  1. Yanks still have a top 10 farm system even with a bunch of the top guys graduating to the big leagues. But with that said, there's probably only 2 or 3 players who could headline a package for a valuable starter. Frazier (who technically isn't a prospect anymore) and Sheffield are the two. And maybe Florial, but he's far away from the bigs and injured. Regarding Chance Adams, it's looking like last year was the time to sell high on him. He won't fetch much now so it's probably best for the Yanks to hang onto him and let him try to rebuild his value.
  2. Also signed Luis Severino's younger brother. That would be something if he developed into a big leaguer.
  3. It was a red Sox lovefest (and rightfully so). I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have liked the broadcast if they were covering Friday's game.
  4. Bird must have read this thread before the game
  5. Lineups: Yankees 1. Aaron Hicks (S) CF 2. Aaron Judge ® RF 3. Giancarlo Stanton ® DH 4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS 5. Gleyber Torres ® 2B 6. Miguel Andujar ® 3B 7. Greg Bird (L) 1B 8. Austin Romine ® C 9. Brett Gardner (L) LF Red Sox 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. J.D. Martinez ® DH 4. Steve Pearce ® 1B 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 7. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 8. Christian Vazquez ® C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF Pearce slotting into the cleanup spot is certainly interesting.
  6. Agreed. You never know which Sonny Gray will show up. But at home, it's primarily been the s***** version of himself: Home: (7 starts, 2-2, 7.22 ERA, 1.87 WHIP, 6.7 K/9) Away: (8 starts, 3-3, 3.28 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 9.3 K/9) The only positive I can think of is that he's been better in June (although almost all of those starts were on the road): (5 June starts, 2-1, 3.23 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 8.5 K/9)
  7. Pearce is one of those mediocre players who annoyingly plays a lot better against the Yankees. Career: .255/.322/.443/.775 Career vs Yankees: .281/.376/.521/.897 (194 PAs) Shrewd move Boston.
  8. 7 weeks sure did fly by. Tonight E-Rod (9-2, 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 10.1 K/9) vs. Sabathia (4-3, 3.18 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 7.2 K/9) Saturday Chris Sale (7-4, 2.56 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 12.6 K/9) vs. Sonny Gray (5-5, 4.93 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 8.2 K/9) Sunday David Price (9-5, 3.66 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 8.6 K/9) vs. Luis Severino (12-2, 2.10 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 10.6 K/9) Tonight is a pretty important one to take for the Yanks because tomorrow's matchup does not look so great.
  9. Had Bird come back in the 2nd half of last season and sucked I would agree with you. But we only need to look back to after the 2017 ASB (when Bird was finally playing without any injury) to see Bird's upside: Aug - Oct 2017: .253/.316/.575/.891 I'm not advocating Bird as the next great Yankee. But you don't have to look THAT hard to see that he could be end up as a good player.
  10. None of those things negate what I said. Despite his s***** offensive production the Red Sox continued to run JBJ out there because there was an expectation that he'd improve at the plate (and he has lately). If all they were looking for is a defensive CF then you can bet your ass they'd find someone who didn't cost $6M. If the comparison is lost on you then oh well.
  11. They're just giving Bird the JBJ treatment. Let him keep sucking until he stops sucking.
  12. Not sure I agree with that. We could use one starter.. And it's not a great need since you only need 4 starters in the playoffs. The Sox could use an upgraded 2b, C, and reliever. Both teams would be on pace to win 100+ games with whatever perceived holes their rosters have, so talk of either team NEEDING to make a trade is a little overblown.
  13. 2-4, 1 HR, 1 BB. If he continues at this pace (which he will because he's on the Yankees) he'll hit .500/.600/1.250 with 87HRs, 174 Rs, and 87 RBIs over the next 87 games. That would make him the third best hitter on the team.
  14. I feel bad for Votto. Or as bad as you can feel for a guy making $112M over the next 5 years.
  15. Also this is a pretty interesting stat: Yankees Bullpen Last 18 Games (since June 5): Chasen Shreve: 6.1 IP, 5 R, 3 HR Rest of team: 54 IP, 0 R, 0 HR Seems like a DFA is in order. The guy is a LOOGY with a reverse split. So why bother keeping him around? I'd much rather have Carroll up or even keep Lasagna in the bullpen once Tanaka gets back.
  16. What a s***** weekend. Glad I didn't have the opportunity to watch any baseball. And that ball that Frazier hit off of a speaker was horse s***. Maybe place the speakers somewhere outside of fair territory???
  17. Brandon Drury for Groome and Mata. Cashman has authorized me to offer this trade.
  18. Maybe the Sox can swing a deal for Starlin Castro. Not sure how they'd work it out though if they're trying to keep their spending below whatever that threshold is.
  19. World Series Wins Past 5 Years: Red Sox 1 Yankees 0 Past 10 Years: Red Sox 1 Yankees 1 Past 15 Years: Red Sox 3 Yankees 1 Past 20 Years: Red Sox 3 Yankees 4 We all live in the past. Some just live further in the past than others.
  20. It's not even the ASB yet and the Yanks/Sox have a 15 game lead over the third place team. Pretty crazy.
  21. Maybe now some team can get him at a discount. He'll only cost $32M/year.
  22. I think Drury will be packaged for a pitcher before the deadline. The Yankees are constantly looking for power lefties so I can't see them moving on from Didi in his prime.
  23. He's still an athlete. Should be able to run 90 feet without blowing out both hammies.
  24. Agreed. I get why they changed it (so more teams actually had something to play for in September), but as is both Boston and NY could win 100+ games and one of them will have to go to a sudden death game while a team like Cleveland will get rewarded for winning a weak division with 85 wins. Not ideal. Anything can happen in one game and let's say Boston/NY loses that game - is the MLB playoffs better overall with one of the top teams not participating? That's an emphatic no.
  25. Not really. It kind of pisses me off that the Sox are still playing so well.
