  1. I think he was listed somewhere as a NT candidate so some people caught it stuck in their heads he wasn't that good. He's a good but not great player, JBJ's continued regression and the prospects sucking made it look really really bad. Bloom has received a lot of unjust criticism around here and in Boston.....But this trade is not part of that.
  2. Who says he can’t stand the heat? Here is apparently still making moves pissing off the base on November 23rd
  3. I mean look, if these are the only types of moves Bloom makes and he doesn’t sign another relieve or two (one of them being reliable and proven) a couple proven starter, and Star SS I’ll stand with all the Bloom haters calling for his head. But I expect those moves to be made, which is why I don’t mind and dare I say I like low risk high reward at the bottom of the roster like this.
  4. I think it’s funny how people get all hot and bothered over every tiny move. There are others bothered right now because the Sox Signed a minor leaguer. Like….you realize Bello is going to be a good MLB pitcher (finally) someone has to catch his fly balls and field his grounders in the minors coming up.
  5. I get people don’t like Bloom, but it’s absurd when every move gets scrutinized like this. Like the Sox can not and should not make any moves until the fix everything at the top. Love him or hate him that’s not how this works.
  6. Because I’ve never heard the suggestion that teams can’t focus on more than one deal at once, like they don’t have a domestic reserve list of 180 players to maintain.
  7. It’s actually against the CBA for a team to leak what a player is asking for.
  8. Is this a serious comment?
  9. I’m sorry, do teams not try to get tough lefties out anymore. He’s not horrible against righties either. Teams don’t hit him hard he just sucks with control. You know how it goes. You tweak a thing with these guys and things can change, strike gold like Andrew Miller. For 1 million maybe the Sox thought he was worth it if they see something in him they can tweak.
  10. exactly, smaller moves come first, because they're much easier to make. How many people are bidding on Rodriguez vs. Bogaerts and Correa? If you're their agents you're telling them to hold off....they want to speak to everyone and drive up the price. It's almost smart to make these smaller moves first but you know how fans get. They expect all the big moves up front otherwise it's just more "dumpster diving"
  11. can get lefties out, something I believe they struggled with last year.
  12. That was my theory, and well.....that hasn't worked out great so far.
  13. See my comment above, I hate it if it's their only bullpen move. If they're adding other names and they are taking Rodriguez because they see something in him I don't hate it. To reiterate my point you know how volatile these bullpen guys are. For a million beans? who cares.
  14. Dear god you're correct lol. Why did I think we released him? I think it's because I've got it into my mind we are going to release him or trade him at some point this offseason. People forget how volatile bullpen arms are. Like REALLY volatile, I remember in 2021 at the deadline everyone was pissed we signed Robles and Davis. Now they didn't exactly light the world on fire but they were acquired for almost nothing and both performed significantly better in Boston than they did earlier that year. Rodriguez has some nice swing and miss stuff but not the best results. Teams make moves like this all the time because they see something in a guy they think they can tweak.
  15. He's an upgrade over Braiser, and a lefty who can get leftys out. It's not the sexiest move.
  16. Well it’s not Verlander, which means a lot of people are about to get all hot and bothered.
  17. Fair, but to be more fair, that’s probably why we shouldn’t use extensions like that as a comp
  18. Olson is almost 3 whole years older than Devers, that’s an even worse comp.
  19. Players who are taking extensions buying out multiple arbitration years are almost always taking less money. Players who wait get paid more. It’s not the greatest comp
  20. If your argument is to bring up a once in a generation HOF talent (Trout) you have no argument. End.
  21. Ughhh, because he only just played his age-25 season dude. people are saying that for a reason, and they're correct. Also, 300 might just be his starting asking price, he might easily be willing to meet in the middle around 250/275. That's good value for him, he would be paid that or more in free agency.
  22. 300 million over 10 years would mean he would have to be worth about 5 WAR per year. By the end of his contract that might be closer to 2.5 WAR the way inflation is going to the past decade. No he's actually only eclipsed 5 WAR once in his career, but given his age and offensive potential, his best offensive years are likely in front of him. He might easily put up a few 7+ WAR seasons in his prime. Devers could be worth that, he's just 26 now and will be 26 for all of next season. People forgot how young he is, if you like age projections then it's conceivable that he's going to get better and better.
  23. They will probably settle somewhere around 275/10 for Raffy. Take off a few years and increase the AAV if you will. That's my prediction. The number could be much larger or front loaded and offer him an opt-out after 3-4 years as well. Which I wouldn't hate, because at the very least we'd get him for 2-3 more years in his prime and not have to worry about the back end of that contract.
  24. We only hear what’s reported, not what isn’t. I’m sure Devers side gave them a “buy now” price. The question is how much they’re willing to negotiate before they say “f*** it, well go to FA”
  25. I mean, this is probably insanely way too premature but I kind of want to move Mata to the pen and groom him for a closer role now, with the hopes he’s a staple in the Boston pen by mid season next year. Maybe get a proven guy to close games with him for 2023
