  1. If things are done as they should be, this is the manager's decision. Cora should not let it drag out. Take everything into account and make your lineup out the way you think is best. The sooner, the better.
  2. You would be taking away the umpire's main job, main function. Would you then still pay them the same money ?
  3. I think the Sox should make a decision as to who's on third. Dawdling over it just looks like weak, indecisive management.
  4. I think people's reaction to " salacious " news reporting is usually related to whose ox is being gored. We can be either appalled or entertained by it , but it does get our attention either way.
  5. Steph, First off, congratulations on the All Star MVP. Years ago, MLB unfairly banned the height insecure Eddie Gaedel , so they might have a problem with the wiener dog. But times have changed, so it just might be crazy enough to work. As for Sydney Sweeney, her OBP leaves something to be desired, but she would definitely be a positive presence in the clubhouse.
  6. Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our Sox.
  7. If the bottom of the order is due up in the ninth, you will see the best pinch hitters off the bench. Anyone gets on, you are back to the top of the order. Closing ain't easy. Far more pressure than pitching the 7th or 8th. And everyone in the ballpark knows it and feels it.
  8. Devers played third in 2018. The team did pretty good.
  9. If it was Bloom that promised Devers he could stay at third, then it is just further proof that Bloom was in way over his head. He had no business promising a player something like that. It undermines the manager's authority. I think Breslow will be more supportive of Cora in this and other things. And that is how it should be.
  10. I realize that things have changed and it's not like the old days, but I think at some point Cora has to put his foot down and say " I am the skipper here, you play where I assign you to play". Do what is best for the team, not just one guy.
  11. After a thorough and painstaking review of reams of data and all available metrics, I have concluded that it all comes down to this: " Roster construction ". Enjoy the games with this in mind.
  12. As I said before, it is Cora's job to decide where he plays. And Cora should be accountable for the results.
  13. If the organization is operating as it should, it will be strictly up to Cora to make out the lineup card. Who plays, where they play and where they bat. And to be responsible for the results. In the meantime, a tip of the cap to Breslow and his moves. He has done well in identifying what needed to be done and acquiring the proven talent needed for improvement. Not to mention convincing John Henry to open his overstuffed wallet. This team right now is clearly better than the one that Craig inherited. And should be very competitive in the A.L.
  14. Chapman has 335 career saves. 16th most all time. Getting old, but still hits triple digits.
  15. We need a " Yale talk" to baseball fan language dictionary to fully understand Craig.
  16. I didn't necessarily want to keep O'Neill either. I don't think the need for a right-handed bat is as urgent as it's being made out to be. I think that the reason the Sox didn't make the playoffs last year was that the starting pitchers did not go deep enough into games and the bullpen blew way too many leads. I look for improvement in those areas this season.
  17. He is a Yale grad, so you have to make allowances for the gibberish. I think he will do a good job, but I would definitely like to see more of the ballplayer side of him and less of the egghead.
  18. I think Breslow has done well in improving the pitching. That is what we wanted and needed. While it would be good to add some right-handed power like Alonso or Bregman, let's not get desperate about it. Somebody like Laureano is not going to improve this ballclub. It would have been better to keep O'Neill than start looking around for low priced ham and eggers. If the top prospects are as good as they are cracked up to be, I think this team is shaping up pretty well.
  19. Who is the " best" is usually very subjective. Depends on your criteria as well as your personal likes and dislikes. Boras is, without a doubt, the best known and most successful player's agent in the business.
  20. After many, many trips around the Sun, I have alarmingly reached the conclusion that everything is not always on the level.
  21. Baseball sure has changed. We have gone from " Take me out to the ball game" to " Steamer's Splits Projections ". Oofah!!!
  22. I agree with this for the most part. I was not a happy camper since they broke up the championship team and decided to try being competitive while simultaneously cutting spending. And the mostly poor results since then were not surprising or encouraging. But I just think that there is hope for this year's team. I would surely like to see Henry shell out for the talent needed to complete the picture, but I think Breslow is on the right track for success. And I don't lose any sleep over the corner infield defense or some third string catcher.
  23. I think if Cohen was being completely honest ( the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth ) he would just say that "Alonso is not as good as he and his agent think he is. And I am already spending a ton on this team. Screw him."
  24. I think being disgruntled can be habit forming and contagious. We had folks on here ( not necessarily yourself) who were saying they would be happy if the Sox only improved their rotation. That was the biggest thing needed to become a contender. The top priority. Now, they are worried about numerous other things. There is always something to be unhappy about if that is what you want.
