  1. And the Mets aren’t trading anyone for a few months. The Mets will sign Britton (who also helps with their dearth of LHP) and let Robertson close. Robertson will be the closer. Draft accordingly in your fantasy leagues…
  2. And I think he started blocking my texts
  3. I’ve been saying that for about 5 or 6 DFAs now, but with more certainty…
  4. I won’t say the Mets are disinterested in Jansen, but this notion that the Sox could run up the price and bleed the Mets dry is a little silly. Jansen isn’t the only other closer in the world. As the Mets have already noticed, the closer market isn’t completely dry. Not to mention they do have Dave Robertson, who has more experience and a better track record than Daniel Hudson, who is also taking over the closer role for an injured pitcher for another of MLB’s highest payrolls. The notion that the Mets “need a big name” is silly, too. They just need someone to get late-game outs…
  5. What they need are WiFi-enabled electric razors…
  6. And the Mets are at the Britton showcase. Not exactly a tough prediction. If he looks half decent, I think we know who wins that bidding war…
  7. CD? Is he being compensated in 1996?
  8. What else does he have? The ability to help opposing hitters up their stats?
  9. Or just look in the Sox own minors. The Sox have high velocity fastballs all over the farm system, from Altavilla to Zefferjahn. Norwith Gudino, Jacob Webb, Theo Denlinger, Ryan Fernandez. All throw just as hard as Ort. All are younger, too. Including Altavilla…
  10. Hey at least they didn’t cut the dental plan for the accounting office again…
  11. And also do they get to keep the trumpet player?
  12. I’m sure the Mets hang up just at the mention of Parada and long before Joel Davis and Jarren Duran get mentioned…
  13. The Mets went on a spending spree and roster makeover that cost them 0 top prospects. If they want to replace Diaz, they’ll either pay someone (Ken Giles?) or take on an expensive salary dump that doesn’t require unloading their Top 100 guys. And those deals will be out there…
  14. Kaleb Ort averaged over 96mph, which does give reason to garner interest. But then again - Jacob Wallace and Frank German also threw just as hard and both were traded away. Wallace in particular made no sense because he wasn’t even on the 40 man roster and was dealt for someone who needed to be (and had a less impressive resume). Of course while velocity is exciting and the most difficult aspect of pitching to teach, it also guarantees nothing. There’s a reason Jamie Moyer had a better career than Steve Dalkowski. And frankly, players like Ort who have hittable velocity are not exactly rare commodities to be hoarded and guarded. One of the hardest throwing MLB pitchers in the past decade was Tayron Guerrero. How many people ever heard of him?
  15. And before, too…
  16. Is Jansen a better option than the still-available Ken Giles or Zach Britton? Also Robertson has 157 career saves and a fair amount of experience closing in New York. I know the Mets have spent a lot, but Diaz himself was a long term commitment. In fact, most of their players were. They’ll be very much the same team in 2024, when everything returns to normal…
  17. ‘Twas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9yjcBRyNUo
  18. Can we at least lose a game before the fire sale starts? Also the Mets have experienced closers Dave Robertson and Adam Ottavino already on the roster…
  19. Good luck. This place has been going downhill since the Mesozoic Era…
  20. I think he is trying to say that Pivetta is the equivalent of the rodeo-star-turned-actor known for his roles in Dr. Strangelove and Blazing Saddles…
  21. What s difference does it make what team he accomplished it on? Opening day starter doesn’t go to the longest tenured member of team. When the Sox acquired Pedro Martinez, I am pretty sure nobody said “We’re giving the opening day nod to Tim Wakefield, because he’s been here longer. Plus you won that Cy Young award with Montreal. Not sure that even counts.” All I’m saying is Kluber at least has an impressive pitching resume. He does. His Cy Young awards still count even though he won them in Cleveland.
  22. I can hear the argument for fWAR. But World Series rings? Jake Odorizzi has more WS rings than Kluber (and as many as Sale). Would you make him opening day starter?
  23. Entirely possible Dalbec goes to Worcester and continues his SS/2b/OF play into the regular season. Not like Goodrum has laid an unchallenged claim to the AAA SS role…
  24. Wouldn’t two time Cy Young winner Kluber - who didn’t miss last year - have equal claim or better to the opening day starter role? I could see Sale having a beef if he was behind Crawford or Whitlock or Pivetta. But Kluber does have one helluva resume of his own…
  25. Trend these days? Yeah it’s this brand new thing that just sprang up around 1900 or so. Probably won’t catch on…
