  1. Mike Axisa posted his top prospects list going into the season. It is super detailed but behind a paywall ($3/month for his blog) so I won't post everything, but here are his top 30: 1. Jasson Dominguez OF (expected starting level: Instructional League) 2. Deivi Garcia SP (AAA) 3. Clarke Schmidt SP (AAA) 4. Roansy Contreras SP (High A) 5. Luis Medina SP (High A) 6. Luis Gil SP (AA) 7. Albert Abreu SP (AAA) 8. Estevan Florial OF (AA) 9. Everson Pereira OF (Short Season) 10. Kevin Alacantra OF (Extended Spring Training) 11. Anthony Volpe SS (Short Season) 12. Mike King SP (AAA) 13. Antonio Cabello OF (Short Season) 14. Thairo Estrada UTL (AAA) 15. Nick Nelson SP (AAA) 16. Miguel Yajure SP (AA) 17. Alex Vizcaino SP (High A) 18. Ryder Green OF (Short Season) 19. Anthony Seigler C (Low A) 20. Yoendrys Gomez SP (Low A) 21. Oswaldo Peraza SS (Low A) 22. TJ Sikkema SP (High A) 23. Alex Vargas SS (Short Season) 24. Raimfer Salinas OF (Short Season) 25. Matt Sauer SP (Low A) 26. Josh Breaux C (High A) 27. Ezequiel Duran 2B (Low A) 28. Josh Smith SS (High A) 29. Canaan Smith OF (High A) 30. Josh Stowers OF (High A) My overall takeaway is that we have a lot of high ceiling pitching talent at all levels. As for non-pitchers, we don't really have anybody close to being ready for a call up. Estrada is still technically a prospect but he's just a utility guy like Tyler Wade. Florial is on the 40 man roster but I can't see him getting called up this year. And our infield crop is really weak even at the lower levels. But that's to be expected when you have a strong MLB club. Overall I think the system is setup to produce some good players down the line and that our current crop of higher level pitchers could produce a couple of solid contributors.
  2. True he does eat innings and is durable. Also he had the same number of quality starts as James Paxton (over only 3 more starts) which I found hard to believe. But the overall results were horrible because he had so many non-competitive games. Porcello: 174.1 IP, 5.52 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 (down from 8.9 the prior year), 10 starts allowing 5+ ER JA Happ, who I thought was pretty horrible last year, even performed better: 161.1 IP, 4.91 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 6 starts allowing 5+ ER. If it weren't for injuries I wouldn't even want him starting.
  3. Well to be fair, just removing 2019 Porcello from the rotation should be an upgrade this season.
  4. I think the Jays will be competitive this year. My guess is they'll finish around .500 or slightly better. The O's on the other hand will probably lose 120 games. My guess for the Yankees' first 60 is 36-24.
  5. C'mon man you gotta at least pretend that you think the Sox will win the division
  6. I assume the nickname "El Guapo" is ironic
  7. Not ideal since German is also gonna miss the first couple of months. But maybe we'll get an extended look at Deivi or Schmidt which would be cool.
  8. Now that the Sox will have spending money, who are the big free agents next offseason?
  9. Would be something if Bloom turns around now and makes a trade to bring in Arenado. It could be something similar to the Stanton trade, the Rockies would only eat like 10% of his contract but then wouldn't require much in return prospect-wise.
  10. He'd have to be 1 or 2. Nobody outside of Casas is a consensus top 100 prospect in baseball, whereas Gatorade is.
  11. I dunno about that. Mookie going to a WS contender is probably more exciting for the rest of baseball.
  12. Good trade for Boston in the long term. Sucks for fans who were hoping for a bounce back 2020 though.
  13. What ever happened to Hensley Meulens? He was a hot candidate a couple of years ago and was seriously considered by the Yanks. He's a bench coach for the Mets now, he might make sense. But then again, why did the Mets not hire him when they fired Beltran.
  14. Going into 2019 there weren't any real reasons to believe the Sox wouldn't be good. They had almost the same exact roster as 2018, and even if you expected a little regression they were still the preseason favorites. There was zero chance that Betts would have been traded since the 2019 team looked like another WS contender.
  15. I'd also like to see Siegler stay healthy. His prospect shine has sure faded pretty quickly.
  16. Whereas video game playing rates are up to 106%
  17. Hey someone was saying they needed at least a 4 WAR player in return and he put up 2.6 in half a season. So we might actually have to cut it down to 10 pounds of steaks.
  18. Betts for Mike Tauchman and 20 pounds of Grade A NY strip steak. Final offer!
  19. Seeing Brady in another uniform is going to be weird. My top guesses: 1. Chargers 2. Titans 3. Bears 4. Steelers 5. Redskins
  20. Not sure how much they'd need to get under the LT, but Margot would make JBJ and his $11M expendable.
  21. Trading Betts would clear $27M, and if the Padres ate half of Myers' deal then the Sox would only be paying him about $10M, a net savings of about $14M (when you factor in the other players in the deal). I think they could still do it even with Moreland's potential $5M on the books.
  22. From what I was reading the other day I thought the Padres were the front runners in a trade. One proposal that I thought was interesting had Wil Myers coming to the Sox with SD eating some of his salary, along with some MLB guys who just graduated off SD's top prospect list (Lucchesi, Margot, Naylor). I'm sure y'all probably feel you could get more than that for Mookie though.
  23. Maybe they'll bring in several manager candidates for spring training and select their favorite one at the end. I mean if it works for the players..
  24. But the logic behind that is kind of dumb. The guys who didn't vote for Babe or Griffey or Nolan were obviously idiots. So because they were idiots, now current voters have to vote in the same manner? Doesn't make sense to me.
  25. My dad was a big fan of hers and nicknamed her Hotdog Girl. I think she was replaced several years ago by younger hotdog girls.
