  1. Chatham can play other positions. There's already talk of him playing 2B. Sox staff wants to put best players on the field. They've done that with Chavis playing 2B. Some here thought there's no way he can play 2B. I can see a line up C Vaz 1B Devers 2B Chavis SS Xavier 3B Dalbec LF Chatam Or some combination. I'm not hung up on who plays where. It's getting the best players on the field. Many here doubted Devers and still do. I think he's here to stay. Some think we've rushed Chavis. Hell, he's 23 years old. I also think he's here to stay. This is one way of getting the team payroll down. Devers is under team control for 5 years, Chavis for 7 years counting current season. I think we all want home grown talent to succeed.
  2. I want to stay positive. Assuming we bring back JD Martinez, we still have a two year window before Betts departs. Our bullpen is holding steady. Our starters as a group is pitching somewhat better. Obviously it can't get much worse. Betts bat is beginning to heat up. Xander is always steady. JD is our best pure hitter. But for me the best has been the emergence of Chavis. Getting an opportunity to play 1B yesterday tells me that he's here to stay. He can play multiple positions. He can DH when JD plays in outfield. He can play 1B when Pearce/Moreland are struggling. Obviously he can play 2B. I would guess he'll get to play 3B soon when Devers needs a rest. Chatham is off to a hot start. Maybe we'll see him in September.
  3. Good catch.....
  4. Are we better off with or without Devers? I'd say yes. We need to add one starting position player/starting pitcher each year from the farm. Recently we've had E Rod, Beni, Devers and now Chavis. I'm all about succession plan. I'd expect to see Chatham, Hernandez, Feltman and Dalbec in the bigs by September 2020.
  5. but today would be a bad day to move JBJ, no? If he has a great second half, I'd say trade him. He'll be a free agent with Boras as the agent.
  6. No offense but are you NUTS? We owe Nunez $5M. We owe JBJ $8.55M. We owe Pearce $6.25M. Do you think we can recoup that money in a trade? JBJ should be moved/traded when he gets hot the next time. Now your other thoughts are worth considering.
  7. We lost 2-1 yesterday. We're still bitching about our bullpen?
  8. 1.46 13 0 0 6 7 12.1 9 2 2 2 2 11 .205 ERA G W L S SO IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG Ryan Brasier ($577,500), in the starring role of CLOSER. Kimmi says "How do you like them apples?"
  9. I'm okay with Sandy catching. But can we not over valuer his pitch calling? Starters still need to hit the spots. You'd think Rick would be pitching a perfect game with Sandy behind the plate.
  10. Keratitis? 63 years later, I learn a new word.
  11. Should we not look to see where the highest ceiling maybe at each position within the organization? Obviously it's not Lin. He's our next Brock Holt, at best. Why not try Chavis? He came up as a shortstop. We're asking him to be adequate 2B. You know, just make routine plays. I applaud the team for turning over every rock looking for an edge. If Pedey does not come back, I can see Chatham getting a shot at 2B.
  12. I agree..... I want him back but I'm not going to lose sleep over him. He has a serious knee condition......he can't be counted.
  13. Yep....he may surprise you, why not?
  14. Yawn....who gives a f***. He's a damaged good. I'll get excited when he learns to stay on the field for 3 f***ing straight games.
  15. He's nothing more than a utility player at best. Time to look for permanent fix at 2B.
  16. Dead last in ERA for starters, 2 runs worse than #29 White Sox. When it comes to our starting pitching..... We're dominantly worst. We have the worst locked up. Not even close. It's Secretariat in reverse at the Belmont Stakes. They're the Washington Generals of starting rotation. Not one, but two fat ladies are singing.
  17. Britton and Ottavino fail to protect 3-1 lead as Astros win from behind 4-3. We all have our problems. This is baseball.
  18. Everyone here is silly... Cold weather affects hitters more than pitchers..... Think about it...
  19. 5 innings from our 'bullpen'....0 runs given up.
  20. We should have a reliever start each game and go 2 innings. A starter can come in and pitch inninngs 3-8. Can't do much worse than we have been.
  21. 9 games played 1 quality start by Chris Sale 1 other start with 6 innings pitched by David Price Tell me again how Kimbrel would have helped in first 9 games?
  22. Bottom line is offense spotted E Rod for 3 runs and he couldn't hold it. Our starters are getting hit HARD. Everything else is irrelevant. Let's look at the 5% problem in depth and ignore the elephant in the room.
  23. We have outscored Tampa 24-22 playing one less game. But they've only given up 11 runs to our 42. Sale 2019-2024 Price 2019-2022 Eovaldi 2019-2022 E Rod 2019-2020 Porcello 2019 What the hell are we suppose to do? We think we have the best starting rotation. Be patient. No time to panic. We're only 1 game behind the Yankees.
  24. I hope we have a plan B. We won without him last year. We can't baby the guy. If he can't play over 100 games then he needs to be a utility player. We need an every day 2B.
  25. Per MassLive The Red Sox starting pitching staff has experienced a difficult start to the 2019 season. Chris Sale’s 6 strong innings Tuesday lowered the rotation’s ERA from 11.14 to 9.00. The opposition is batting .313 against the starters. But don’t blame Vazquez and Swihart. Don’t call for Leon’s return. Remember, Vazquez caught 10 of 14 postseason games last year when the pitching staff posted a 3.29 ERA. Before we get too stupid......I know it's coming.
