  1. This really sucks, because they're rebuilding the farm and you'd think they're 1-2 years away from being able to trade away from depth and hold onto high-end assets in the name for sustained success. With the budget they have it would be the season you'd WANT them to spend big in FA.
  2. Ok, so I only went back a few pages into yesterday and decided to count other posters who put their outfield together as part of my ploy, including myself. So far we have: Notin 5Goldgloves Moon MVP Hugh That's $25 so far
  3. I was actually looking at Nimmos games played and I'm already having buyers remorse. I like him, but there's risk there. I'd be open to a defensive stud, stop gap out there if they're upgrading the offense in another place and improving the pitching.
  4. Red missed the deadline last night.....weird. He's normally insanely active on this board during these early hours. Weird...hmmmm. Well do not fret my friends I'm extending my offer until 10:00 PM tonight. OLD RED: I will donate $100 to St. Judes Children Research Hospital in your name if you tell us YOUR starting 2023 outfield without Kike. What you would $ for FA's and prospects you would trade would be honorable, but not expected. You know what, lets make this fun. EVERYONE ELSE who gives me their starting outfield in 2023 (you guys with or without Kike) I will up the $100 by $5 each.
  5. It's funny how people like Bogaerts and Judge are going to get around 200 to 300 as 30 year old players and Kike can't be an everyday player for 10 million at 1 year older.
  6. Wouldn’t be my choice, but one of the ideal I love about Kike in Center and signing another CFer to play right (Nimmo) is if Xander or Story goes down hypothetically you could move Kike to middle infield. Not saying that’s plan A, but it’s an option. I suppose adding Kiermaier with Kike In center gives them the same flexibility. I’m ok with it if they’re upgrading the offense elsewhere.
  7. I’m not a big Gallo fan but if he comes cheap and the money is used wisely on pitching investments and/or going big on Correa I’m ok. I don’t remember where I read but apparently Gallo was the one player who was statistically hurt the most by the shift. Perhaps he’s a good buy low candidate
  8. $100 dollars donated to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital if OLDRED names his 2023 Starting outfield if Kike wasnt resigned. Here’s mine with Kike: Verdugo/Kike/Nimmo signed at 5/105 He has until 10 pm tonight. Tik tok. Put up or shut up time.
  9. It’s not a comp. I think it’s a forgone conclusion Correa is going to get paid more than Bogaerts but it’s a gauge of the markets. If Corre gets 300 Bogey is getting 250. If CC is getting 225-240 Bogey is probably getting something south of 200
  10. True, at other posters stick around. Drive-by is the perfect analogy
  11. Still can’t name names. $100 dollars. I’ll donate it to ST. Jude’s Children Research Hospital and post PROOF of it. Think of ALL the time you spend complaining, arguing back and forth, claiming to have a good opinion based on no opinion at all. How do you know a better option than KIKE exists if you can’t even name ONE name.
  12. That’s fine, but you’re also tying up 75-80 million in just Verlander and Bogaerts. You still need an outfielder, and at least 2-3 more pitchers. Makes a Devers extension, or a Bogaerts reunion unlikely. Both unlikely, I think one happens. Still, if the SS FA market goes crazy, the Sox may go this route. IF someone signs Correa for 290-300 million, Bogaerts is getting a lot more than 160/180. I don’t think that happens….but it’s really hard to predict the market. Especially this year. With the shift changes, there will be more value on up the middle defense, and with not a lot of talent elsewhere in the FA market teams looking to add offense could be thinking of moving a SS to 2nd/3rd and sign one of the big 4.
  13. Average? Lol I remember when I had my first beer. What about OPS? What about defense. Also, do you know what the average average is in MLB? In 2022 it was .243. So he’s effectively and average hitter with a little pop and GG caliber defense in CF and you think 10 million 1 year is an overpay for that????? Again nice job not naming names. A little kid just died from cancer in the last two minutes. You could literally shut all your detractors up by making an actual point and naming names. But you can’t…we all see it dude.
  14. The most ironic thing. The literal NAME of this thread is 2023 free agents. Like….WTF are you even doing in here if you can’t name names.
  15. That’s the thing that gets me the most. I get everyone has different opinions and visions for how to improve but when your only argument is vague statements like “go get a centerfielder” or trade for a “#1 pitcher” without naming names, contracts that make sense, and prospect packages to trading partners that makes sense you’re just talking out of your ass. That’s what I don’t respect. Add those things in and I’ll respect a different opinion. It’s like some fans act like the rest of MLB exists for our amusement. We can just go down to the CFer store and go get a good centerfielder for a price that works for us. This ain’t “name your price” lol. Or we can trade away our garbage to a team who will willingly give us away their top young pitchers. It’s no wonder these people get angry when trades are actually made and free agents are actually signed. Despite their wishes to do so it’s always “too high” a price because they have zero concept what it actually takes to build a team. Remember this. I’m calling it now. No matter who the Sox sign or trade for this off-season, they are going to hate it and complain about it. Now I expect some generic rebuttal about is being on Blooms nuts. Like yeah, we haven’t critiqued him as much as others in here, but a lot of people who have defended Bloom have also criticized him too. It’s not a zero sum game. At least we can say that.
  16. That’s $100 dollars that could go towards curing cancer in children. Or wounded warriors. Make the world a better place and put me in my place.
  17. Dude I’m sorry, but this has got to be the dumbest f***ing comment ever. Your whole point is on the opinion that his 2023 will reflect his 2022. When has he sucked before? He’s really only had ONE down season since he was 23 and before then he was young and still developing. If he’s fully recovered he’s worth way more than 10 million. What player, on the free agent market can play the outfield hasn’t had ONE bad season. Or had one injury riddled season. Name one? I dare you. Name one who won’t cost more than double KIKEs contract and I’ll donate $100 to a charity of your choice. And the whole “guess it is for you” no it’s isn’t for me. Don’t put words in my mouth that are based on YOUR opinion. My opinion is, it’s more likely than not Kike plays better in 2023 and is worth 10 million. Have you seen the 2023 FA market in the outfield. You know we needed a CF and a RF. Who do you sign to “make the team better” I bet you can’t answer that question.
  18. You don't even know what the numbers are. What is your rotation next year? and what do you sign the guys for?
  19. If Kike is healthy, 10 million is a steal, it's also a one year deal, I also think they may have looked at the free agent market in the outfield this offseason and saw value in locking him up early.
  20. Kike was injured this year, if he comes back and performs like he did in 2021.......how are the Red Sox not better?
  21. I disagree for two reasons. A.) Two more years of team control is big deal, especially for a high-end player in his Prime. B.) This is even more important, guys who sign earlier always take a little less money for security. A lot can happen in three years. Guys can decline, guys can get injured and never fully recover. The mindset and reasoning for accepting a deal before a player hits free agency is always on the basis of taking less money sooner to guarantee a payday. Guys who have the mindset of betting on themselves, and have agents who convey these wishes either take them to free agency or only sign when the team pays the "buy now price". It's easy to see why the best of the best of the best athletes in the world at their sports might have this mindset. The fact that Riley took the money three years before arbitration is all the ancedotal evidence we need to suggest he was willing to take under market value to guarantee a payday. Devers chose to bet on himself. With that said. I would agree that the Riley deal is a perfect example of what a Devers extension should have looked like up until last season. It's actually a great example, so Kudo to Red on that one. I'm saying it's apples to Oranges because Devers is choosing to go to free agency and will get offered much more. If Devers was willing to sign an early extension I would agree, but it's blatantly obvious he chose to bet on himself. There's nothing wrong with players who do this, and there's nothing wrong with those who take the money.
  22. One thing to constantly take into consideration is guys who go to free agency and choose to go there are seeking and baring underperformance and injury ALWAYS expect and get more money. Guys take less money early in their careers to take the guaranteed payday while others bank on themselves. Riley's contract refects that and ended up buying out many of his team-controlled years. So it's a poor comparison. What would Riley get if he maintained his level of play and hit the free market?
  23. He cares!!!! Red Cares! See everyone can change. If I can change, and you can change….then we can all change!!!
  24. Pitchers have injuries all the time, all players have injuries throughout their career. How many injuries does DeGrome have and he’s going to get 40 million per. Eovaldi is 32, Verlander is going to get 40 million plus and he’s going to be 40. This is the price of admission Red. Now, I’m reference to your post above. Budgets matter, but window matters too. The Sox need starters, how much do you think they cost? Also, if Nate rejects, they’re not paying him 20, you assume he accepts. Also we don’t know if the Sox plan on resetting this year or next. I’ve speculated it’s this year but I could be wrong. If it’s next year then one year means nothing. They can go 50 million over if it’s all on one year deals. This is the power in short term contracts, it gives you more opportunity to reset.
  25. Let’s also throw some rational out into the universe. If 2021 has nothing to do with 2023, neither does 2022. Except they do.
