  1. I was an army brat.....my step dad was a band director in the army, fat, drunk and happy. He made me play trumpet....I hated it. Luckily my mother divorced him....playing football and being in the marching band was no no in high school. Band director would not allow it....lol. Marching Band people live in another planet.
  2. Full Report per Fangraph... Davis is arguably the safest prospect in the draft because he plays a premium position, has impact raw power, and has no contact red flags. There are teams that are skeptical of his ability to catch but what it means to be a catcher will likely change by the time Davis reaches the big leagues (because of the looming electronic strike zones, which will make framing irrelevant) and put more emphasis on arm strength, which Davis has a plenty of. He does have defensive issues. Davis' size makes it hard for him to crouch like most catchers. He catches on one knee with the bases empty and fewer than two strikes, but when he's in a traditional crouch, he is so high that you could slide an ottoman right through his legs. He also has issues with lateral mobility, ball-blocking, and throwing accuracy. Those issues need considerable polish, but if they're remedied then we're probably talking about an All-Star, since Davis has rare offensive talent for a backstop. He has titanic, strength-driven power and has hit some epic, arching dingers off of scoreboards, and some lasers that get out on a line. Davis swung and missed just 63 times on film this year, according to Syngery Sports, which is a 7.6% swinging strike rate, comfortably better than the big league average of 11.5%. It feels like there's enough bat here to profile as a 1B/DH even if the catching piece doesn't work out, which is why Davis has a top-of-the-draft blend of ceiling and floor. I think we should draft a college pitcher......but catching does seem to be a premium position....this guy has offense but not sure about his D.....
  3. Noah Song .....so, it appears flight school lasts 24 weeks and his start date of 3/17 takes him to about 9/3.... Anyone with military background, is this when he applies for deferment? I doubt the Sox drafted him with the thought of him spending 4-6 years in the military.
  4. Nathan Eovaldi in two starts with Connor Wong as his catcher: 14.2 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 12 K. Let's not start this personal caddy s***...or we'll need 5 catchers..
  5. Project for Moon because he's the man... Can you list the first 10 out on our 40 man roster at year end based on what you know today? Or the first 5.... 40 Danny Santana 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31
  6. Cordero goes 2-5, his batting average is near .390. I really want to see him again while he's still hot. Add another left handed bat with power....move Kike to 2B with a righthander on the mound.
  7. It's one thing to be 9 games behind the Sox, it's another to have two other teams in between. They have a mountain climb as intra-division games mount. Not sure they can dominate all three teams at the same time. If the situation was reversed, I'd hope we'd sell off every piece of lawn furniture not attached to youth movement....Barnes, Ottavino, Richards, E Rod, etc... GARAGE SALE TODAY ONLY, 4 JERSEY STREET
  8. Boone thinks new rule has not affected his staff New York Post Article "The numbers seem to suggest otherwise. Before the June 3 memo went out, the Yankees had a team ERA of 3.16, which was second best in baseball. Since then, it is 5.26, 25th best. The biggest culprits have been ace Gerrit Cole and closer Aroldis Chapman, two pitchers paid to dominate. Both of them have seen significant decreases in their spin rates, believed to be a byproduct of doing away with the sticky substances. Dating to the date of the memo, Cole has a 4.65 ERA. The Yankees have lost three of his five starts in that span. He has failed to go beyond five innings twice and has allowed nine home runs — four more than he gave up in his first 11 starts, when he notched a microscopic 1.78 ERA. Chapman has been even worse. He has been scored upon in five of his last nine outings, allowing 11 earned runs in 5 ²/₃ innings. Chapman, who has blown two saves and taken losses two other times, also struck out just six while walking eight — at least two in each of his last three appearances. Wednesday night was rock bottom, when the lefty fireballer blew a four-run lead by allowing a grand slam after walking three hitters. Before the rough stretch, he had a 0.39 ERA. Since then, it is an astounding 17.47. But Boone doesn’t believe these issues are connected to not being able to use these foreign substances, and instead pointed to mechanical issues." “I do not think that’s part of his problem,” Boone said. “I feel strongly that’s not part of the problem.” Yeah lets hope it's just mechanical........
  9. We'll have Big 8.....Big 9 if Vaz gets hot.
  10. I doubt Cordero is fielding grounders at 1B without the direction from Bloom.
  11. And we didn't have to pay him $24M over two years.......
  12. Moving Devers to 1B has been discussed previously. It's also possible that Xander's range at SS will be so deficient that it may necessitate move to 3B.
  13. I said assuming he hits the cover off....I'm trying figure out how to max out our offense. We can also move Xander to 3B, acquire a shortstop and have Devers play 1B. I also said it was a stupid idea #1.
  14. I have some stupid ideas...here's one at the top of my list. I think Devers is athletic. Most of his issues defensively deals with his throwing. Is he agile enough to play 2B? Can he be taught to turn double play? With advent of defensive s***, modern day players are asked to stand away from their normal position. Obviously not as much 'travel' for 3B. Would shortening up his throws help him defensively? I remember thinking how great it was to have 'power' bat at 2B. Joe Morgan of Reds comes to my mind. Assuming Dalbec eventually tears cover off baseballs, we can get more offensive by having Devers play 2B, moving Dalbec to 3B. Offer him 12 year, $360M contract with delayed payouts and work the deal down to $25M luxury tax payroll amount. (it's never the cash, it's always the luxury tax implication that matters) With that contract, he can be convinced to play any position for the good of the team. Championship should be the only thing that would matter to him. What else is there to talk about? We're exceeding all expectations. 19 freaking games over .500. (we went 54-27, both halves in 2018)
  15. If Sox were to trade for Trevor Story to play 2B for the stretch run, do we receive any type of compensation for losing him to free agency? I was thinking they changed the rules. Not happening but wondering....
  16. So Cordero has better chance of mastering 1B than Duran in CF? Sure, boys..... Oh don't get me wrong. I'm all about exploring every option, looking under every rock. My goal is to get the best 26 player roster for the Sox. You know, maybe trading out Houck for Workman, as an example. Will that break the team chemistry?
  17. weather delay? it'll be 2 1/2 hours...good night you all.
  18. JBJ would be the highest paid player for the Rays......not even close...
  19. What idiot wants to pay 2 year $24M for a player with diminishing defensive skills? Not Bloom.
  20. We will not make any player moves until we lose our lead....Bloom says he doesn't want to break up team chemistry......I guess it's there until we start to lose....go figure.
  21. It's going to rain in Boston until 12:30 am.....can they stop the game so players can get a quick nap and come back after midnight?
  22. Same people that wanted JBJ back don't want Duran.....
  23. Giving Franchy Cordero time at first base makes all the sense in the world I sure hope we don't ruin the team chemistry if this works out....because you know Cora, he doesn't want to move his players around...
  24. I'm not taking it personally. This team is doing great but couple of spots can get better. As an example, as good as bullpen has been, it can be extended with addition of Houck. I don't think the management is ready to give up a spot in starting rotation except to returning Sale. Houck would be temporary solution unless Richards or some other starter falls off the cliff. My only point about Duran is I think he can help, not as every day player necessarily. He's carrying a hot bat albeit its in AAA. He doesn't have to play CF you know. He can always play left field. He gives us another left handed bat not named Marwin and Santana. He costs us NOTHING. Sox retain 6 more years of team control on Duran. Not personal....what's the trigger point? Wait another 60 days so he can start to fail in AAA and say I told you so he's not ready?
  25. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (NYY) 9, Worcester Red Sox 7 Jarren Duran headlined this one, belting his 14th and 15th home runs of the season. He showed off his all-fields power yet again, as the first one went to right field and the second to left field. He now has 15 HR's in 156 AB. .988 OPS.
