  1. Matt Harvey has done nothing but throwing meatballs over the heart of the plate. Results through 5 innings? One single. So much for the O's pitching jump starting the offense. Maybe the lineup would have more luck against the alternate site team.
  2. Some bad luck for Taillon in the 4th. Opened the inning with a bloop single, solid single, ground ball single, then wind aided HR. After that he struck out 2 out of the next 3. He was only at 80 pitches and could have probably came out for the 5th but Boone decided against it. Of course he went to Nick Nelson in a one run game who then made it a four run game. Oh well. Hopefully they can make the O's look like the O's these next several games.
  3. I wouldn't say they're on fire, but the past several games the pitching has been good and the offense/defense has been mediocre rather than horrendous. The offense still looks out of whack, but it's easier to overlook after winning.
  4. The only way for Stanton to get out of his slump is to play. I'd maybe stick him in the outfield and see if that gets him going. This would be my lineup for today (assuming Gio is back): 1. LeMahieu 2B 2. Judge RF 3. Urshela 3B 4. Stanton LF 5. Ford 1B 6. Torres SS 7. Hicks CF 8. Higashioka C 9. Sanchez DH
  5. Another day another clown show. Basically 3 errors in the first inning (though home scorers gave their guys 2 hits) leads to 3 runs. Maybe if the Yankees had an extra 27 at bats they could score 3 runs and tie it up.
  6. I mean if we're gonna point to coaches caught up in cheating, the Boston offense sure looks a lot better with Cora back. He did have a whole year off to think of techniques more advanced than garbage cans and buzzers.
  7. The fact that Boston is playing so well right now while we're in the gutter is definitely an extra kick in the nuts. It's infuriating. A good amount of the question marks coming into the season for the Sox have been positive thus far (E-Rod coming back healthy and playing well, good version of Nate, Pivetta playing better than his career numbers, scrap heap relievers like Valdez/Andriese/Whitlock pitching great, Martinez returning to MVP form). The offense was expected to be good and it has been very good thus far, but in my mind I thought Boston had one of the worst rotations and bullpens in baseball coming into the year. Instead they've been pretty good. If they can some how keep it up then they'll be AL contenders. But again it's only April so we'll see how things unfold.
  8. I voted no just because you posted this in the Yankees section
  9. The short and ineffective starts by Taillon/Kluber/German have been manageable because of the bullpen, but I agree that cannot be a long term trend without burning out our top BP arms. Kluber and Taillion are both still building back up (please stop me if I'm still saying this in June), and even if you believe they're duds there's no way they're going to continue pitching to a combined 8 ERA. Really the problem is that 75% of the roster is severely underperforming right now, regardless of position.
  10. Right, but what I'm saying is that though pitching and defense have been problems, the main problem is the offense. The Yankees averaged 5.39 runs/gm last year and 5.77 the season before, with largely the same offensive pieces. So far this year it's 3.67. No one expected the Yankees rotation or defense to be top of the league, but the expectation was that the offense would score so many runs that those deficiencies would be covered up.
  11. The starters outside of Cole have been bad, but overall the pitching has been good enough to win many games. Yankees still have a 3.60 team ERA (8th best in MLB) and have held their opponent to 4 runs or less in 10 out of 15 games. The offense just isn't getting it done.
  12. It's still too early to start making drastic changes. The main problem is the offense, and there's too many good hitters on the team for them to continue batting .210 collectively with like a .340 slugging %. If somehow this continues into May though, then I think Boone and Thames should be on the hot seat.
  13. Offense is trash currently. Last in MLB in slugging %. Any other problems the team has right now are insignificant compared to this. It will correct itself eventually but it sure is ugly right now.
  14. Pretty sure he was going to be released, but this way he saves face.
  15. Jay Bruce retiring after today's game. Joy!
  16. I think Frazier's defense is average. Last year he played the position well and the year before he played terribly. He attributed his play that season to lingering effects from his concussion and you could see last year (also this year) that he looks more comfortable. Maybe he could develop into an above average OF with more playing time. He has a strong arm and has good speed, just needs to get better reads on the ball off the bat.
  17. Supposedly Boone went off on the team after yesterday's loss. We'll see if they respond this afternoon.
  18. We have on base percentage as a stat, so it counts somewhat.
  19. The Yankees put it all together tonight. Great offense (1-18 (H-ABs) through 6 innings against the mighty Michael Wacha), amazing pitching (8 runs over 6 innings versus Arozarena & a bunch of scrubs), and superb defense (3 errors plus a bunch of infield singles that could have been outs). I guess things can only get better. Unless we get no-hit tomorrow versus Glasnow.
  20. The only real minor league depth the Yanks have is in their starting pitching. Garcia/Schmidt/King are all young with upside. On the position player side, Andujar is the only guy they could call up who would probably have any impact. But he's hurt anyway, and hasn't played consistently in over two years. The OF depth is pretty good on the ML level with Judge/Hicks/Frazier/Gardner/Tauchman but the IF depth is trash. Wade is a glove only guy, Ford played well in 2019 but I guess mgmt thinks it was a fluke otherwise he'd be playing first over Bruce and his .118 batting average, and yeah that's pretty much it. They traded Estrada last week to make room for Odor, who is older, less versatile, and probably a worse hitter. But at least he's left handed!
  21. Visually I think snow games are the best to watch. If only runners could still barrel into catchers at home plate, then that would really satisfy my itch for anything football related.
  22. Yanks actually have the 9th fewest K's in baseball so far. I read that a big part of the problem with their offense so far is the inordinate amount of ground balls they're hitting - 48% of balls in play are ground balls (3rd highest in MLB, and they averaged 43% the last couple of years) and they also lead the league in double plays (15 GIDPs in 12 games).
  23. That's what I've been thinking. Ford at least showed some ability in his one full season in 2019, is left handed (which is apparently the only reason we signed Bruce), is still relatively young, and is an actual first basemen. Bruce has been below replacement level for like the last 4 years.
  24. Still not his worst start of the season
  25. Like the actual Red Sox, your team will fall down to earth soon enough
