  1. That’s because it’s not just about evaluating prospects in a trade, but also about selecting ones the other guy is willing to give up. It doesn’t help that in most of the trades he has made so far, the Sox didn’t give up much. Certainly Betts is the outlier, but even he came with a very high salary and was handcuffed to David Price. I don’t think getting elite prospects was the primary objective with that deal…
  2. Clearly Sam Kennedy does not read this forum…
  3. But if they don’t make the postseason, then it might get complicated…
  4. So you’re saying there will be fans? What exactly is the deterrent here for the Sox?
  5. So far it seems like the buzz is the QO has killed Eovaldi’s appeal (likely combined with his dip in velocity) and he will end up back in Boston…
  6. That’s just people looking to complain. And if you need to fabricate complaints this off-season, you’ve entered a whole new cosmic realm of pessimism…
  7. Isn’t Goodrum on a minor league deal? If so, he can’t be DFAd, as the purpose of DFAing is to remove a player from the 40 man roster. MiLB contracts are not on the 40 man…
  8. Old Red has not been subtle in his attempts to squash even the hint of any optimism under Bloom…
  9. Henry was a commodities market guy. But even then, not all hedge market guys are equal just like not all baseball players get paid like Mike Trout…
  10. Will anyone? If nothing else, we have learned tax dodging by extending the length of the deal is in this year. Devers is more likely to get 14/$320 than 10/$320…
  11. That’s what created the problem!!!
  12. It’s not so risky if the deal isn’t outrageous. The Braves locked up Harris ($9mill AAV) and Strider ($12.5mill AAV) in in to deals that are still movable even if they don’t continue to progress. On the free agent market today, those AAVs get you Brandon Drury and Tyler Anderson …
  13. Then deal him now. He’s worth more in the off-season than at the deadline
  14. … until the next morning…
  15. How did he not make the beverage name list?
  16. I liked Jacob Wallace more than I liked Wyatt Hill. Of course at some point I should concede Bloom and company might be better at evaluating pitchers than I am. (Or at some point maybe they should concede that they are not!)
  17. I do not get the point of complaining about minor league deals. They happen every off-season with every team, never hurt and occasionally actually help…
  18. 2020 can be looked at either way. The team was awful but the season was a slapdash joke. 2021 was good. 2022 was extremely disappointing. Especially after July 1…
  19. The Mets’ projected tax payments could wind up greater than the entire payroll of approximately 12 teams. Maybe more, depending on how the next 3 months shake out…
  20. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just buy a trophy? Heck it might be cheaper to just buy the company that makes the trophies…
  21. If they trade for Devers, they do have an uncashed check for $350mill that found it’s way back into their hands…
  22. Minor league deal. Not sure what the issue is…
  23. There are multiple websites with details of player contracts and team payroll. More than just Cots and Sportrac. Do you think that entire cottage industry of websites is just to cater to 5-10 fans?
  24. Who said anything about taking back Haniger? My point is so far he’s the bulk of their off-season activity. (I thought they added someone else?) Either way, losing Correa this way is the type of PR blunder that can only be remedied by massively overpaying for Devers..,
  25. Yes the Mets won’t want Devers. But the Giants? 81-81 last year and added Mitch Haniger? They’ll want Devers…
