  1. The key piece in that trade was Mayer. By a lot…
  2. Sure if both Hosmer (1b) and Casas (DH) are playing. Not that Hosmer should be a consideration for Abreu. If the Sox sign Abreu, Hosmer is a DFA candidate…
  3. The Marlins are the place to talk for SP. The one guy they may not want is Pivetta. Even IF they deal Alcantara, they still have Lopez, Sanchez, Rogers, Garrett, Hernandez, Cabrera and Max Meyer fighting for SP innings. Reportedly they were asking for the moon for Lopez. Their price for Alcantara is likely lifting. Ditto Trevor Rogers. I’ve always liked the very underrated Eleiser Hernandez, but his injury problems figure to be more problem than solution. But maybe Edward Cabrera or Sixto Sanchez are realistic targets…
  4. Considering how little weight we all carry combined on this singular Red Sox forum out of the thousands of Red Sox forums on the entire internet, that statement, while true, is also misleading. Shaughnessy’s influence could be 0.000000000000001% of the decision making process, and that’s still more than ours…
  5. It’s a good thought, but it also blocks Casas unless they bench (realistic), DFA (very realistic) or trade (not so much even at min wage) Hosmer…
  6. For LF, Ian Happ? BTV accepted Duran and Wicky Gonzalez. (BTV posted it as a featured trade. Still up as one.) Career .348 OBP. Only 1 year left. Cubs reportedly shopped him at the deadline. Bring back Kike for CF and Verdugo to RF.
  7. Red Sox record since July 1: 17-30 Yankees record since July 1: 20-27 Not sure they’re playing well enough to talk trash…
  8. When will the Sox finally honor my 4 year long campaign to DFA Brasier?
  9. And not one person cried when he did. If anything, the success of Perez does show Bloom had a good eye for pitching talent…
  10. … which is why I said he struggled defensively. But then after one year, he was traded to Atlanta for Andy Marte, who was then flipped for Crisp, who excelled defensively…
  11. But Renteria got us Coco Crisp! Through the indirect process of trading for and later flipping the late Andy Marte…
  12. I think Swihart’s Ghost just uses this site to vent frustration. He tarely posts when things are going well. If this site fits his need for that purpose, I have no problem with that…
  13. The Boston press was always loaded with writers with vendettas against stars, usually for trivial reasons. The Herald’s Steve Buckley seemed to hate Roger Clemens and once wrote an article about Roger’s temper because he threw a bag of hot dog rolls at him. Hot dog rolls! Meanwhile on other teams, Albert Belle was throwing baseballs at photographers who were looking in another direction…
  14. And neither lasted very long. They did win a WS with Lugo, and won 95 games with Renteria, but both struggled defensively. I think Alex Gonzalez was his best SS free agent and the Sox were a bit quick to replace him…
  15. A lot of people liked to point to that, but to me his movement at shortstop was probably a good thing. A bad thing would have been sticking with a veteran who was clearly uncomfortable with the team/position/contract/whatever. Recognizing that something wasn’t working and moving on is a good thing…
  16. It should also be obvious that the Sox went 33-14 over a 47 game stretch - which did clearly not take place over 2 weeks against a couple bad teams - during which they lost 3 starting pitchers (Eovaldi, Whitlock and Hill) and would 2 more (Wacha and Sale) shortly after. If you think “everyone has injuries”, please name another team that lost five SPs over a 4 week stretch…
  17. Work trip to Connecticut. So, yes. Bored…
  18. I only speak in possibilities as I don’t have access to actual players. Winckowski has a 5.83 ERA in 61 IP at age 24. Did you also give up on Nestor Cortes at his 5.83 ERA after 66 IP at that same age? Or os the hard line between “potential” and “flop” somewhere between an ERA of 5.67 and 5.83?
  19. He is disappointing lately, but at 103 IP, he also might be wearing down physically. His career high in IP is only 127 and that was back in 2019…
  20. You make it sound like you think getting Price was a positive part of the deal for LA, and not just a salary dump by Boston. Two teams made offers for Betts. Two. Dodgers and Padres. And I think only the Dodgers we’re willing to take Price money to get Betts…
  21. So you didn’t think the clubhouse looked like that during your visit?
  22. Wasn’t me. I never saw the point in DFAing or trading (which many others also wanted) Arroyo. Now Josh Taylor was my DFA target last year. Until he just turned it on and became a bullpen stud. This year - I’ve been all for DFAing Barnes, Brasier and Diekman…
  23. It’s not fantasy re-draft. A new GM doesn’t walk into a clean slate and just build. DD entered a very favorable situation in which the team had a good farm loaded with prospects other teams wanted, a glut of talented pre-arb players, and an unlimited budget. He did what he was supposed to do. He built a great team. But he also left an aftermath of big, ugly deals and younger players getting more expensive. Someone had to clean up that mess and get a new team going forward. You keep saying “it’s been 3 years” like there was a single contract in that time that was that short. The Sox are still paying off 2018 and 2019…
  24. He traded away two players from the MLB roster, one of whom every fan was glad to see go. He even told Bogaerts he wouldn’t be traded. Had he gutted the team, that sends a white flag message. Would that have been better?
  25. It’s every GMs job. Fans like the “quick fix heavy spend types” because of the immediate results, but when all the bills come due and the players age, suddenly they conveniently forget 7 year contracts last for 7 years, and they want more quick fix heavy spending…
