95% of the time a player is signing with a team that is either offering him the most money or something very close to it and they make a personal decision to go somewhere, like home. Anyone and everyone in the know who follows baseball would agree with that statement. How many people offered Judge more money? I know one team did but reportedly MLB was ready to nix the deal. SO maybe Judge was going to take the most money but took what was guaranteed. But everyone knows this is generally how free agency works. Actually to be fair a percentage of revenues that are pulled from teams into a pool does goes to player benefits.

They're already doing revenue sharing now, only between the billionaire owners and not the labor.

That type of change would be interesting. As we know with big changes always comes resistance, some people would hate it and others would love it. Personally, I think baseball needs more of a HARD cap, perhaps a salary floor needs to be implemented too. A team that receives revenue sharing should not be allowed to go as low as Tampa for example.

This of long-term contracts makes one ponder. Are these teams banking on the luxury tax line being much higher at the end term of these contracts? in ten years from now the lowest threshold may be $300 million. I keep thinking about the whole structure of the CBA in general; the luxury tax limits, the extra loss of draft picks and reduced value of picks gained from exceeding such thresholds, revenue sharing, loss of international spending money, and the competitive balance compensation draft picks. All of these structures have been put in place to keep big market teams such as LA and NY from being able to dominate the game. If these teams decide to just blow past these thresholds and that leads to lopsided success then I have to believe harsher penalties are coming in the future. Harsher penalties? or perhaps even a hard cap like the NFL. That may be the fairest and most interesting. However the next CBA isn't up for 5 years. There was plenty of talent in this market that could have had for 5 years or less. The whole middle starting pitcher market (with upside) signed for 5 years or less and to date the Sox have not added one starter.

This is why I think no one gets traded, at least not in April. I don’t want to give up on Dalbec yet but I could see him starting in AAA working on positional versatility and seeing if he can improve his contact rate. You can move Hosmer at any time, it’s not hard. It might be easier to wait for a team to have a need at first base to make a trade anyways. Wait for someone to get injured.

Well to be fair, the outcome of the Red Sox is a complex comprehensive issue that is affected by all those things. It's not that you criticize Bloom, it's the fact that every little single thing the guy does is the end of the world to you. It's obsessive, it's unhealthy, and to be honest....it's kind of hilarious. This thread right here is a perfect example. After an entire offseason of not doing anything, he gets criticized for signing a player who projects to be a perennial lead-off hitter (something we desperately need). And your justification is "well he paid more than everyone else" ahh chhhuyeah...that's how free agency works. Duh...but now you need to see everyone's scouting report on it. Maybe we should get medicals too, Maybe a BIRTH CERTIFICATE, make sure he's not lying about his age. It's not that you criticize Bloom, it's that your criticism is SO SO SO heavy it blinds you, and becomes obsessive and seemingly prevents you from any intelligible baseball debate. I can proof this point. There other posters in here who disagree with Blooms decisions ALL the time, and I converse just fine with them.

I don't think that's true, I think one is likely gone by August 1st. But there's zero reasons to trade that depth away right now. I wouldn't be surprised if one is gone......But I don't think it's likely at all.
