  1. That’s what I thought. so saying the Sox will win enough games to make the post season every year in the 3 WC era and NOT make the playoffs…..is certainly a hot take
  2. I’m not sure if a 90 win team has ever not made the playoffs in the wild card era?
  3. If the Sox win 89 games they’re very likely to be a wild card team. if you think they’re going to win 89-90 games why are you so dead set on them not making the playoffs?
  4. $6 million is not high for a bench player. IKF has been worth $10.25 the last several years
  5. Ahh ok, gotcha. I can’t not miss everything
  6. So if they win 90 games they’re a playoff team? but yeah, it makes sense under the old format, when only 4 teams made the playoffs that 90 win teams missed the playoffs
  7. Not that I agree with Fred, but I think the spirit of that argument is unchanged. The Sox need to hit.
  8. Has a 90 win team ever missed the playoffs? Maybe in the pre wildcard era. Admittedly I didn’t go back very far after looking over the last few years. I determined it abused and not worth exploring further
  9. Posting a win total isn’t mandatory and Fred did vote in the poll. So let’s give him credit here. although he did vote less than 88 wins and then say they’d win 90 so I think he is a little indecisive
  10. Ok this is what I get for trusting AI Interesting enough the offense had a few blowouts, they scored 18 runs a game twice tha month. you take out those two games the average drops by a whole run scored. 4.4 I’m not denying the pitching was a large part of the collapse, I don’t even want to argue that it wasn’t the main cause. But the offense was t exactly showing up either
  11. I mean, the offense did average 2.9 runs per game in September. But I do agree the pitching was a major major part of that collapse.
  12. What a wild, weird, strange, and disappointing season that was. Never seen a team do such a 180 before To me, they were the most talented bad team ever. On paper they were really good, they just went out and got AGON and Crawford and still had Lester/Becket at the top of their rotation. They lost the first 6 games of the year and finished April 11-15 They went on to finish 7-20 in September, and miss the playoffs by 1 game. Everything in between? for 2/3 of the MLB season they were the most dominant team in MLB. For the majority of the MLB season they were on pace to easily be a 100 win team (106 wins). But they started off slow, and completely fell off a cliff in September. They looked like the 2025 Dodgers by the end of August, and by the end of the year they looked like the 2026 Athletics.
  13. I set the poll to close on opening day, so people are free to change their minds as players get hurt or show up in BSOHL in ST.
  14. Alright, time to place your hypothetical bets. The prize???? bragging rights.
  15. Come on, everybody knows they traded Ruth for cold hard cash. don’t worry, Kyle Harrison isn’t Babe Ruth
  16. Suggestions: we can put the poll up, but just have it closed before game 1
  17. Quinn Priester vs. Kyle Harrison at the time of their trade. Age: QP: 24 KH: 24 IP: QP: 92 KH: 158 FWar QP: -.5 KH: .8 last Prospect ranking QP: 88 KH: 26 Kyle Harrison was a much better prospect than Quinn Priester was at the time of their trades.
  18. Kyle Harrison is almost the same exact age Quinn Priester was when we traded him last year. When Priester was traded he was 24, coming off of 2 part time seasons where he put up a -1.0 WAR but was a highly regarded prospect who ranked between 58-88 the few years prior. The Brewers took him and got him right. Harrison, same age Preister was last year, .5 WAR the last few seasons, ranked between 26-38 the last few years. At this point in his career, Harrison is arguably a much better prospect than Preister was. If people are angry we traded Priester....they should be very angry we traded Harrison. But that's my horrible take, reality is this is what the Brewers do, they're great at developing guys like Preister.....there's a good chance they get Kyle right and he becomes a very good pitcher.
  19. Who....in baseball has an "elite" staff?
  20. Not really, the point was it was two entirely different trades. Here's another crude analogy. People need to think about what defines a "sunk cost" around here. Should the Sox NEVER trade Harrison until he becomes more valuable than Devers? That's exactly how traders who lose all their money in the stock market react when their assets go down. Mentally they don't lose the money until the actually trade an asset away.....so they hold onto it for even longer as it continues to depreciate.
  21. You realize I was being extremely sarcastic? I like my $100 for $10 example better.
  22. Alternate comp. Nomar led to O Cabrera, led to Jacoby Ellsbury, led to Michael Kopech, led to Chris Sale, led to Vaughn Grissom, who led to Isaiah Jackson. We have to closely follow Jackson this year to see if the Nomar trade was a good one.
  23. At the end of the day these are people trying to predict the future. People are very poor predictors of the future. at 87.5 I'd take the over on the Red Sox. Call me a homer.....I'm going to full homer this year.
  24. We trade Nomar Garciaparra for Orlando Cabrera, who we lost to FA, but with the compensation pick we drafted Jed Lowrie, we trade Lowrie for Joel Hanrahan. So we essentially trade Nomar for Joel Hanrahan.....what a disgrace.
  25. Well HUGHCOTA has them at 95-67
