  1. If Walker Buehler pitches good this year, and I say good not great because I don't think he can pitch great, I think he gets the Nick Pivetta treatment. Throw him the Q.O. if he accepts it, then great, if not you hope a team out there nets you a draft pick. And I like Buehler.
  2. I think about the Roman Empire every day. Love the name of the latest soxprospects podcast, diving in deep now. Farm in general is looking great this year with guys looking to step up into the top 10 and make you still feel great about the system after the top 3 leave.
  3. I understand why some people don't want players switching positions, but I'm more open to it than most. For the longest time a team would never entertain a player pitching and hitting, and while someone like Ohtani may be rare, one reason for that is just the sheer fact that once a player goes pro he only focuses on ONE side of the ball. Players coming up thru the minors are increasingly playing multiple positions and moving around the diamond. That type of two way player might be much more common than someone like Ohtani who is a unicorn. I'd believe that some players might benefit from staying put more than others, but if a team feels a guy has the right mindset to move around the diamond, I'm very open to this becoming more of a norm.
  4. I was looking at his career stats, which is still small and why I want to see him get more of a chance in that role.
  5. I immediately looked up his stats, and he's better as a starter than a reliever, which does not make sense, so that blows my post out of the water but it is a small sample size and I'd still like to see him in that role. Maybe still in Woo for now but I think he's a good depth option who should get another look at some point. Not like he should be given a ton of rope though.
  6. I wouldn't hate Criswell in the swing man/long man get us 2 innings a few times a few role. I think the Sox are back to putting Whitlock in that role and having two guys who could be shut down there would be awesome. I think he could be better in shorter bursts.
  7. If a player is going to earn more than the option, he's going to sign somewhere else. If a player is not worth anywhere NEAR the option the team is not going to exercise it. If both team and player are interested in each other, then it likely makes sense to just sign a new contract. I'm sure the money from the buyout is taking into consideration when players sign these deals.
  8. I'm kind of curious now, I can't think of ONE. Not saying it hasn't happened.
  9. mutual options are never executed by both sides. I'm sure there may be an occurrence out there somewhere I'm missing, but they aren't.
  10. I'm laughing because I was almost going to say, unless it's someone like Skenes I'm hanging up the phone if anyone comes calling for Anthony.
  11. Anthony strikes me as the type of guy who is going to bet on himself and wait out the market. If he signs an extension in Boston it's going to be for a lot. And if you're betting on yourself, you know the closer to FA you are the more money you're going to get. If Anthony is the guy we hope he is, he's going to take over 1/2 a billion to sign him in about 4-5 years from now. That's just the type of player he strikes me as, and that ain't bad, it ain't bad to be like Campbell either and take the security. I mean, Anthony did get about $2 million more than Campbell in the draft so he's got a little cushion to sit on and wait.
  12. No I get it, I'm not disagreeing. In the end all 162 games matter exactly the same. But we do have to remember it's a marathon and not a race, but again I get it, we want to see the team win and look good. Still, I'd feel better about play in September, guys get cobwebs and slow starts, it happens to all teams. I suppose who deals with it bests is better for it. Sox are tied for the most wins so I'd say we are doing pretty good. Maybe that's because of the "soft" schedule, and if so then hey.....I'd rather play these teams now rather than later. I think the Sox have enough talent on this team to compete with anyone if they're firing on all cylinders.
  13. 100% although I would feel much better about a team winning in September than I would about a team winning in April.
  14. I'm just happy the Sox are winning and we are back to arguing over the normal things that we can argue about when the team wins.
  15. To me Anthony should be untouchable. You will never get back in return what his ceiling is right now and he's doing everything to make you believe he's going to reach it. At 20 years old he's already hitting the ball much harder than even an above average leaguer. If he pans out, he's going to be a contender for MVP's
  16. The Sox are tied for the most wins in the A.L.
  17. well below......in 8 games.
  18. If we are considering more than JUST their record then I'll throw my hat in the ring and point out it's April 22nd. Throw whatever asterisk you want, right now they're a playoff team. They are a .500 team that improved over the offseason and despite some slow starts have a winning record early. This team will be fine. Get on the train, there's plenty of room.
  19. So there is more evidence than just their record then?
  20. That's fair, but then aren't we also saying that record isn't the only evidence? if there are other considerations. My expectations were for the Sox to be better this year. That hasn't changed for me yet, but I'm concerned for a few players. But at the end of the day it's April 22nd. I'm concerned how these guys are playing on September 22nd.
  21. I mean, if the season ended today we are in the playoffs. Going by record we are in a pretty good spot.
  22. And there's probably some alternate universe where Verdugo turned into a complete stud. We are in the wong timeline.
  23. There were a few times were I thought I was wrong, but it turns out I was only mistaken.
  24. I had literally forgotten about that until right now. Graterol would have been a much better return in hindsight. Downs was a top 100, top 50 prospect in some rankings at the time, and up the middle was an obvious need at the time. In an alternate universe if Downs pans out, and the Sox spend the Trevor Story money more wisely people probably are still very upset with the Mookie Betts trade lol, but perhaps slightly less. That's the risk you take when trading a bird in hand for two in the bush.
