  1. My approach would be to maximize Mookie's presence on the roster for next two years. I'm concerned about what Boras will demand on behalf of Xander. I'm interested in watching some of our younger players develop. Chavis, Dalbec and Chatam. Hernandez, Feltman, Shawaryn and Lakin.
  2. Meet the two time Spring Training Silver Slugger Award Winner.....Sam Travis. Any f***ing questions?
  3. This is Sox manager talking. Yet the smart people on this board doesn't think he'll be ready this year. They should apply for the job. Always pay attention to what Cora and DD says. There's never a misdirection from DD.
  4. If you have the 'stuff' and can throw strikes, no need to wait. Especially when the parent club is in need of bullpen help. He's a college kid. He's not a high school grad. What is his ceiling and how close to it is he?
  5. With both Holt and Nunez becoming fee agents next year, Lin is someone that can take over one of the utility roles.
  6. 3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strike outs.....my hope is he pitches in majors as a reliever this year and stretch him out to start next year.....mark my words, that's what the Sox will do.
  7. Some thought he may pitch in the major last year.....yeah, pretty optimistic. Line on him is that Sox shouldn't waste any more pitches than you have to in the minors. He is what he is, what he will ever be.
  8. According to my calculation, we can start bringing up first year players on April 11th and not get their full year service time. 6 years and 171 days of team control. Perfect. We may see Feltman and Hernandez earlier than many expect.
  9. Yeah but we paid him $39M for THAT. lol
  10. Pretty funny Moon. I didn't realize Jacksonianmarch has a twin.
  11. Per MLB.com 12 free agent deals that delivered instant payoffs. 2019: JD Martinez 6.4 WAR 2004: Vladimir Guerrero 5.6 WAR 2001: Ichiro Suzuki 7.7 WAR 2001: Manny Ramirez 5.2 WAR 2001: Alex Rodriguez 8.3 WAR 1999: Randy Johnson 9.1 WAR 1997: Roger Clemens 11.9 WAR 1996: Kevin Brown 7.9 WAR 1993: Greg Maddux 5.8 WAR 1993: Barry Bonds 9.9 WAR 1988: Kirk Gibson 6.5 WAR 1977: Reggie Jackson 4.5 WAR 15 year gap between JD and the previous impact player. Keep Sale, JD and Betts.
  12. Not reseting.
  13. I guess we saved around $680K in salary.
  14. If Wright gets any sympathy from me, it's because of this.
  15. Great read. It's unfortunate that Kimbrel was not free agent AFTER his stellar seasons in 2011-2014. I believe Sox went with his 2nd half stats/performance and did not want to gamble next 4-5 years on him. Kimbrel obviously is in decline. "Save" is most meaningless stat.
  16. Not sure. I give Yankees credit. They made very good off season moves. I like one comment that was made by Cashman or someone else in the organization. They want to keep the core together and they realize at some point, their young super stars will go through what Betts is going through. $20M in second year of arbitration? They can't load up on long term contracts with veteran free agents. Old Yankees would have jumped on Harper and/or Machado. Just think what they could have done with Ellsbury money.
  17. 100% correct. He's shown more than capable on defensive side and his offense is improving. He also runs well. He'll be good utility player for us in 2020. This is contract year for both Nunez and Holt. He provides us with cheap alternative. My guess is he's first up if Pedey goes back on DL.
  18. After the 2016 season, we thought we had better options than Shaw. Both Hanley and Moreland played over 140 games in 2017. Supposedly, Pablo came in better shape for the 2017 season. That really did not materialize. He played less than 50 games. We also had a phenom that we paid $30M in matching tax that was being groomed to play 3B. A natural 2B but that position was blocked by Pedroia. Moncada later got traded to White Sox when DD decided Devers was the better option at 3B. Red Sox had bet $90M on an over weight no talent 3B. Sox were determined to get some value out of it. Nope. No go. It was perfect storm that took Shaw to Milwaukee. Who knew Shaw would hit over 60 home runs in 2017/2018?
  19. Geez, did he get hurt?
  20. Standing ovation on this thread....."Market Price is for wimps" is tattooed on his left arm.......best line of 2019.....well done sir....lol
  21. I agree. Kopech may have given us bullpen depth but we have guys in similar position..Feltman, Hernandez.
  22. Manuel Margot, Javier Guerra, Carlos Asuaje, and Logan Allen for Craig Kimbrel. Manuel has played 277 games with ops of .700. He's only 24. Not sure if we have a room for him right now. Our outfielders are pretty good. Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro for Carson Smith and Roenis Elias. If there ever was a push....I guess Wade Miley could be an upgrade over Johnson. Who knew Carson Smith would get hurt? Anderson Espinoza for Drew Pomeranz. Espinoza went 6-11 in 2016 in the minors and has not pitched since. I'm not sure when he'll resume pitching. I get it why we made the trade but I still think Espinoza could really turn out to be very good pitcher. Travis Shaw, Mauricio Dubon, Josh Pennington, and Yeison Coca for Tyler Thornburg. Younger kids have not done much. Shaw's presence would have eliminated Moreland/Pearce. Shaw is only making $4.7M as a first year arbitration player. Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe, and Victor Diaz for Chris Sale. I would love to have Kopech (age 22) but we did have to give up quality to get 3 years of team friendly contract of Chris Sale. Kimmi.....you keep talking about 'trading away' young talent but I doubt we win 3 straight division titles without these trades. Kimbrel gave us what we needed for 3 years. Chris Sale is getting to deliver us another shot at the World Series title. What's not to like?
  23. I'm on a diet. PS. Hernandez, Dalbec, Chavis, Chatham, Feltman....
  24. Severino (shoulder) 'highly unlikely' for opener MRI shows rotator cuff inflammation; Yanks to shut down righty for 2 weeks I don't ever want to see anyone hurt. But injuries do happen. Not only to Red Sox starters.
  25. You can't have it all. I will take my chances in playoffs with starters Sale, Price, Eovaldi and E Rod. I will take my chances in playoffs with Betts, JD, Beni, Devers, JBJ (2019-2020), Pedroia, Vazquez. It's about choices. I keep our BEST pitcher in Sale, our BEST player in Betts, and our second most valuable player in JD. Beni and Devers should continue to improve. We'll still have the best defensive outfield for 2019-2020. Do you seriously want to pay Porcello $20M? or Xander $25M? You are not serious, Moon.
