  1. We all doubt it. That's what makes it likely
  2. I don't think it matters. They aren't getting him...
  3. With Correa, the real dark horse is the Nationals. They won everything 3 years ago, and still have some big contracts in Corbin and Strasburg. They do have a bunch of solid young, cheap players lead by Juan Soto (who will be leaving this list soon, as he should start making real money), Keibert Ruiz, Victor Robles, Josiah Gray, Tanner Rainey, and Carter Kieboom. Why not? I think the Yankees look for a short term option and hope one of Peraza or Volpe pans out. Simmons and IKF are both good options. Taking the the last year of the contract of Elvis Andrus might lessen what it takes to pry Matt Olson out of Oakland. Maybe a reunion with Grigorius, freeing up Philly to pursue Correa?
  4. Plus Stroman gets tips and a full week off at Christmas...
  5. Well, now you have to factor in Bloom's First Law of Unpredictability, which clearly states "odds were meant to be disregarded"...
  6. At this point, I think the whackier the scenario, the more I am likely to embrace it as realistic...
  7. Probably, but he was the first one to come to mind. Certainly Madison Bumgarner would be a candidate, although not sure about any upside. Trevor Bauer can be had, if you can ignore some rather odd off-field issues...
  8. And not at least postponed? The problem with cancelling the Rule 5 draft is it really doesn't enhance the owners' agenda (and arguably hurts it) since the MLBPA never really cared about those unprotected minor league scrubs trying to steal their jobs anyway...
  9. I'm clinging to a rotation of Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Hill and Wacha as the plan. I still think this team needs to add at least one more reliever (Archie Bradley? Oliver Drake? Trade candidate?) and a starting LF (Bryant? Conforto? Eddie Rosario?) and maybe a LHH 1B to pair with Dalbec (Brad Miller?) Now that I have mentioned those names, all of whom are good fits, I think we can all agree that none of them will be signed once the off-season continues...
  10. I'm certainly not saying Yorke is on the block, just that he was an example of the types of minor league deals the Sox could make with increased minor league depth. As for Bloom dealing first-round picks, I might be a bit hesitant to make any such bet. 2015 Tampa first-rounder Richie Shaffer might want to take that action. 2018 first-rounder Matt Liberatore was also dealt by Tampa rather quickly, but I think Bloom was already in Boston...
  11. It would e interesting if the Sox instead used Bradley as the trade bait to help some non-contending team offload a very expensive and useless contract. Bradley for Patrick Corbin?
  12. The prospects can also make an immediate impact. One of them is a middle infielder, which is a position the Sox have some MiLB depth in. So maybe the new MIF (Hamilton) is part of a deal come July. Or maybe they move Yorke for a pitcher. Prospect trades can be as much about the present as any other deal…
  13. I’d also throw in this deal potentially gives a better shot to Jarren Duran. If JBJ is not really a full time CF anymore, it might open the door for Duran to get some OJT in MLB. This theory also might explain why Locastro was non-tendered…
  14. There’s also Corey Dickerson (the journeyman), Jorge Soler (the hitter) and Gregory Polanco (the “how is he still only 30 years old?” guy
  15. Well, really is a roughly $3.5 mill (minus whatever Milwaukee pays, if anything) since they also list Renfroe’s salary. Right now the outfield is, to be kind, in flux. But I imagine JBJ will supplement Duran in CF and another LF will be acquired somehow before the season starts. Free agency has a few names left, like Schwarber (the familiar), Bryant (the star) and Rosario (the underrated), Castellanos (the, I don’t know, handsome guy maybe? Is he handsome?) and Conforto (the Met)…
  16. I will say I don’t think anyone is dazzled. The only highlight to me is it looks like they intend to keep both Houck and Whitlock as the high leverage guys in the bullpen. But even that’s not as certainty…
  17. Lots of players have the occasional rough postseason. A rough two week stretch, even at a crucial time, is no reason to dump a player. Renfroe struggled heavily at the end of the Houston series, but you know who else did? Everyone else…
  18. I can help. I know I’m that list. It doesn’t bother me, either…
  19. So far, I couldn’t be more confused. I think the rotation is set and the bullpen (with both Houck and Whitlock) is very close. So that’s probably not true. And the only four starters I think are locks for opening day (barring injury) are Devers at 3b, JD at DH, Vazquez at catcher, and Bogaerts at SS. And I have a few residual doubts about Bogaerts. Dalbec at 1b also looks good, but I also think a LHH compliment is likely, someone to act as a place holder for Casas. The incredibly obvious choice to me is Brad Miller. But I also pegged him as an incredibly obvious choice last winter and he went and signed somewhere else….
  20. I would expect Bloom to sign at least one more outfielder, but I also think he is going to want to know the implications of the new CBA first, which is why he (among others) avoided the players with larger contracts so far. That doesn’t mean once there is a new CBA, Bloom will go on a spending spree. But I expect if the conditions are not too restrictive, he will start at least working on contracts larger than those to date…
  21. When Mike Lowell came to Boston and a new league, he said the biggest problem wasn’t the big name veteran pitchers. It was testing to adjust to all the pitchers he knew nothing about…
  22. Hey there may be room for Jarren Duran after all, even if the Sox sign Schwarber or Kris Bryant. The only guy we know out there is Verdugo (for now).Certainly it’s very likely Hernandez is out there, but I’m not calling it definite. His glove plays anywhere and the 2b market looks decrepit…
  23. I also think the uncertainty of the new CBA influenced the off-season so far. Sure, Bradley is expensive, but if the new CBA in unfavorable, his term is still very short. It’s probably not a coincidence that several other big spending clubs, notably the Yankees and Dodgers, but also Phillies, Giants and Angels have not gotten involved in the top tier free agent market either. Even Syndergaard was only signed for one year…
  24. He’s not a fourth outfielder today. But there are several options left that could put him in that position…
  25. More likely they don’t like those players for the number of years it takes to sign them. I’m sure they love to have Corey Seager next year. But maybe they’re not so high on the notion of having him until 2031…
