  1. That was Billy Bean who died. A former player, but not the Money Ball Billy Beane.
  2. Another thing to consider is the pitch clock and the toll it takes on pitchers. People don't want to hear that because they like shorter games. But it is real. You can't always be in hurry-up mode. Base stealing is easier, which puts more pressure on the pitcher. The ghost runner in extras. It's tough.
  3. As stated before, the Sox are not alone in having bullpen issues. A lot of clubs are. The Dodgers blew another one last night. The Yankees blew another save before coming back to win in extras. Finnegan blew a five-run lead the night before. And on and on. At least Breslow did something to address it. Getting the I.L. contingent back would help also.
  4. I think the Sox improved the bullpen, at least somewhat. How much remains to be seen.
  5. The Yankees scratched Cole from his start against the Phillies tonight due to ( get this) " General body fatigue".
  6. Sims is a decent addition. At least a little better than some of the jabronis the Sox have been using.
  7. Twenty hours to the deadline. I am sure Breslow is working on a couple of possible deals.
  8. Turner was playing for Toronto today in Baltimore. He had a hit. They pulled him out of the game. He might be on his way to Fenway .
  9. Looks like Justin Turner to Seattle.
  10. The trade deadline is an exciting time. But think for a moment how stressful it can be for players and their families. Not knowing where you are going to be in two days. I know they sign up for it, but that doesn't make it any easier.
  11. That's for sure.
  12. As far as relievers go, Tanner Scott is the big prize out there . The Sox are reportedly among the bidders. The question is; are they willing to top the other offers ? We will find out shortly.
  13. The idea that the Sale trade didn't work out but made sense at the time has been beaten to death. Sale is a great pitcher who had a series of injuries but was healthy at the time. Grissom was a decent prospect who was probably not as highly regarded as Marcelo Mayer. The fact that the trade did not work out is not shocking or surprising. It was all about saving some money.
  14. Kenley is one of the best to ever do it. But let's face it, he is getting old. He is not what he once was.
  15. Thirty hours left. The countdown is on. Some good bullpen arms still out there. Pete Fairbanks and Kyle Finnegan would be excellent additions. Tanner Scott would cost more but could be a season changer. Couple of lesser guys, like Michael Kopech. Just waiting for Hendricks, Slaten and Martin to get healthy could take too long.
  16. No drama in this game. Other than a couple of solo homers, just a dismal performance.
  17. Ramirez hasn't pitched a lot of innings this year, so at least he is a relatively fresh arm.
  18. The Rays, just 4 games out of a wild card, are in full seller mode. Just trying to save a few bucks , like the trash franchise that they are.
  19. This is what I am talking about. The Padres just traded for Jason Adam from the Rays. A good, solid bullpen arm. The Phillies got Estevez. The O's got Dominguez. Where are the Sox? I think Finnegan is available from the Nats. Maybe Fairbanks from the Rays. Do something .
  20. We see it again and again. Starters don't go deep in games. Every close game comes down to a battle of the bullpens. And it takes a toll. Many teams' bullpens are worn down. They are all looking to add relievers. Last night the Sox bullpen actually managed to be worse than the Yankee's pen. The reverse of Friday night. The Sox don't need another hitter all that much. Pick up a couple of decent relievers to replace some of the jabronis they have been running out there.
  21. As bad as the Sox bullpen has been, the Yankee pen is worse. (It does seem that a lot of contending teams are dealing with a worn-down bullpen these days) But the Yankees don't have any relievers who can get it done. I was not one bit surprised that the Sox were able to rally last night.
  22. That was very odd. He never took the bat off his shoulder. I know Judge is a competitor, but it looked like he was disgusted and just gave up the at bat.
  23. Sox fans have been disgruntled all year. Yankee fans are thoroughly disgusted with their team. Both sets of fans have become a little spoiled over the years. But it is still a big series starting tonight. I expect a full house at Fenway.
  24. Eflin to the Orioles. Things are heating up.
  25. Interesting trade between two teams that are definitely buyers not sellers. I wonder what the Yankees plans are. Their fans are not happy campers these days.
