  1. They did have him for almost 2 months. They started off 29-20 before he got hurt, which is good, but not amazing. He hadn't heated up yet so that's probably why there hasn't been much of a drop off since his absence (he finished this season hitting .250 with a .716 OPS).
  2. They can weather Stanton going down. It would actually give them an opportunity to call up Dominguez. If one of Judge or Soto went down the offense would take a huge dip, and they'd go from great (69% win pct) to just good (50-60% win pct), assuming the pitching keeps performing.
  3. Yanks lead the league in double plays. Two more tonight with bases loaded. Also 11 guys LOB. That'll do it
  4. Athletes do tend to be dumber than average. But yes that would be very dumb.
  5. While bad for the Dodgers, the schadenfreude from all other fan bases is quite high. Would be wild if they can prove that Ohtani was actually the one gambling and his friend was just a scapegoat.
  6. For anyone trying to make sense of the Ohtani thing: https://cupofcoffee.beehiiv.com/p/cup-coffee-extra-breaking-shohei-ohtaniippei-mizuhara-story
  7. For anyone interested in the Yankees fan site's take on the Sox's 2024: https://www.pinstripealley.com/2024/2/29/24084685/mlb-season-preview-2024-boston-red-sox-devers-yoshida-story-casas-giolito-jansen
  8. Stroman is probably more of a #4 starter than a 2 at this point in his career. Still better than what we had, but if he's our second best pitcher this season then things have probably gone wrong.
  9. Monty will be an overpay wherever he goes, but he's probably the best option available since it won't deplete the farm and he has the track record of being able to pitch in NY.
  10. He's a POS. I heard it from my cousin who's friend adopted their dog from their neighbor's kid's cousin. No way the dog is wrong.
  11. The Soto signing brings a lot of hope for this year, but it's easy to forget that 7 out of 9 of our lineup spots last year were below average/black holes (Judge and Torres the only exclusions). If Rizzo still sucks because of his concussion, and Stanton hits .200, and Volpe/Peraza/Wells don't develop, and Lemahieu's 2nd half surge was just a fluke, then adding Soto is only going to matter so much.
  12. You sure these players are all in the trade? Have yet to see anything finalized.
  13. Half the players taken in the Rule 5 draft came from either the Yanks or Red Sox.
  14. I think Brito could be a really good multi-inning reliever. He's a lot like King was a few years ago. Began as a starter but couldn't really harness his stuff, got sent to the bullpen and was able to use his starter's arsenal to be be really effective over few inning bursts. Personally I'd rather keep Brito over Vazquez.
  15. I don't think it's guaranteed that Dominguez takes over as soon as he is healthy. The guy has barely played above AA. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him until Sep call ups
  16. It's cool to see random teams like Texas and Arizona make the World Series, but it also makes that grueling 162 game season kinda pointless if a team can slip in with 84 wins and win it all. Heck the Yanks had 82 wins this season, who knows what they could've done in the postseason! (Probably score 1 total run in 2 games)
  17. f*** the Asteroids
  18. I guess ownership felt that 2023 was not a rebuild year?
  19. Meaningless September baseball is the worst
  20. Jesus Montero also looked this good to start his career. I've learned to wait until they play their first full season before declaring someone a star. But definitely a promising start for him.
  21. Agreed on needing to fill multiple positions. Was only talking about Rizzo though. I think he can OPS .770+ because he surpassed it last year, and also this year until he got concussed. The reduction of shifts has helped him, and he also still plays good defense (when playing healthy).
  22. Before the game where he got concussed by Tatis he was hitting .303/.376/.507 with 11 HRs and 31 RBIs over 52 games. After that game he hit .176 with only one HR until hitting the IL in early August. I don't think he's a .300 hitter anymore even without the concussion, but I don't think it's a stretch to say he's average or above average when his brain isn't damaged.
  23. I'd say Volpe has netted out to being average this year, maybe slightly better than average factoring in defense. It's impossible to predict how he will play next year but based on his age I think he'll be at least the same as 2nd half of this season or better. And yeah it's hard to imagine the offense being good next season unless they sign/trade for multiple players (LF/CF/C/3B) or one of the youngsters steps up.
  24. By solid I assume you mean league average or better. Aside from who you highlighted in red, I'd include Volpe/Rizzo(hopefully he'll be over his concussion symptoms by next year)/Cortes/Schmidt (has improved a lot since the start of the season) and all five of the bullpen arms you listed.
  25. Started off very slow but has been steadily improving. He has a 107 OPS+ since June 1st which isn't amazing but still good for a rookie. And thanks to his defense he's at 3.6 WAR for the season. Now we just need 6 more players to fill out our lineup.
