  1. Danish will get demoted. Teams will option a player before any trade/DFA as this limit doesn’t affect 40 man rosters and every team has at least one pitcher with options…
  2. I think 1. Any team in need of INF help will find other, better options and 2. The Sox do still need a utility INF, even if they can keep him out of the OF…
  3. I don’t think Arroyo is any sort of sought-after trade chip that will bring much in the way of an improvement for the Sox…
  4. You can only trade with teams when they’re selling. Unless you plan to blow them away, why would even the tankingest team deal now when there may be better offers on the table later?
  5. So you think Friedman is going to go from “worth over a third of a billion dollars over 12 seasons” to “unload ASAP” over a singular cracked rib?
  6. Well he did acquire all 3 of them at some point…
  7. The -0.5 this year might not be the best metric when talking about his signing. He did have a -0.1 fWAR in 2021 (and a 0.4bWAR). But that was also his only negative WAR in his career…
  8. Don’t get me started…
  9. I’ve always thought Diekman was good. And his long career is proof others have agreed. But his career long battles with walks is the one thing that makes him prone to off years and reckless outings…
  10. Crawford at least has that Seattle start, but I’d prefer him in a smaller bullpen role. But I do agree with them there is MLB talent; it’s just borderline talent that is best used properly. Winckowski and Seabold do both deserve a look. But if you’re right about Seabold, it does kill off any firesale talk for now…
  11. Duncan may not have had that rep, but he certainly was not the guy defenders wanted with the ball in his hands and the clock winding down. His big problem was his lack of excitement and highlight reel plays, which is why Shaq referred to him as The Big Fundamental. But LeBron has transcended the NBA. He’s made movies. He’s hosted SNL. He’s written a children’s book. He’s invested in other basketball leagues and promoted the sport. Larry Bird played NBA basketball, then moved on to other NBA jobs. He’s never left that world. And I don’t think anyone wanted him to…
  12. I was ready to move on from Perez. He had his ups and downs. The McHugh/Diekman debate is looking like what Bellhorn calls Recency Effect. Over the last 3-4 years, not much difference statistically between the two. But McHugh was stellar last year. Now there are two differences. 1. McHughdid spent a fair amount of his time as a starter, which does influence his numbers negatively. And 2. McHugh has shown himself to be more injury prone. Do these offset?
  13. If 26yo Connor Seabold and 24yo Josh Winckowski -neither of whom have anything left to prove in AAA - are not ready, when will they be? In their early 30s?
  14. To me his most perplexing move so far has been the Houck/Whitlock Bullpen rotation shuffle. I don’t get why both earmarked relievers got bounced around so much and never had their slots backfilled once we all learned Sale was going to be out. I mean, why not just get another starter?
  15. Yeah but that’s an evaluation of talent. Not results. If the Sox had signed McHugh over Diekman, would things be any different today?
  16. By who? Larry kept out of the limelight, so he didn’t have LeBron’s non-basketball career. So it’s really tough to make this claim within a different, much smaller circle. In this respect, Bird was much closer to Tim Duncan than LeBron…
  17. I looked at McHugh’s season. Has he really been that much more effective than Diekman? ERA’s are very close. Diekman’s FIP and K/BB suggest he’s been luckier, but to date I don’t think McHugh would have made much difference. McHugh has been better at stranding inherited runners (24% to 42%) but not all stranded runners are equal…
  18. The Sox acquired RHP James Norwood yesterday. Who got DFAd?
  19. While not as good as McHugh, Diekman is getting a bad rap. He’s pitched in 27 games and allowed 9 ER this season. 6 of those 9 came in 2 games. (Diekman has allowed 5 of 12 IR to score this year.) He walks way too many people to be trusted in high leverage situations, but he’s been much better than Barnes and Robles…
  20. Since May 15; .563 OPSA 2.64 FIP 3.00 ERA 11/1 K/BB Only over 12 IP, but he certainly has been better…
  21. What will it take for them to lose faith in Robles?
  22. They don’t have to be traded. They can be DFAd and released. Barnes and Diekman are the only ones making actual money, and neither has any sort of immovable contract. Heck, Robles signed a minor league deal…
  23. Steph Curry, unlike any other NBA superstar with the exception of Charles Barkley, is actually extremely funny. He’s the executive producer of an extreme mini-golf show on NBC (called Holey Moley), and they give him plenty of camera time in which he does some prepared material, and it’s absolutely hilarious…
  24. Did you just say Larry Bird is more charismatic than LeBron?
  25. But no movie for Hot Pie?
