    And some of them, possibly all three, will prove worthless. Yoshida is a bit too new to MLB and, heck, the United States in general to give up on yet. Story is showing he has the talent, but needs to stay on the field. At least Devers has been the safest Sox contract since Bogaerts.

    DD and Cherington (whom I unfairly omit from my “Things That Stopped Henry From Spending” list) both seemed to have more financial free rein than Bloom. Granted, I don’t know how Henry feels about bad one year deals, but I have my doubts he hates them more than the deals given to Sandoval, Rusney, Price, etc…

    I did. Oops. Tried to speak your language. Of course my gripes at the time about Price were that he was already 31 years old with 1,440 IP under his belt, and not very likely to get better or maintain performance and health over the next 7 years…

I mean, was Betts a generational talent or not? Did DD lock him up? Why do you give him a pass there? I mean, except for the obvious reason that you gave him a pass for everything. By the time Bloom came on board, it was too late to do anything but trade Betts…

    Was Price really worth 7 years $217mill thru age 38? At the time he had one season north of 3 bWAR since 2012. For reference, that’s the same number of seasons as a Brayan Bello…

    That’s not the numbers I keep seeing. 2023 is $7.5 mill, with a team option of 2 years $32mill. If declined, Wacha has a player option of 3 years $19mill, which he can exercise if he gets hurt badly…

    That’s 3 different administrations. It’s also possible the “lowball” offers never happened. Fans do have a tendency to believe the players over the front office, despite that the players are not necessarily involved in the negotiations…

    It’s not so much the money as it is having him get hurt every year for four years. I sprint have mine off they brought him back (preferably for a year or two). But Wacha is injured all the time and is 32 years old. That’s not likely to change from ages 33 thru 36…

    I get passing on Wacha. He’s 32 years old and hasn’t reached 130 IP since 2018. And he got a FOUR YEAR contract. I’d just assume let Chris Sale get lonely on the IL. Kluber actually pitched 164 IP last year, which is one inning shy of Wacha’s career high. Plus which of these two has the better resume?

    Martin came in with the game on the line in the eighth and did his job. Not using your best reliever when the bases are loaded and the cleanup hitter is up in a 2 run game because you want him to face the 5-6-7 hitters in the ninth is how games get lost…

    So… what the f*** is Cora thinking here? Urias to 3b and Devers to SS? Why not Urias to SS, where he played 200 innings last year? Why move Wong to 2b? Why not Turner to 2b and Casas to 1b? Is he unaware of the Sox defensive issues?

But if you can find the Sox Sign David Price in these board archives and waste precious life moments re-reading it, you’ll find one poster wishing he’d extended Betts instead of signing Price (and also hoping at a minimum, Price stayed healthy for 3 years and opted out)…

    I’m not putting it solely on Henry’s hands. I think Dombrowski is somewhat accountable for building a $240mill 84-win team that seemed to put the brakes on spending and for not locking Betts up much earlier…
