  1. Weird that it went from his shoulder hurting to a broken rib. Ribs typically don't need surgery, and usually take at least a month to heal on their own. But since this supposedly happened in September who knows how far along in the healing process he is. This season is really annoying and it hasn't even started.
  2. I would've liked the Yanks to take a flyer on him. But I imagine Boston was the only team to outright offer him a major league deal, which makes sense in their case with Sale down and a couple of holes in the rotation.
  3. I'd say somewhere around 87-88 wins. Even though they only had 84 last year with a more complete team, I think they underperformed quite a bit. Plus there's plenty of tanking teams in baseball that should boost everyone's records by a handful of games.
  4. So I didn't pay in time to join this last season. BUT if y'all are planning to do this again for 2020 I'd be interested in joining and paying on time.
  5. Our extensions aren't work out so far
  6. Pablo Sandoval
  7. Nice, at this rate we'll be seeing Chad Bettis starting on Opening Day.
  8. Still better than what Bloomberg is doing through his influencers https://www.businessinsider.com/bloomberg-2020-campaign-instagram-memes-tank-sinatra-f***-jerry-2020-2
  9. Carlos Correa: "It was definitely an advantage. I’m not gonna lie to you. Knowing what was coming. I think you get a slight edge. And that's why people got suspended and people got fired because this is not right." Also Carlos Correa: "When you analyze the games, we won fair and square. We earned that championship." Also Correa in response to Bellinger saying the Astros probably cheated the last three years: "what doesn't sit well with me is when you say false statements. If you don't know the facts. If you're not informed. This is America. You can say whatever you want. But Cody Bellinger's job is to look for information. Get informed. Know the facts, for sure, before he stands in front of cameras to talk about other players. You should get informed. You should be informed before you talk about other players. If you don't know the facts, then you've got to shut the f--k up." What an asshat. Admits to cheating and that it gave them an advantage, but also says they won the World Series fair and square. And he says that false statements don't sit well with him, but I guess blatant cheating is fine.
  10. BR released their annual farm rankings along with each team's top 10 prospects. Boston moved up to 26th (they were 30th last year I believe) with Jeter Downs being listed as their #1 prospect (ranked #68 in MLB). Casas is 2nd (#81 in MLB). If Verdugo was still eligible the Sox would probably be closer to 22nd-24th. 1. SS Jeter Downs 2. 3B Triston Casas 3. RHP Bryan Mata 4. 3B Bobby Dalbec 5. RHP Noah Song 6. OF Jarren Duran 7. OF Gilberto Jimenez 8. RHP Tanner Houck 9. RHP Thad Ward 10. LHP Jay Groome
  11. I'm going to enjoy watching Andy Dalton lead the Pats in 2020.
  12. Whoa good call bkz !
  13. Marwin Gonzalez was a bum before that 2017 season, and then all of a sudden he had a .907 OPS. An apology is nice but the only person it really benefits is himself, now he can go to sleep with his WS ring on and not feel bad about it. Watch every other member of that team come out of the woodwork this week to issue a forced apology.
  14. Hinch was asked about whether the Astros players wore buzzers to aid with sign stealing during his MLB network interview the other day. His response: "Well the commissioner -- we got investigated for three months -- the commissioner’s office did as thorough an investigation as anyone could imagine, as possible. I mean, I know you mentioned the emails, and the texts, and the messages, and I believe them." Umm, okay. To me that sounds like "I don't want to say no in case we get caught and then I look even worse, but I don't want to say yes because they might not actually find out."
  15. Wow what a great idea (in response to the article). And how about a play-in tournament between the bottom of the league for the 7th spot in the playoffs??? That would make the MLB even more money!... errr, I mean, be super fun!
  16. Mike Axisa posted his top prospects list going into the season. It is super detailed but behind a paywall ($3/month for his blog) so I won't post everything, but here are his top 30: 1. Jasson Dominguez OF (expected starting level: Instructional League) 2. Deivi Garcia SP (AAA) 3. Clarke Schmidt SP (AAA) 4. Roansy Contreras SP (High A) 5. Luis Medina SP (High A) 6. Luis Gil SP (AA) 7. Albert Abreu SP (AAA) 8. Estevan Florial OF (AA) 9. Everson Pereira OF (Short Season) 10. Kevin Alacantra OF (Extended Spring Training) 11. Anthony Volpe SS (Short Season) 12. Mike King SP (AAA) 13. Antonio Cabello OF (Short Season) 14. Thairo Estrada UTL (AAA) 15. Nick Nelson SP (AAA) 16. Miguel Yajure SP (AA) 17. Alex Vizcaino SP (High A) 18. Ryder Green OF (Short Season) 19. Anthony Seigler C (Low A) 20. Yoendrys Gomez SP (Low A) 21. Oswaldo Peraza SS (Low A) 22. TJ Sikkema SP (High A) 23. Alex Vargas SS (Short Season) 24. Raimfer Salinas OF (Short Season) 25. Matt Sauer SP (Low A) 26. Josh Breaux C (High A) 27. Ezequiel Duran 2B (Low A) 28. Josh Smith SS (High A) 29. Canaan Smith OF (High A) 30. Josh Stowers OF (High A) My overall takeaway is that we have a lot of high ceiling pitching talent at all levels. As for non-pitchers, we don't really have anybody close to being ready for a call up. Estrada is still technically a prospect but he's just a utility guy like Tyler Wade. Florial is on the 40 man roster but I can't see him getting called up this year. And our infield crop is really weak even at the lower levels. But that's to be expected when you have a strong MLB club. Overall I think the system is setup to produce some good players down the line and that our current crop of higher level pitchers could produce a couple of solid contributors.
  17. True he does eat innings and is durable. Also he had the same number of quality starts as James Paxton (over only 3 more starts) which I found hard to believe. But the overall results were horrible because he had so many non-competitive games. Porcello: 174.1 IP, 5.52 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 (down from 8.9 the prior year), 10 starts allowing 5+ ER JA Happ, who I thought was pretty horrible last year, even performed better: 161.1 IP, 4.91 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 6 starts allowing 5+ ER. If it weren't for injuries I wouldn't even want him starting.
  18. Well to be fair, just removing 2019 Porcello from the rotation should be an upgrade this season.
  19. I think the Jays will be competitive this year. My guess is they'll finish around .500 or slightly better. The O's on the other hand will probably lose 120 games. My guess for the Yankees' first 60 is 36-24.
  20. C'mon man you gotta at least pretend that you think the Sox will win the division
  21. I assume the nickname "El Guapo" is ironic
  22. Not ideal since German is also gonna miss the first couple of months. But maybe we'll get an extended look at Deivi or Schmidt which would be cool.
  23. Now that the Sox will have spending money, who are the big free agents next offseason?
  24. Would be something if Bloom turns around now and makes a trade to bring in Arenado. It could be something similar to the Stanton trade, the Rockies would only eat like 10% of his contract but then wouldn't require much in return prospect-wise.
  25. He'd have to be 1 or 2. Nobody outside of Casas is a consensus top 100 prospect in baseball, whereas Gatorade is.
