  1. With Anthony expected to join Duran and Rafaela in the outfield, Abreu certainly seems to be expendable.
  2. Maybe so. You would know the Cubs better than I would. ( They have always been my favorite N.L. team) But the fact is, it is three years later and they are in last place.
  3. It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. On the road , in extra innings, if you don't at least score your ghost runner, you are in a very precarious position. The home team will play for one run to walk it off.
  4. Yes. Theo was gone. Hoyer was in charge. I don't know how much influence Breslow had.
  5. The Cubs blew it up in 2021 when they had a good team that just needed a couple of starting pitchers. . Had a huge fire sale and started a rebuild. I don't think they would want to do that again so soon. That's not to say they wouldn't like to move Taillon.
  6. Haven't heard anything different than the August timeline. If he is his old self, it would help a lot down the stretch. A big IF.
  7. Game threads are a mixture of emotions, sarcasm, humor, hope, " expertise", anger and despair. Kind of like a bunch of guys watching the game at a bar.
  8. Mason Miller certainly has looked special so far. He is not for sale cheap. But there are also numerous hard throwing relievers out there whose names are not familiar to most fans. And it would not take one of the " big 3 or 4 " to get them.
  9. Yes. That is why Bloom is out and Breslow is in. We have to give him a chance.
  10. There are not too many teams that are sellers at this point. But there are surely some decent bullpen arms who will be available without costing an arm and a leg.
  11. Bullpens are counted on more today than in the past. As the season goes on, they do tend to wear down. But that is not unique to the Sox. Every team has that issue.
  12. Not at all. A tough loss, on the road, against a very good team is not a reason to panic.
  13. Getting those final outs to close a game is not easy. Everything is amped up. The best to ever do it, Mariano Rivera, blew some big saves in his Hall of Fame career. He said, " closers need to have a short memory". Jansen knows this. He will bounce back. Yes, the Sox need some bullpen help. So does just about every contender.
  14. For anyone interested, MLB Extra Innings has a free preview at least through the weekend. I think the Sox/Dodgers games are on Fox tonight and ESPN on Sunday night.
  15. I don't fault Cora for last night. Managers are second guessed for pitching changes probably more than anything else. He played the percentages. It didn't work out. Ohtani and Freeman are great hitters. If Dave Roberts brings in a lefty to get Duran and Devers out, nothing is said. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
  16. Do you actually not know that Terry Francona is retired, at least for now?
  17. A lot of contenders need more pitching. You could try to get a guy like Flaherty for a lower-level prospect, but someone will probably top that offer. I guess there is no harm trying.
  18. I am sure that the Sox have their own internal evaluations of their minor league prospects. Who would know them better than their minor league managers and coaches ? Some fans freaked out about some of the prospects that Dombrowski traded away. But apparently Sox management saw Devers as the real deal, while some of the other highly touted guys were seen as flawed and less likely to achieve stardom in MLB. Of course, you can always make a mistake. But you can't just say the so-called " Big 3" are untouchable. You have to trust your baseball people to be smart about it.
  19. Dipre, I fully understand how it works. I have been following baseball for a long time. Not "spewing " anything. Just stating my opinion. I am very confident in my opinions. Your overbearing , juvenile retorts do not bother me one iota. Have a nice day.
  20. A day or night at the ballpark gets more expensive all the time. People have to be pretty motivated to do it. Obviously, having a good team helps a lot.
  21. It was pretty obvious that Breslow was looking for pitching in the draft. And it kind of silenced the chorus chanting " Best player available. You can always trade them for pitching." They scoffed at those who wanted to draft more pitching. Now, the tune has changed.
  22. I always argued against trading Duran. Always said he was a very key member of this team. Good thing Breslow felt the same way.
  23. I don't know if that was meant as a compliment. Carnera was known as "The Ambling Alp."
  24. Nothing to do with anything, but watching Triston Casas and hearing him talk , he looks and sounds a lot like the former boxing champion, Oscar De La Hoya. If he has an MLB career like De La Hoya had in the ring , it will be great to see.
  25. There are no sure things in baseball, but this game is about as close to it as you going to get.
