  1. Story is going to have to perform at the back end of his contract now do be worth the money, because he aint' opting out. The good news is, a healthy Story is a really good ball player. The bad news is, what if he can never get back to that level of play? He is only going to be in his age-30 seasons so there's a decent chance he still comes back strong. Lets just hope this is one of those situations where it's not a snowball effect of injury after injury. A lot of guys get injured and have a lost year or two and then come back fine, while others are seemingly never the same or struggle longer. I don't know if I'd want to bet on him, but seeing how we are stuck with his contract I'm certainly rooting for him. I feel a heck of a lot better if he has a productive 2nd half to 2023.
  2. If he was healthy in todays market he'd get a lot more than that. Todays Story in Todays market would not get very much at all. He might get a high AAV with way less years and an opt out. Or just short term deal. Well actually, he wouldn't even get any of that because he can't play for at least 1/2 the season. He might get a contract structured like Paxton but with a lot more money potentially.
  3. At the time of the signing Story actually had an OPS .002 higher than Bogey AWAY from Coors, or maybe it was .002 lower but I think it was higher. Point is, effectively the same.
  4. You got to love the off-season threads that just turn into a carrousel of repeating arguments. There are no winners, only daily, come back tomorrow and play again. Maybe we just need pitchers and catchers to report so we can talk about something else. But this story situation is just stupid stupid stupid.
  5. Over Over Under Over Under Over
  6. Soxprospects identified him as a guy who could be DFA'd next. who knows, maybe he clears.
  7. If Andrus is holding out for three years he could be getting two year deals with slightly higher AAV but not enough to entice him to a 2 year deal. Maybe we can sign him to a 2 year deal with a team option third year, but put a $6 million buyout in it. That way we can pay him a little bit more money for effectively two years but keep the AAV down a bit.
  8. Bloom wouldn't know what to do with a medical any more than me or you would, he's reading or listening to a doctors interpretation and recommendations of such report. Of all the reasons to hate Bloom, the only way this would ever make sense is if it came to light that Bloom forced or coerced Story to make a medical decision AGAINST the advice of a medical professional here. This does not appear to be the case by any means.
  9. Fine, that's fair, I have no quarrels with that stance and agree. My issue is with the stupid ideal that if he had surgery now, he should have had surgery back in October.
  10. This team could win anywhere between 0-162 games next year.
  11. I'm going to say it again I don't care how annoying it's but anyone who feels a person should have been pressured into getting surgery when they may not have needed surgery just lacks all empathy for their fellow man. And after what happened in Buffalo a week ago you'd think people would use their brains before regurgitating such garbage.
  12. That's exactly it. This can still be a bad signing, Bloom can still be bad at his job, AND people can back off of the "they should have made him get the surgery sooner" argument which is just unethical, lacking knowledge of common medicine, and wrong on so many levels. Let's also factor in Kike tweeting today calling some of the reports about his earlier knowledge complete ********. He literally tweeted and used the word ******** there too I believe. I will never understand why people make the arguments they do. This is NOT an attempt to defend Bloom, the wolves can have him IDK. I have no idea where people got that nonsense from other than......fan frustration. Emotions play a large role in the decisions we make, it's evolutionary, and here we see some people who clearly get emotional and can not think rationally when they get upset.
  13. Or about an Elvis Andrus, which we need right now
  14. Makes perfect sense, Sox still need maybe two infielders now, or maybe one and a CFer. Also, you need space to bring guys up and there’s always the trade deadline Also, at this point, it makes 100% sense to reset this season. It might have been harder to fill those holes if we added AAV this year.
  15. Obviously there’s many other risks than death, and those being more likely too. Surgery is never a guarantee, ever. It’s always recommended that it be avoided. You’d think after the Bills game that more sports fans would have compassion for athletes. This is just entertainment for us but to them this is their life. To get mad at them because they tried to avoid surgery at this point in time in our country is just lack of empathy and lack of understanding of modern medicine.
  16. On average a person dies everyday from just basic procedures. Surgery is NEVER a guarantee and always a last resort. The debate should really just end right there.
  17. I’ve herniated a disc, torn ligements and tendons (partially) and fully rehabilitated myself without surgery. Actually last year around this time I was laying in my back in my office unable to move. I could of had surgery but my doctor told me it could be avoided. I did everything right, completely revolutionized how I exercised my core and made core strength a fundamental part of my routine. Just 3 weeks ago I entered the 1,0000 lb club, a feat well known in the bodybuilding community. I am happy and greatful to have avoided surgery as any person should be, but it is their personal choice. To suggest that an injury which extent is unknown to us, without any medical knowledge or actual access to his records no one can definitively say that surgery should have been recommended at an earlier time. No one, this argument should really just die right now. Plenty of legit, and real reasons to be upset with this FO. Just stop people.
  18. This is just wrong, and pure conjecture at best. I take it you have very little exposure or experience with modern medicine. A competent medical staff is going to avoid surgery with a patient. That’s just how things work, it would be on Story to push for a surgery otherwise it would be an ethics voilation to push surgery when not needed as a first line of treatment. Unless you are medical doctor who has access to Story’s medical (which unless you were his doctor would be a massive HIPPA violation) stating that surgery was optimal months ago and should have been suggested then is pure 100% conjecture in your part.
  19. And I would admit this is one of those instances where all opinions matter. I was admittedly on the fence, I didn’t have much faith and would have been ok going for it but was leaning towards resetting.
  20. This is a great reminder to all you people to not forget to work on your grip strength. One of the biggest causes of elbow injuries is weak forearm strength. Yes, we don’t all play 2nd for the Sox but I’m assuming there are a few Tennis players, Golfers, and weight lifters in here.
  21. I agree. I was the cheer leader for Story staying at 2nd because of his elbow.
  22. I think there’s a difference between a realistic chance and “mathematical chance” a very big difference.
  23. Of all the vast anti-bloom arguments we’ve had in here I think it’s rehashing a point I tried to make that didn’t seem to resonate then but perhaps now. People love to have a scapegoat in front of them blame, when in reality there’s a blame pie. Bloom aside (because it’s discussed in perpetuity in here and I don’t want this post to be about that) there’s also scouting staff, medical staff, and player development personal that app have profound impacts on the big league club. You got to make sure you’re paying the rights ones to stay. A team is a whole organization.
  24. In hindsight, it would have been a really really really good decision.
  25. I can get the criticism for signing Story in the first place with these concerns BUT complaining about the timing is just stupid built on top of stupid. Surgery is always a last resort, and often can be avoided, sometimes unfortunately this is NOT the case. We have no ideal how Story looked a few months ago, some who suggest he should have just had surgery sooner when it’s a maybe he recovers because it can make a fans life easier has got to be the thing most lacking of empathy you can think of. Not surprised by where it’s coming from on this forum. Even simple surgeries can go wrong, people die from basic procedures everyday in this country, and there’s a whole host of infections that a very dangerous that come with surgery as well. Also, hospitals have been backed up and strained lately with procedures being put off and back up. Again, I get the anger over the signing, but questioning the timing I hope people reconsider. I know no one changes their opinions on anything in here but now would be a nice time for people to basic good human beings.
