  1. 2nd 1/2 ops went from .761 to .798 they went 17-11 in September and pitched good. They had a funk late July early agust but besides that they were mint in the second half. But of course it was a fluke, all seasons are flukey to some extent, that works both ways too. Have to accept both
  2. I know mlb deals include incentives but I’m not sure about how involved they would be. But Verlander would never go for it because someone is giving him a ton of guaranteed money
  3. But in hindsight, if we won in 2021, it would have been with a payroll above the luxury tax line. You could say the same thing about the Sox.
  4. If we should have learned one lesson from the last few years, and many won't, it's the margin between first and last is not as great as we think. Yes, 2021 we overperformed, but it's also true that 2022 was and underperformance. It can certainly be true that many teams overperform and end up winning the world series. You just have to be good and stay healthy to have a chance.
  5. He strikes me as a platoon LF type of bat here. Not something I want to pursue with other holes in RF/SS/P/P/P/P/P/P/P
  6. I always thought the Story signing was underrated, of course in hindsight it's easy to still underrate it because he's played one season here and he was riddled with injury. He was comparable to Bogaerts. Before 2022. XB: .290/.353/.459 .812 OPS TS: .272/.340/.523 .869 OPS Story was thought to have an edge on defense, I think OBP is a little underrated in OPS so I'd say up until that point they were of equal value. From 2016-2021 Bogaerts sported a 23.8 Bwar while Story bested him with 26.9 It would really stink if Story because a year-in and year-out 250-350 PA guy and can never stay healthy, but if last season was the exception and he recovers, he's a premium player. One of the biggest knocks on Story at the time of the signing was Coors field inflated his numbers, but him and Bogaerts had career OPS within .002 from each other playing AWAY.
  7. Not necessarily, they were two games away from a WS In 2021 and 2023 was always an option to reset. They look bad not trading JDM and resetting at the deadline. But that’s easy for me to say in hindsight
  8. I think it was planned. I feel they saw the shift changes coming and realized plus defense was about to become A LOT more valuable at 2nd and they struck preemptively.
  9. I absolutely would. Probably is it's going to take more than Mayer. Marlins will also want Bello and Bleis.
  10. The absence makes sense. He saw himself backed into a corner, so he figured he would buy his time until he could strike again. Like right now, I could see him replying to our last two exchanges because they're no longer centered on baseball but rather the dialogue. That's his arena. He will attack this conversation, or something similar to this. But you will never see him come in here and say what he would have done with the 2023 outfield without Kike, or even with him. Not even for $100 going towards Children's Cancer Research. Kind of selfish when you think about it.
  11. Verlander is seeking 120/3 and I think he gets it. Easily looks worth it after this year, but such risk with his age. He could literally hit the wall next year. Too many eggs in one basket for me. Eovaldi might sign for close to 40/4
  12. What a bunch of bull he couldn't even come up with a name. Just name anyone?!?!?!? even if it is wrong or gets picked apart (not like he ain't used to that) he could have had a $100 dollars donated to charity.
  13. Ok, now I'm actually concerned about Red. Guilt is sinking in, does anyone have his contact information? I think we need to check in on him.
  14. But do they need to? They could dfa a guy at any time right?
  15. This is true, but he never stays down and out for too long and always has a 120+ inning season in him. He doesn’t have the talent, but he’s the opposite of Sale who dies down and stays down. Makes you think he if signed the same 3/39 deal Anderson did he’s probably be worth it. Maybe he has one bad season missing games, one good season that pays the bulk of the contract and one inbetween. I’d be more than happy with the picks and an upgrade, but if Nate could be had for a lower AAV I’d happily welcome him back. Who says no to 4/45?
  16. I speculated if the Sox would try to get Eovaldi for 4/45. Maybe 3/39 is better. I hope this comment doesn’t come off the wrong way but Nathan is the most durable always gets hurt pitcher I’ve seen.
  17. One wonders if he could be more durable in shorter stints out of the pen. If it works, he has the stuff to be one of the best closers in the game. Not sure if he’s be open to the move, but with the way closers get paid nowadays and his track record as a starter….maybe?
  18. Let’s see those 2023 outfields $5 per, $100 per Red (minus Kike) click is ticking…tic tok
  19. Anyone notice how Red has been MIA after I went all put up or shut up on him? He totally strikes me as the type of guy to disappear and come back in a day or two with some story about his aunt dying or his dog getting run over. Refusal to concede at any cost! Here’s the real kicker. It ain’t even about being right or wrong. Just name your outfield.
  20. Correa also doesn’t lose you a pick. It’s the perfect t move for a guy like Bloom trying to make a big splash with an owner who will actually back such a move and allows him to retain his coveted draft picks.
  21. I don't think the team, or any team make long term investments on the basis of players who are below AA. That's a mantra I've seen repeated by industry experts time and time again. Also, if you're signing Bogaerts, if they do it's because Bogey isn't getting what he thought he would on the open market and is comfortable coming back here with the ideal he moves to 3B in 2-3 years. Also, you can't rule them signing Correa out. I seriously doubt Kike is starting at SS next year. He's started a total of 64 games there his entire career, I don't see how they make him a full time SS at 31 when they have 95 million to spend and 4 elite SS on the market. Maybe he's their back up plan, but it's probably plan f or k at this point. IMHO.
  22. If 2024 is the start date. To me, the most viable use of resources this offseason would be to use the cap space to bring in contracts for prospects to trade or MLB players with a lessened price tag. Obviously big deals will be made. I'm sure the Sox make at least one BIG FA signing this offseason with a mixture of other types of moves.
  23. I hope that makes sense.
  24. Again I'm not saying they're a comp, but they're 100% tied into each other. Both are SS on the market this year. For the reasons YOU suggested I'm saying Correa will get paid more, but he's going to set the market. Yes, Correa is going to get paid much more, but it will still be indicative of what Bogaerts may get. If COrrea only gets $225, then Bogaerts is probably looking at a payday in the 15-180 range. If Correa gets 300, Bogaerts is probably looking at a payday in the 225 range. Much less I agree, I feel if I was comparing them I'd be saying they get the same money. Not comparing them, but they're connected and tied to one another. The reverse is also true. If Bogaerts signs for 200 million today, Correas camp is going to say "look what he got" "I'm younger and better I want 300"
  25. In the spirit of the argument, I expect him to build an outfield minus Kike, because he did not like the signing. I would concede him using Kike as a 4th guy seeing how everyone else gets to use Kike. But, everyone else gets $5 contribution, he gets $100
