  1. Bear in mind, it’s not the Sox saying “he makes too much money to close.” That’s probably coming from fans and stupid journalists. The White Sox briefly put him in that role, and the Red Sox did earlier this year. https://nesn.com/2022/05/could-chris-sale-return-from-injury-as-relief-pitcher-red-sox-undecided/ Anyone saying he makes “too much money to close” isn’t paying attention this year. By that logic, one should also assume Jackie Bradley made too much money to DFA..
  2. I wouldn’t mind if they bumped Sale to closer, but I’d be surprised. If there is a positive spin to Sale’s 2022, it’s that none of his injuries were to his left shoulder or left elbow. Even the broken wrist was his right one. He did break his left pinky finger, so I don’t know if that will impact anything pitching-wise, but it’s certainly not as important as his left index and middle fingers…
  3. That’s ridiculous. If Devers or Bogaerts decided to no longer try because they didn’t like the trade deadline activity, why would anyone want either of them extended. The roster activity and direction of their team is neither of their concern. The job of both - and everyone else on the roster is simply to play ball to their best of their ability…
  4. The Orioles are not bad. They have the best record in the AL East since June 1 and are 42-28 in that time frame…
  5. Hopefully no one’s is trying to blame the trade deadline for this slump.
  6. Five of those six hitters are back, but three of them are doing worse than last season (using OPS+ as a metric). Bogaerts is pretty much the same, and Devers, complete with slump, is doing better…
  7. I also think they have up on Shaw way too early. 19 PAs? Granted he was 0 for 19. But he at least players a serviceable 1b. Plan C in Cordero was a big flop there…
  8. One of the biggest issues is the anticipated 5 man rotation has only started 66 out of 122 games, which has got to be among the lowest totals in MLB. Bloom needed to do more to backfill the loss of Sale once Sale was able to disclose his rib injury…
  9. The trade wasn’t the problem. The contract extension was..
  10. Devers is 12 for his last 84 for a .539 OPS. Martinez is 16 for his last 99 for a .480 OPS Bogaerts is 14 for his last 67 for a .583 OPS.
  11. That might be on Cora for not playing the D to guard the lines…
  12. Hard to say. This is a guy who complained that Franchy’s walk off grand slam was just stat-padding…
  13. Eddie Haskell?? You need younger friends!!
  14. “Get me outta Boston!” - Mookie Betts, 2019…
  15. Motivate them to do what? Drop out of the post season early?
  16. The funny thing is, people still think they’re a dooormat. They play 76 games in a division where the worst team is one game under .500. They have no recognizable stars. And one of, if not the best farms in MLB with 3 marquee names ready to step in. The Orioles are not a doormat today, and may not be one again for quite a while…
  17. I think it was. Sort of invalidates my point. I could try to defend it if you like…
  18. From a “commitment” stand point, Story does have 5 more years at that rate. But I’m not sure why, in a post about offensive ineptitude in which Bogaerts and Martinez were called out, contracts matter…
  19. Me too. And I wouldn’t poison it…
  20. People have countered your opinions, but no one has told you not to have them. And you’ve countered other people. That’s how the system works…
  21. I thought it was Story.
  22. He has 4 World Series rings - 1983 Orioles, 2004 Red Sox, 2007 Red Sox, and 2013 Red Sox. That’s an awful lot of hardware for someone who’s “not a baseball guy.”..
  23. Lucchino also has multiple World Series rings (with the Orioles and Red Sox), a Super Bowl ring (with the Washington Redskins) and a Final Four Watch (from his playing days at Princeton). He is quite possibly the only human to have all of these. He might not have been the most personable human being, but he was definitively not a loser. He was also on the BOD for the Special Olympics and extremely philanthropic towards Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. Why do people hate this guy so much?
  24. No one will know for another year minimum. In his first year with the Mets, Francisco Lindor had a .734 OPS. He has a .810 OPS this year. Some players struggle a bit in a new league…
  25. Well that’s the exact behavior I’m calling out. I would hope none of us hate either of those gentlemen most if not all of us have never met. And probably never will. I don’t like all of Bloom’s moves, but I like the overall strategy. And if/when it works out, it should make for an enjoyable time for Sox fans. But his road there? Some question marks of varying sizes. But to me anyway, not the Renfroe trade. And for Cora, I’m surprised he got another opportunity. Cora and Hinch survived that scandal (if you consider Hinch’s current job as Tigers’ manager to be survival and not comeuppance) while Beltran and Luhnow have been out of baseball since. So really, Cora got the least punishment - one 60 game season off..,
