  1. Eight would be great.
  2. The obvious question is : Where would the Sox be today if they had Sale at the top of the rotation all year ? I don't think there is anything Grissom can do in the future to adequately compensate. The verdict is in. The trade was a big mistake. Nothing more to be said. Move on.
  3. For a top of the line pitcher, Cole seems to give up a lot of bombs.
  4. The inimitable John Sterling would say, " That's baseball, Suzyn".
  5. " Wait until next year" is getting a little tiresome.
  6. It will be interesting to see what the Mets do at the deadline. They have turned their season around big time.
  7. The Sox are looking for relievers, a starter and a right-handed bat. They are not selling. One game does not change anything.
  8. Interesting. Apparently, Quantrill mocked McGuire about the " masturbation incident" during today's game. Stay tuned.
  9. They are never wrong. It's just that things change.
  10. Overall, Cora has done a good job. I don't know why everyone was so sure he was leaving. When he has a good team , he knows how to win. Hard to win with the lack of talented players we have seen the last couple of years.
  11. Red Sox management should know by now exactly what they want to do at the deadline. If their decision is based on how the team does in the next four games, they should not be in a management position.
  12. I think defensive metrics are a very dubious stat. We have seen Rafaela make some very nice plays at shortstop. That being said, he is definitely better in center. Duran is another good example of the unreliability of defensive metrics. His have changed drastically in one year. Is it that he has suddenly improved that much or could it be they were mistaken to begin with ? If you like digging up those numbers, fine. I would rather just watch the games and form my own opinion.
  13. The reason for losing close games late is usually the bullpen. Cannot emphasize enough how important the pen is in baseball today. Fortifying the pen should be a priority ASAP.
  14. If the team stays in contention for a wild card, you would definitely want Casas back. If you are not in contention, then it doesn't much matter.
  15. JBJ just signed with the Mets.
  16. I would check out the bullpens of the teams that are obvious sellers. I am certain that you could find a couple of good, hard throwing relievers who would give the Sox pen a much-needed boost. And it would not cost all that much to get them. And if a starter like Paxton is available, take a shot. The team has come too far to give up now.
  17. No way you give up and become sellers just because you hit a rough patch. Try to improve the team and go for it. You don't have to mortgage the future to do that.
  18. I guess you missed my pre-season prediction.
  19. Thanks for explaining to me how it works. Actually, I am very familiar with gambling. And I know that if I get a bet down on a football game, I don't care if the point spread changes at halftime. And I definitely don't care what Fangraphs thinks. Or you, for that matter.
  20. Fangraphs odds mean nothing. They change like the weather. Sweep the Rockies and the odds will change again.
  21. The fact that starters do not often go deep in games puts a strain on the bullpen. They do wear down. Just about every contender is looking for relievers at this time of year. And closing is always stressful. I was not too impressed with the Dodger's closer either. He had to be yanked before he blew a six run lead.
  22. I am just trying to be helpful. Keep things in perspective. The randomness and just plain luck involved in baseball cuts both ways. We should not get too high or too low over the outcome of any one game or short series. I have certainly expressed my dissatisfaction with many of the things that have happened since 2018. But I do think it is odd to be sky high over the team one day, then become disgusted because they lost on the road to a team like the Dodgers.
  23. The Dodgers are a really good team. And they will get better. Mookie, Muncy, Yamamoto, Glasnow and Kershaw will return. Couple of relievers as well. And they surely will be in on the bidding for Skubal and Crochet. The Sox got swept by them but played them pretty tough. It's not the end of the world. Things will be much easier against the Rockies. The chances of making the playoffs are still very good. The mood swings are not good for you. Relax.
  24. I am thinking more of the future. If Abreu were traded now, there are other options for replacing him. Just as there were when he was injured.
  25. Personally, I would rather have the occasional 18 inning game than have the ghost runner rule. I don't like it one bit.
