    The Mets are the latest example of how quickly a team can turn around when they have an owner who is willing to do what it takes.

    One of the terminated coaches was ( get this) the " mental skills" coach. Lol. Maybe that was due to the base running blunders ?

    All five of those teams either won their division or a wild card this year. All are still alive in the post season . Their spending is getting results.

    R.I.P. Luis Tiant. I agree that he should be in the Hall of Fame. Some of the voters just look dumb with their supposedly ultra high standards . Among my collection of Red Sox memorabilia is a ball autographed by both Tiant and Jim Rice.

    Yes. That is a good example of it.

    " Sustainability " is just a buzzword to keep the suckers hooked. Of course you need a steady supply of young talent . But you should not have to hit rock bottom for a few years to get the high draft picks to do it. And you should not let your best players get away because you feel you are " not ready" yet. The Sox are/were a big time franchise. They should not be operating this way.

    In the post season the thinking is usually " all hands on deck". I understand that, but I do think it leads to some over managing. And I am seeing quite a bit of that so far.

    John Henry came in like gangbusters. Determined to do what was necessary to compete with Steinbrenner and the Yankees. It worked. At some point, he decided that he was spending too much on the Red Sox . He wanted to try and do things differently. So far, that hasn't worked. That is where we are today.

    All four Division Series are tied at a game apiece. There seems to be very little interest on here. That's not too good. Are even serious fans of baseball losing interest in the game?

    If you are a big-time franchise, you do what is necessary to keep up with the top teams. That includes spending the money to retain your stars. You don't lose a Mookie Betts. At some point, John Henry thought he could emulate the Rays and build a contender without spending big. That was the reason for bringing in Bloom. We are still struggling with the effects and the fallout from that. Whether or not Henry told Bloom to trade Mookie does not matter now. Hopefully, the Sox can get back on top before too much longer.

    Most would agree that the Sox have a perennial need for pitching. But any time someone suggests that they focus more on drafting good college pitchers, they are shouted down with the old " best player available " line. Followed by stating that these types can always be traded for pitching at a later date. Well, here we are.

    I don't think we will ever know the exact circumstances of the Mookie trade. Did John Henry order Bloom to trade Mookie or did he just tell him to cut costs , and Bloom decided that was how to do it ? Henry would know the answer, but he is not talking. Also, I don't recall even a rumor in 2019 that Dombrowski was tying to trade Mookie. That is something that has only been claimed lately. I don't know that there is any evidence of it.

    A lot will depend on their bullpen. They definitely can score runs.

    The Mets scored four runs in the ninth off of Devin Williams to come back from the brink and eliminate the Brewers.

    A championship game is a championship game, no matter what you call it or how much hype is involved. There were great and memorable NFL championship games before the AFL existed. " Super Bowl" is just a catchy name designed to pull in the marginal fans. And it sure did that.

    More clarity is needed as to what constitutes a blown save. Relievers can get a blown save when they are not even in a save situation. If you had a one run lead in the fifth inning and gave up the tying run, is that actually a blown save ? Is there any such thing as a blown hold ? Can blown saves happen in any inning ? I don't think that is the case.

    Looks like the Yankees may have gotten a break with the wild card series results. The Orioles and Astros were probably their toughest possible opponents. Both are now out.

    When signing pitchers, you need some good judgment and a whole lot of luck. It seems to me that they are breaking down at a higher rate than ever before.

    As a baseball fan, I will watch the games. I don't have any particular preference as to who wins.
