  1. Point?
  2. If they have that much faith in Mayer, I suspect a stopgap shortstop will be signed (Andrus?) or acquired via trade (Mondesi?). Or Kike will play the position for one year…
  3. San Diego wants more shortstops? Last year they had shortstops playing second base, third base, left field, and center field on occasion. Oh and they had one at shortstop. And they did all this with their actual starting shortstop out with an injury, and later a suspension. They might want to consider players who have played other positions once in a while…
  4. You’re assuming their voiced interest in Bogaerts actually indicates interest in Bogaerts…
  5. I guess Dusty Baker doesn’t really think he is such a detrimental force in the clubhouse after all…
  6. They’re becoming the Bond Villains of MLB…
  7. It’s not even Bloom in particular that Bloom supporters like. It’s the organization’s newfound dedication to maintaining a competitive team by building a winner from within as opposed to quick fix high-priced solutions that offer no guarantee of winning but do provide a guarantee of down years while those players decline and strangle the budget. Bloom may or may not be the guy. If he gets fired and Click (who really didn’t do it for Houston) replaces him, that’s ok, since it still means that is the goal. (Really the readily available Jeff Lunhow might be the guy, as he built the Astros.) I just want this team to compete every year without those awful years waiting for expensive players and their deals to expire. If Bloom gets us there, great. If he flops and Lunhow or Click or whoever does, also great. If the Sox give up and just start throwing money around and emptying the farm, hopefully it works quickly. Because it will definitely fail long term…
  8. Except the answer to the actual chicken/egg question is really quite obvious…
  9. If projections are any indication, Contreras is less likely to inhibit upping Devers than any of Swanson, Bogaerts , Turner and Correa…
  10. Also 8 OAA, second only to Swanson. But Andrus won’t require a 6 year 9 figure deal…
  11. Right. You don’t get swayed. You just constantly cite them to support your opinion…
  12. The real argument is - is Devers a $300mill player by today’s standards? Austin Riley says no. Arguments can be made for and against comparing him to Rendon, most of which hinge on Rendon also being vastly superior defensively. As he’s just 26, I’m fine with the 10 year deal. The real issue is - Devers has no real reason to rush into anything…
  13. Doubtful, but it might not be a bad idea. I mean, 3 years? Still I’d much rather just extend the 3b currently the roster…
  14. He doesn’t get how the media works. He thinks their business model is to inform…
  15. How old are you? Six!?! The entire point -since the opinions of others cannot be proven either way - is to ignore them and just use your own. Two posts ago, you denied getting swayed by sports media opinions. And then you cite two of them. This is getting sad…
  16. But even last year, Machado was worth 7.0 fWAR/6.8 bWAR, while Devers was worth 4.9 fWAR/4.4 bWAR. Machado is a better all around player due to his vastly superior defense. And nothing else. In fact, Devers OPS+ through his age 22 season was 116, which is better than Machado’s at the same age (114). No truth to Devers “sucked early on”…
  17. See, once again it’s the whole “but all these complete strangers agree with me. You’ll have to take my word they exist.”
  18. Quoting, not quitting. My auto correct on this keyboard is soooo annoying…
  19. He did lead the league in OAA last year. The sneaky bargain if you get offense at catcher (like Contreras) is to bring in Elvis Andrus, whose glove still plays. In fact, the Sox might be able to get Andrus and Contreras for not much more than Swanson and probably less than Bogaerts. And I’d rather start Contreras and Andrus over Swanson and McGuire…
  20. What difference does it make who spent it? The bottom line was there was not any more to spend. And no - there were several who flat out ignored the existence of the payroll…
  21. You don’t get swayed by the media? Dude you openly admit to quoting then out here nearly every day!!
  22. Should he break it? After his age 25 season, Machado was worth 30.1 fWAR/34.6 bWAR. At the same age, Devers is worth 18.1 fWAR/15.2 bWAR. Is he really a better player who deserves to break that?
  23. People were calling Bloom out for cheapness on this board until it was finally pointed out the Sox still had one of the highest payrolls in MLB. It’s not even just about the Star Factor. There’s a Recency Effect. If you didn’t buy an All Star this off-season, then this of clearly Tampa North…
  24. As opposed to Bogaerts at $189/7? Or even Nimmo at $110/5? This team will need offense, too…
  25. You probably should stop speaking for people who aren’t you. The whole notion that your opinion is widespread among the fans is completely unsupported. And unnecessary. We already take you seriously. You don’t need to pretend to be popular…
