  1. 1. Tampa starting pitcher stats get skewed by usage of the opener. 2. It really is a bullpen game now, but there has to be some balance with not over relying on the bullpen…
  2. You’re arguing with someone who repeatedly adds a year or two to a Sox prospect and then calls it a fact. Please tell me you don’t think his quotes from a scouting report on Drogon are real, too…
  3. It really is. Injuries have played a part…
  4. And that 15-13 includes going 0-8 vs the NL Central…
  5. Not really sure why Cora liked playing Refsnyder vs RHP…
  6. Actually it saved one run, since a run did score on the DP…
  7. I don’t think a single person thought it was irony. When your message misses the masses, maybe the problem isn’t the masses…
  8. Going for the double play is AAA thinking? Cora’s job isn’t to bolster Paxton’s stats…
  9. And they’re teammates!!
  10. They simply do not play as much as other positions, including starting pitchers…
  11. To be fair, it does take stellar performance for a reliever throwing 30IP a year to be replacement level or better. Participation matters. If you use fWAR and seasons as a guideline, the greatest relief pitcher of all time was the fWAR equivalent of Gary Gaetti. And while Gaetti was a good player, is he really comparable as a third baseman to Mariano Rivera as a reliever?
  12. With the lengths on contracts today, this is not always a problem…
  13. I remember you saying something similar about Daniel Nava once
  14. He brought in Mondesi, although clearly underestimated his medicals, and brought back Yu Chang. Hoy Park was brought in twice as well, although not held on to. Chang proved more than sufficient on defense, but when Kike is the fourth stringer. How many other teams are using their fourth option anywhere?
  15. He has 4 IP on the year.
  16. Problem is he’s the 4th string SS, behind Story, Mondesi and Chang.
  17. Casas OPS in May is over .860. Don’t be fooled by his April…
  18. Garza wasn’t the problem. If Kike makes a good throw and they complete that double play, the third run doesn’t score and Joely doesn’t come in to face Fraley. Not sure why it would be better to have Winckowski victimized by shortstop defense…
  19. The way this thread is going, it doesn’t sound like Verdugo was available…
  20. If it helps the next two games, that’s a good thing. Winckowski is being used to protect leads, not long relief and not a guy you bring in for the fifth. Pivetta would be the guy for that role. How many IP did you think they want out of Winckowski today? And then tomorrow, when Justin Garza and Ryan Sherriff are trying to protect a one run lead in the 6th, will you be calling Cora out then, too?
  21. Casas has been rock solid all month. Hit Verdugo for Duran? I can see that. But it makes zero sense that Casas got to hit all of April when he was struggling. And then once he gets hot, you want to take the bat out of his hands…
  22. That number is carried by his bad April. In May his BA is .290…
  23. Entering tonight’s game, Casas was 6 for his last 15. Certainly not spectacular, but much better than the 5 for his last 24 that Verdugo put up…
  24. Up 8-0, we saw the dregs of their bullpen. Frankly, getting them to get Alexis Diaz to even warm up was a moral victory, let alone forcing them to use him in the game…
  25. And then he follows it up with a grand slam to a light hitting backup CF…
