on the roster and if he doesn’t look good you can just get rid of him. It just stinks because you want to see other people get a chance down in Worcester. I’d like to see Grissom given another shot first. Casas ruptured is patellar tendon, he’s out for the year.

There is no Marcelo Mayer story. Sox called up Abraham Toro and Romney is at first base. you have a platoon first base.

What's frustrating is this team was looking poised to go on a run, and then two pitchers who otherwise have been great for you this year are the two who really blew it this series. Whitlock and Slaten. Both those games Giolito and Houck gave you something to be optimistic on and then two guys who haven't been the problem this year blow it. Everyone has bad games, even the best of them, but their timing certainly sucks.

All things considered I feel pretty good about that Giolitos start. First start in two years

Something is going to give, I don't see Roman Anthony down in AAA come June.

I don't expect Buehler to pitch like a 1 or 2 this year, if he does....amazing.

If Walker Buehler pitches good this year, and I say good not great because I don't think he can pitch great, I think he gets the Nick Pivetta treatment. Throw him the Q.O. if he accepts it, then great, if not you hope a team out there nets you a draft pick. And I like Buehler.

I think about the Roman Empire every day. Love the name of the latest soxprospects podcast, diving in deep now. Farm in general is looking great this year with guys looking to step up into the top 10 and make you still feel great about the system after the top 3 leave.

I understand why some people don't want players switching positions, but I'm more open to it than most. For the longest time a team would never entertain a player pitching and hitting, and while someone like Ohtani may be rare, one reason for that is just the sheer fact that once a player goes pro he only focuses on ONE side of the ball. Players coming up thru the minors are increasingly playing multiple positions and moving around the diamond. That type of two way player might be much more common than someone like Ohtani who is a unicorn. I'd believe that some players might benefit from staying put more than others, but if a team feels a guy has the right mindset to move around the diamond, I'm very open to this becoming more of a norm.

I was looking at his career stats, which is still small and why I want to see him get more of a chance in that role.
