  1. Very true. They may spend more or less. But we do know these two non-disputable facts. 1. The money isn’t coming from a bottomless pit. 2. The Sox budget isn’t relying on input from Talksox, so complaining about people discussing it may not have the desired effect.
  2. Story’s arm strength dropped from a middle-of-the-shortstop-pack at 82mph down to a bottom-feeding 79mph. Of course, Dansby Swanson was already there..
  3. The OF choices are fading, but I prefer Brian Anderson over Conforto. But not by much…
  4. Go one year earlier and see how much further down younger versions of Rodon and Verlander were…
  5. Really? I didn’t like that the top 3 options (Rodon, deGrom, Verlander) were injured a lot or over 40.
  6. No Monkees jokes!!! You tork…
  7. I agree. And how many people realize he somehow out-homered Bogaerts last year? Another good player is Jurickson Profar. But his numbers at 2b are not as good or as recent as I’d like…
  8. Not all bad years are equal
  9. Park has been traded twice this off-season after being DFAd…
  10. I suspect Verdugo’s .693 vs LHP will go up once he stops seeing constant shifts…
  11. They’re pitchers. The Sox are holding on to pitching depth…
  12. I’m not as down on Dugo in RF as many. He certainly has shown he has the arm strength, but his accuracy can suffer. I’m thinking get used to Yoshida-Kike-Verdugo starting and an upgrade over Hosmer at DH…
  13. I did like Wallace. I prefer him over Wyatt Mills…
  14. Wyatt Mills was such an exciting acquisition that the MLBTR article about his trade was headlined about the player who was DFAd to accommodate him.
  15. Gallo to Minnesota for one year. Moving down the Notin preference checklist, Brian Anderson is up next! Although realistically the Sox are probably looking for a DH and plan on a Yoshida-Hernandez-Verdugo OF…
  16. When they acquired Hosmer, the only thing I liked was his salary. I’ve called him DFA fodder since day one. Not surprised. I will be surprised if they can work out a trade (which Hosmer would be able to veto)…
  17. Gallo to Minnesota. Sad. Jacob Wallace to KC. Even dealing my sleeper prospects. Wyatt Mills just didn’t thrill me. Maybe he will, but not hopeful. DFAing Hosmer hopefully means the Sox plan to get a real DH…
  18. Weak offense but Bradley did show last year he remains among the best defensive outfielders in MLB…
  19. Hey Pittsburgh gave up Clay Holmes to get him…
  20. Assuming no extensions, next year might not be as bad as this one. But pitching in free agency is best limited to relievers and backend starters. The system basically asks teams to pay pitchers in their 30s for what they did in their 20s for someone else. And do so for 6 or 7 years or more…
  21. Boston, like Atlanta, saw something in Park they liked. But apparently Boston was not so enamored with Park that they needed to keep him on the 40 man (like they keep doing with Ort for some reason). So they DFAd him, probably hoping he’d clear waivers. Atlanta also liked Park, and probably about as much as Boston. They might DFA him for the same reason Boston and Pittsburgh did. A few years back, there was a pitcher named Sandy Rosario who was DFAd and claimed maybe 7 or 8 times in one off-season. Teams liked him, but they didn’t love him…
  22. The list of players to give that contract begins and ends with Soto…
  23. This year, that did describe the top of the pitching market. That doesn’t mean he should ignore pitching, but hamstringing the financial flexibility just for having the privilege of placing a top tier arm on the IL next to Sale isn’t the best idea here, if it?
  24. This would be a good step…
  25. There’s always players who go through this type of thing every off-season. Essentially this trade has turned it Inmer Lobo for a PTBNL from Atlanta…
