  1. I don't get these posters....it's about making the 26 man roster as good as it can be.....we have chance to get into the playoffs WITHOUT sacrificing ANY farmhand. We can go ALL IN without making one single trade. Kike can always play the position he was acquired to play....second base. It's only because Cordero failed has Kike ended up as a centerfielder. No one on this board has any problems with Cora rotating players, playing Marwin great deal of time and Santana some. To say that there are no at bats available is disingenuous. We'll have Arroyo back to provide depth and plenty of bats at 2B and shortstop. We can rest our outfielders by playing Kike in CF and Arroyo at 2B. There's absolutely NO RISK. If he's hurting the team, send him down. See how easy that works? If you ask the Rays, Yankees and Blue Jays, their GM's would tell you yep, keep him in AAA. I bet no one would say bring him up thinking he'd hurt the Sox. Only the fans on this board.
  2. I have ton of respect for you. But I don't get the team is rolling.... Yes it's rolling despite having someone like Santana. Yes it's rolling despite not having had someone like Houck to add pitching depth. We're in a pennant chase. Don't we want to do everything we can to complete the task short of trading out our young talent? I just don't see why anyone would be hesitant to give Duran some playing time. Why? Why? So he goes 0-50, send his ass down and try again next year. He's not going to accrue a year's worth of major league time this year. He'll be under team control for six years starting in 2022. This year becomes 'bonus'. Send him back if he can't hack it. That's what we do. He's not 12. We're not going to hurt his feeling if gets sent back down. I would be very surprised if he's not called up. He can help this ball club.
  3. Power of Having A Competitive Team Viewership for the Red Sox on NESN this season is up 84% on the Household level versus last year’s full season average rating, and up 72% as compared to last year’s season average for A25-54. In addition, Adults 18-34 is up 53% versus last year and touts the highest rating since 2011.” Put a winning team on the field and Sox fans will follow......look ma...no Mookie Betts! Bloom maybe the best thing to happen to this organization.
  4. You add Duran because you're in the midst of pennant race. Speed, speed, speed, left handed bat......can't do any worse than Santana. He's still locked in for six years beginning 2022.
  5. Now +17 games above .500. Yankees lose tonight. Losing after leading 5-1 should deflate the Royals. Need to go at least 3-1. We got Richards' start out of the way. Get to +18 and playing out the schedule at .500 will get us to 90 wins. Feels like we're getting better.
  6. Remy keeps saying icing the arm maybe helped Richards. Richards put his arm in ice to dry it off. He then applied rosin all over to keep it dry. Maybe that improved the grip.
  7. Maybe Kike is on a run of his own.....he's had good at bats today. His walk was very impressive...usually he'd be swinging at those.
  8. Josh Taylor pitched three straight games vs Rays....nothing against right handed heavy Yankees. He should be well rested, not pitched since 6/24. Looks like he's coming in.
  9. If Richards gets his turn next time, I want Cora fired......it's that bad. He has no business pitching for awhile.
  10. This is a great read. Awhile back, Whitlock and the staff were talking about him working on his slider. I was little upset at the time because he was not being used very much. I'd say he took advantage of some 'time off' working on his craft. He's beginning to see some action in high leverage situations. How can you not like this guy? He cost us almost nothing!!!!!!
  11. Not to kick a guy when he's down......from first couple of pages of Moon's thread
  12. The story behind Garrett Whitlock's new weapon https://www.audacy.com/weei/sports/red-sox/garrett-whitlocks-new-pitch-that-has-helped-save-the-day
  13. Yankees desperately need to shake up their roster New York Post Headline. We haven't seen that in Boston papers. Just here....lol...
  14. I say Santana goes before Marwin...
  15. Dalbec is very tolerable as a #9 hitter if Kike and Arroyo hold their own at CF and 2B. That leads to pretty solid 1-8. My guess is Sox had in mind Cordero and Kike would do the trick. Two players I was most interested in this year were Dalbec and Whitlock. One has not met my expectation and other has surpassed it. It hurts every time Dalbec takes a strike for strike, and chases balls outside the strike zone for third strike. We now have pretty solid relief group in Barnes, Ottavino, Taylor, Whitlock, Sawamura and Darwinzon. It'd be nice to see Brasier come back and have Ort get a promotion as some point. I have no idea what the team will do with Richards. Looks like he's going to make adjustments on the fly. Marwin it tolerable because of his defense and his ability to play 2B/SS reasonably well.
  16. there are pundits that still think we won't be in a pennant race...
  17. Sox are now 16 games over .500 for first time. This was their fourth attempt to get there. Is it possible that G Cole will go through an adjustment period due to rule change? $36M per year gamble by the Yankees?
  18. signed by Boston as a free agent 2/26/18 18:$23.75M, 19:$23.75M, 20:$23.75M, 21:$19.375M, 22:$19.375M may opt out of contract after both 2019 ($2.5M buyout) and 2020 seasons (no buyout)
  19. Cot's baseball does not show an option after this year. He had one last year.
  20. Yankees are getting their asses handed to them.....sweet... I wonder how many fans turned off their TV to go do something else...
  21. Interesting that Whitlock comes back with 1 day of rest after pitching 2 innings to pitch another 1 2/3. Maybe the training wheels are completely off.
  22. Give me a break Moon, now you're just being sanctimonious. You boohoo 15 games free fall but you counter by emphasizing his 6 game sample of 1.000 OPS and .791 after 8 games? Where is his power? It's hard to display speed if you're not on base. We also have another guy that can play multiple positions. It's one thing if we have no other option but we do. Can you tell me in a pennant chase, how many games no longer constitute a small sample? You seem to have all the answers.
  23. Santana hit a homer in his first two games and a triple in his fourth game. (3-13, .231) Since then, he's gone 5-52 with five singles. Looks like one of JBJ's slump.
  24. We can all agree that Bloom is the best 'get' the Sox got. My guess is Sox expected more from Cordero. He was the left fielder and Kike the second baseman. At some point it's on the players. Cordero is not done. I think he'll get another look. I'm pleased that Sox has been patient with Dalbec. Can't say that he has not had his opportunity. Again, at some point, it's on the player. Based on what he did in 2020, pretty sure Sox wanted more from him this year. Getting Pivetta and Seabold for two relievers last year was Bloom's best trade so far. Whitlock will be a regular starting pitcher next year with five years of team control. Knowledgeable Yankees fans will hurt a little every time he pitches for Sox. Sawamura signing for $1.2M (21), $1.2M (22) and $3.0M club option (23) has not been discussed much but this type of deal is where Bloom shines.
  25. Some Gems from New York Post Garrett Whitlock, a Rule 5 selection by the Red Sox from the Yankees’ list of unprotected players last December, tossed a pair of shutout innings, the sixth and seventh, for his new club. He owns a 1.49 ERA in 21 games totaling 36 ¹/₃ innings. Adam Ottavino, whom the Yankees salary-dumped on the Red Sox last January, recorded a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts (Giancarlo Stanton and Luke Voit). The veteran now owns a 2.64 ERA in 34 games totaling 30 ²/₃ innings. That and $153 million, nearly eight years ago, would have landed you Jacoby Ellsbury, who emerged from the shadows here Friday, wearing his Bosox jersey, to salute his retiring pal Dustin Pedroia. (ok that's funny) The Yankees have a Deivi Garcia problem. Once seen as a potential option for rotation depth — or perhaps a trade chip at next month’s deadline — the 22-year-old right-hander’s season has been a disaster that only grew worse Friday. Garcia allowed five runs in just two innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and has allowed 18 runs in his past 8 ²/₃ innings. Yankees’ Zack Britton exits with hamstring injury It was the latest setback for Britton, who was pitching in his fifth game of the season after his debut was delayed following elbow surgery in March to remove a bone chip. He returned on June 12 and threw three scoreless innings across three games in six days.
