  1. Exactly. The Sox decided that they were going to move Mookie before he hit free agency. They didn't trade him just so they could include Price. Apparently, the Dodgers were not willing to take Price's full contract. Maybe Bloom should have insisted they do .
  2. Yes. It was a simple reply to Nick's post. It is pretty much just common sense that you shouldn't add to your bank account while your house falls into disrepair. But Moon has to be disagreeable. " Don't replace the roof every year. " Really ?
  3. Pretty sure the Dodgers would have gladly done the Betts trade without Price being a part of it. The Sox motivation was strictly to drop half of Price's contract.
  4. In four years with the Sox, David Price went 17-9 , 6-3 , 16-7 and 7-5. I am not going to reopen the " wins are overrated" debate. Just saying that it would be nice if some of the jabronis we have been running out there since Price left were a little more like him and not just lovable losers.
  5. Mookie Betts is a great player. He would make any team he was on better. Picking out a few, small sample, post season numbers to disparage his value is asinine. Let's not get ridiculous.
  6. But you spend what it takes to keep your house in good shape. You don't let it fall apart and put more money in the bank.
  7. The Sox were doing very well. They had a winning formula. Then they decided to change it. Apparently, the reason was to save the owner money. And things have gone downhill since. Is it any wonder that fans are upset ?
  8. Why are the Yankees so good ? And why are the Sox so bad ? Is it the owners ? The front offices ? The managers ? The players ? All of the above ? Lastly, why have our expectations become so low ?
  9. At the one third mark of the season, our Red Sox are already 11.5 games behind the arch rival Yankees. If that doesn't tick you off, I don't know what else to say.
  10. Pivetta is another ham and egger, albeit a durable one. He has never won more than ten games in a season. Career ERA well over 4.
  11. Sox continue the same pattern of beating the bad teams and losing to the better ones. The good news is that there is no shortage of bad teams, so you can stay in the wild card hunt just by winning those games. Four games coming up with the ChiSox, without a doubt the worst team in MLB.
  12. It is obvious that there has been a very clear drop off in Red Sox fan interest . Attendance. TV ratings. Sports talk shows. Interest in general. All down. Even on here we are seeing game threads not even two pages long, and half of that is your repetitive prose. To me, it signifies poor management. But it's okay for you to defend it. We need people like you.
  13. I would tell him, " No, I can't afford it. My wife wants a new yacht. " Then I would wonder why my customers were angry. And I would go into hiding.
  14. If you can't develop your own, you need to give up something to get one. And pay what it takes.
  15. Liam Hendricks is a good pitcher. Kenley Jansen is one of the all-time best closers. They are about the same age. Jansen has 429 saves. Hendricks has 116. Career ERA: Jansen - 2.53. Hendricks- 3.82. Well over a full run higher. Do you call this an improvement? What the Sox should do is go out and get one of the triple digit- fastball young fireballers, of which there are several in MLB today.
  16. I never liked John Henry. Even when the Sox were winning. The man just does not have any likable qualities. That is strictly my own opinion. You can have yours.
  17. Pythagoras couldn't hit the breaking ball. He did invent the often heard phrase " why can't we save some of those runs for tomorrow " however.
  18. The Dodgers found Bloom very pleasant to deal with.
  19. Back to the softer part of the schedule, where the Sox have done quite well. They also catch a break in that Skubal pitched for the Tigers yesterday, so they will not face him in this series.
  20. I think Walton was a likable sort of guy. I remember when Notre Dame ended UCLA's 88 game winning streak, Walton left the arena whistling the Irish fight song. He was not exactly devastated by it all.
  21. Things could change. Sale could get hurt. Grissom could start to show some pop. But the early returns on the trade sure look like the Atlanta G.M., Alex Anthopolous, hustled the new kid on the block, Breslow. Hornswoggled him, if you will. Sometimes you just need to live and learn.
  22. I was going to sit down with a pencil and paper and figure out how one guy's bWAR would be higher than another guy's. But it might be different on fWAR. Then I realized that I have no idea how it is derived. And I don't really care.
  23. Bringing up Kavadas seems like a logical move. Almost in the no-brainer category. I don't see any particular downside to it. Maybe Breslow knows something we don't.
  24. Right now, the trade looks very lopsided in favor of Atlanta. That really cannot be disputed. It would help if Grissom could get off the road to Jabroniville and become a good MLB ballplayer. We will just have to wait and see what happens.
  25. Max has an agenda. He will say that Dombrowski was only successful because he spent money. And poor Bloom wasn't allowed to. The next day, he will make an eight thousand-word post explaining why money doesn't matter. Teams win without spending and vice versa. And other like-minded posters agree without seeing the contradiction.
