  1. And it's possible that player or two will emerge from the minors.
  2. It's not a free agent signings. That's all......feel free to put me on 'ignore'.
  3. The Bogaerts and Sale extensions are evidence, if Betts needs any, that the Sox are serious about keeping this winning core of players together. Per Fangraph... Cliff? Nah, no cliff here.
  4. Xander is homegrown talent and we gave up some younger talent for Sale in a trade. They are both getting a raise. Not quite similar to DD signing say Price in an open market. You build teams in 3 different ways. 1) Homegrown talent....you should know, Yankees have done it in recent years. (Xander, Betts, JBJ, Dustin, Beni, Devers, etc) 2) Trade....basically two teams trading players a) surplus of talent at one position or switching out major league ready talent for talent further out in the minors. (Sale, E Rod, Porcello, Eovaldi, Pearce) 3) Free agents (Price, JD) I think DD has used all three modes to enhance the roster. Perception was Yankees used method 3) when the old man was running the team. I think I saw an article in Fangraph detailing the composition each roster.
  5. Sale to defer undisclosed amount of salaries, reducing average annual value to $25.6M Per Cot's. Thus his delta is $10.6M which I this is very reasonable. Xander's delta appears to be $8M. To think both salaries are covered by Pablo's is pretty good deal for the Sox.

  7. I did read an article where DD was quoted something to the effect we hope he doesn't opt out after this year, talking about JD. I think JD will give Sox a chance to sign him even if he does opt out.
  8. You are on this board because?
  9. Question for pitchers and pitching coaches. Typically, how often and how many pitches will starters throw between starts? Instead of bullpen session, can they just come into a game and throw 25-30 pitches between starts?
  10. It wasn't directed at you or anyone specific. It's time to sit back and enjoy this season. I'm certain DD and Cora will address any problems that crop up.
  11. 22 year old that can't field his position is batting third for team that won 108 games? Yeah, he sucks. What's Cora thinking?
  12. Cora said Price is available out of the bullpen in the first two games in Seattle. Price will pitch the fifth game. I thought this was interesting.
  13. we have a winner.....two valid points. No offense but I'll go with Cora. Does anyone here think it's hard to acquire a Sandy Leon? People on this board make him out to be a Hall of Famer. Oh my God, Chris Sale will now suck. Bank it.
  14. I'm talking about how I keep track of regular season from April to September. Not the Seattle Series. +15 gets you to about 96 wins.
  15. I use simple math.....count the number series won. +2 if we sweep and -2 if they sweep. The goal is to get to +15.
  16. Sandy is set to make $2.475M. Swihart is under team control for 4 years.
  17. Woke up happy today catching up reading all things Chris Sale. Watched his presser and it struck me how 'normal' players are.... His home is near the Spring Training facility. Playing for Sox allows him to be 'home' for additional two months. Mentioned how he's made it to his son's baseball practices. He has seen 6 of 14 games that his son has played. He's a dad, a husband. He's not going to squeeze out every little dollar. Let's not kid ourselves. He's still going to make boatload of money. How can you not like this guy?
  18. What can we get for Betts after 2019 season? Won't there be a club out there who goes ALL IN in 2020 season? Having Betts only for one year may seem detrimental in terms of trading away a top prospect or two but what if that is that is exactly what a club is looking? One year financial commitment of say $28M. Major league ready shortstop along with both pitching and outfield prospects come to mind. My dream scenario is to acquire starting shortstop and outfielder for Betts and then sign him as a free agent in 2021 after we reset for 2020.
  19. Who is our next priority? JD is set to make $23.75M in 2020. Then it drops to $19.375M Is is slam dunk that he'll opt out after 2019? How much more can he garner in open market? Why didn't he get more last year? He had a stellar 2017 season, no? I think he's as valuable to the team as Sale is in terms of intangibles and leadership in the clubhouse. Don't think that gets unnoticed by Henry and DD.
  20. Starting Rotation 2019 Sale, Price, Eovaldi, E Rod, Porcello 2020 Sale, Price, Eovaldi, E Rod 2021 Sale, Price, Eovaldi, E Rod 2022 Sale, Price, Eovaldi Pretty strong line up for the playoffs. Next extension target should be JD Martinez. Get a front loaded six year deal done with opt out after third year.
  21. 1. Trout had two years left on his contract. That contract was VOIDED by both sides. New contract was signed and covers 2019 and beyond. He has new CB payroll average. 2. Sale has a 7 year contract that he signed with White Sox which ends in 2019. Red Sox assumed the contract when the trade was consummated. Sale will have a new contract that will go into effect after 2019 season. New contract has no impact on 2019 CB payroll. I'm still not clear if the signing date has any impact. Likely not since it covers services and payments for future performance.
  22. He has two separate contracts, no? My final answer is this. IT WOULD BE f***ING STUPID FOR RED SOX TO PAY 92.5% PENALTY WHEN THEIR PAYROLL IS CLOSE TO DEATH PENALTY IN 2019. If I'm wrong, my apologies.
