  1. Might wanna slow down there friend. I'm pretty sure the Sox had an awesome run to start the year, only to relinquish their commanding division lead to the superior team in the division. This is just the second act
  2. I'd be fine if they added someone like Eovaldi who can be a #4 starter. Probably wouldn't cost much and at this point anyone is an upgrade over Sonny. I don't think the need for a starter is that great unless there is a serious injury to one of our top three. Sheffield can always be called up in the second half to be the 5th starter (unless we trade him for Machado). And speaking of which, the O's just said they want Sheffield in any Yankees deal for Machado. Seems like a steep price for half a year of a position player where we already have a solid starter. If Cash does feel inclined to pull off some huge trade and wipe out our farm, I hope it's for Snell or MadBum.
  3. Lots of season left. Depending on who is hot and who is cold, 3 games could be made up in a week.
  4. I can agree to that. But only because Baltimore is in the East and they are historically bad (except against the Yankees). The Rays and Jays are collectively 14-13 versus the A's, Angels, and Rangers.
  5. MLB Records Versus Teams with Losing Records 1. Astros 32-9 (.780) 2. Athletics 29-9 (.763) 3. Red Sox 31-10 (.756) 4. Mariners 27-11 (.711) ... 6. Angels 25-12 (.676) ... 14. Yankees 25-14 (.641) 4 of the top 6 teams in baseball at beating bad opponents are in the AL West. So I guess if her point is that the AL west is better overall because it is better at beating crappy opponents, then she's right. The West's bad teams are better than the East's bad teams.. although I think Tampa and Toronto are pretty equal to Oakland and LAA.
  6. MLB Records Versus Teams with Winning Records 1. Yankees 34-16 (.680) 2. Red Sox 32-19 (.627) 3. Mariners 30-23 (.566) 4. Astros 29-23 (.558) 5. Braves 27-24 (.529) AL East rules
  7. I'm sure Cashman asked about him as part of his due diligence as GM. But seems highly unlikely that he lands him.
  8. I'm generally not one to criticize managers since I feel players determine 98% of every game. But Boone really flubbed this one. Lucky for him and Neil Walker there's another game in an hour. They can't possibly lose 2 games to Baltimore.. I hope.
  9. As a tanned white person I find that term offensive. I'm at least Nilla Wafer.
  10. Luckily the Yankees don't have to play the Yankees otherwise it would be a lot harder
  11. Ideal victory would be 4 game sweep of the Sox in the ALCS. But I'd still find joy if they lost in the WC.
  12. Don't know what to think of Gray. Guy has a ton of talent but those were 2 of the worst starts I've seen in a long time. I mean he had nothing. Everything getting hammered as if they brought someone in from the stands to pitch. How long do the Yankees continue to start him in the hope that he'll rebound and when is the point where they say enough is enough?
  13. Torres to the 10 day DL
  14. Pedro did admit that he would've liked to pitch for the Yankees. I believe we have turned him to the dark side.
  15. Yankees had tons of chances to win that game. 0-12 with RISP. Even if they go 2-12 which is s***, they win. Likely game winning double bouncing into the stands just tells me that it wasn't our night.
  16. Yanks still have a top 10 farm system even with a bunch of the top guys graduating to the big leagues. But with that said, there's probably only 2 or 3 players who could headline a package for a valuable starter. Frazier (who technically isn't a prospect anymore) and Sheffield are the two. And maybe Florial, but he's far away from the bigs and injured. Regarding Chance Adams, it's looking like last year was the time to sell high on him. He won't fetch much now so it's probably best for the Yanks to hang onto him and let him try to rebuild his value.
  17. Also signed Luis Severino's younger brother. That would be something if he developed into a big leaguer.
  18. It was a red Sox lovefest (and rightfully so). I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have liked the broadcast if they were covering Friday's game.
  19. Bird must have read this thread before the game
  20. Lineups: Yankees 1. Aaron Hicks (S) CF 2. Aaron Judge ® RF 3. Giancarlo Stanton ® DH 4. Didi Gregorius (L) SS 5. Gleyber Torres ® 2B 6. Miguel Andujar ® 3B 7. Greg Bird (L) 1B 8. Austin Romine ® C 9. Brett Gardner (L) LF Red Sox 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. J.D. Martinez ® DH 4. Steve Pearce ® 1B 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 7. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 8. Christian Vazquez ® C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF Pearce slotting into the cleanup spot is certainly interesting.
  21. Agreed. You never know which Sonny Gray will show up. But at home, it's primarily been the s***** version of himself: Home: (7 starts, 2-2, 7.22 ERA, 1.87 WHIP, 6.7 K/9) Away: (8 starts, 3-3, 3.28 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 9.3 K/9) The only positive I can think of is that he's been better in June (although almost all of those starts were on the road): (5 June starts, 2-1, 3.23 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 8.5 K/9)
  22. Pearce is one of those mediocre players who annoyingly plays a lot better against the Yankees. Career: .255/.322/.443/.775 Career vs Yankees: .281/.376/.521/.897 (194 PAs) Shrewd move Boston.
  23. 7 weeks sure did fly by. Tonight E-Rod (9-2, 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 10.1 K/9) vs. Sabathia (4-3, 3.18 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 7.2 K/9) Saturday Chris Sale (7-4, 2.56 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 12.6 K/9) vs. Sonny Gray (5-5, 4.93 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 8.2 K/9) Sunday David Price (9-5, 3.66 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 8.6 K/9) vs. Luis Severino (12-2, 2.10 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 10.6 K/9) Tonight is a pretty important one to take for the Yanks because tomorrow's matchup does not look so great.
  24. Had Bird come back in the 2nd half of last season and sucked I would agree with you. But we only need to look back to after the 2017 ASB (when Bird was finally playing without any injury) to see Bird's upside: Aug - Oct 2017: .253/.316/.575/.891 I'm not advocating Bird as the next great Yankee. But you don't have to look THAT hard to see that he could be end up as a good player.
  25. None of those things negate what I said. Despite his s***** offensive production the Red Sox continued to run JBJ out there because there was an expectation that he'd improve at the plate (and he has lately). If all they were looking for is a defensive CF then you can bet your ass they'd find someone who didn't cost $6M. If the comparison is lost on you then oh well.
