  1. Maybe not but the vast majority of hitters in the Hall are that type of hitter…
  2. Casas is 1 for 6. Every hitter in MLB will have at least one 1 for 6 stretch. None of the stolen base stuff is on the catchers…
  3. Didn’t you do something for the basketball team when you were there?
  4. This feels like a question better handled by Alex Cora…
  5. Probably, but really only Baltimore has been exploiting the hell out of it…
  6. The Orioles figured out how to exploit the pitch clock. Up until this year, baserunners have used keys from the pitcher to optimize their jump, most common being the left heel (RHP) or the chin (LHP). Using these they could determine when a pitcher was going home or not. Now, just watch the pitch clock. It’s probably possible for most pitchers to simply see how long they hold the ball before starting their windup, but also if the clock just gets down to 2-3 seconds - just run. The pitcher doesn’t have time to throw over. The pitch clock (and other rules) have also all but done away with holding runners. Leads get longer. Why not? Virtually no risk. So easier timing + longer leads = easier steals. The Orioles clearly saw this. Now Boston has seen it firsthand and needs to follow in their exploitation of these same rules…
  7. One thing about the rule changes the Orioles found easy to exploit. Runner on first sees the pitch clock wind down to 2-3 seconds and you can just run. Pitcher doesn’t have enough time to throw over at that point and is basically committed to throwing a pitch…
  8. So you think other teams want him?
  9. I think he also used the Rule 5 draft to the letter of the rule, but not the spirit of the rule. That draft was instituted to keep teams from burying players in the minors when they deserved a chance. Song absolutely did not fit that bill…
  10. Whitlock, Bello and Paxton all have rehab starts next week. Hopefully they can provide some help. If Bello and Paxton can join the rotation, they bump Crawford and Houck back. I assume Whitlock could as well but who else gets bumped? Pivetta? Or does Whitlock join Houck, Jansen, Martin, Winckowski, and Bleier in the bullpen? I do suspect if all 3 come back, Ort, Kelly and Crawford get sent down…
  11. Couldn’t it be both?
  12. Sox bats look ok. But I’ve been saying all off-season the entire outcome depends on Sale. The early returns are not good. But on the bright side, only one more season after this one. ( Calling it now - his 2025 option based on a top ten Cy Young finish will NOT vest.)
  13. Yes it would be. But it looks like we have to settle for whatever Chris Sale is trying to do…
  14. The pitch clock has been a rule for a long time. It’s about time they just decided to enforce it…
  15. The problem isn’t that computers have gotten better. There has always been an innate nature among competitive types to seek out an advantage. This has been going on since Day 2 of organized sports. Just because the specific analytics are new doesn’t change this. And while maybe you didn’t like some of the strategies employed through analytics, there are probably other you did. Many people railed about the shift, for example (itself a 100 year old strategy), but how many people hate seeing the team’s best hitter bat second and come up more often?
  16. Do they need to DFA Brewer when any of those players return? All of them are currently on the 40 man. They would need to if Brewer has no options and the Yankees have no other injuries that necessitate keeping him…
  17. He still needs his 90 days. If the Phillies just keep rehabbing him and burying him on the IL, the Sox have a legitimate grievance…
  18. I did. This is also part of my issue with Bloom is how he seemingly ignores starting pitchers. I certainly don’t want anything stupid like another Price contract. And I get that he’s going to see something in the Martin Perez’ and Garrett Richards of the world that I don’t. But there has to be some middle ground in between not signing long term starting pitcher contracts and just signing one year deals. Especially if you don’t draft pitchers or trade for pitching prospects…
  19. Only the top 4 are even eligible. And all AAA teams are loaded with borderline veterans. AAA ball is barely considered the farm anymore…
  20. So the Yankees DFAd former superstar prospect Esteban Florial to make room for discarded Red Sox trash Colten Brewer??
  21. And also untrue. Kenley Jansen’s contract is larger. In terms of guaranteed money, Chris Martin’s is, too…
  22. Why? If you discount the deals from Dombrowski, the Sox don’t have a lot of big deals for pitchers. The largest one Epstein gave out was for Lackey, and it wasn’t really Earth-shattering at the time…
  23. I don’t think he ruined Song’s career. I go think he should have tried to complete a deal and simply optioned So g to the minors. And maybe he did try. Or maybe it was a token, lackluster effort…
  24. At their current pace, they’re a .500 team…
  25. I don’t get that. 1. While there are certainly more of them now, pretending analytics are a new development is simply historically incorrect. 2. The previous Arms Race that far too many players tried to use to gain an advantage but soon found it far too common was steroids. Was the game more fun then?
