  1. That might also be because Duran has made Rafaela that much more expendable and a potential trade candidate…
  2. If they need a reliever tonight, Sherriff might get a non-save inning or two just so he can get demoted (DFAd?) and a fresh arm called up. Likely Bernardino or Ort…
  3. I think we knew this was a likelihood all along. And could easily be the case in 2024 as well …
  4. No but you can’t blame pitchers on a pitch count for health concerns. There’s a difference between Paxton reaching his count or whatever and going 5, and Sale going 5. And Cora needs to absolutely plan for the first while being wary of the second…
  5. Maybe not. You spent all year last year crying for Whitlock in the closer role and the Sox never accommodated. So are you now arguing if the Sox make or don’t make the move, it’s automatically correct? Fact is, Rafaela is the best shortstop above Mayer in this organization and he’s already on the 40 man. Hit or not, is Rafaela an upgrade over a .660 OPS bottom five defender or not?
  6. Soxprospects agrees with you. ” Field: Versatile, standout defender. Has shown the potential to be a plus defender all around the diamond. Best position is center field, but organization has also continued to get him reps at shortstop. ”
  7. You’re being critical of Paxton’s IP?!?! The guy is coming off injuries that limited him to 21 IP total in the previous three seasons!!
  8. So Chris Martin comes in, gives up a leadoff double to one of the worst hitters in MLB, uncorks a wild pitch, and blows the save. And now he’s in line for a win. Yeah that’s a good stat…
  9. It needs no context. Is 28-27 awful? I don’t think so. It’s certainly not great, probably not good, and far from ideal. But it isn’t awful…
  10. I wouldn’t be surprised if he changed positions, especially if Duran continues to play well. Moving him to SS is certainly easier to see than moving Franchy to 1b…
  11. No. Unless you DFA someone. Rafaela does have the advantage of already being on the 40 man roster. Changing Rafaela’s position might be advantageous. He’s potentially trade bait off Duran sticks…
  12. Way to counter my idea with another example of it happening. That’s not how counterexamples work. And maybe Duran has taken steps towards being the CF of the future, so Rafaela can/should(?) be re-purposed. He has the skills.
  13. Still sticking with 24 in A ball? Stork never lets the truth get in the way of trash talk. How many years was he taunting this forum with “Bloom turned down Berrios for Duran” when that “rumor” was started by ME??!?
  14. Our standards don’t matter…
  15. People will get criticized anyway. As the saying goes, you can’t please all of the people all of the time. But you can please some of the people and the rest probably just hate everything anyway…
  16. And Betts was a 2b until they questioned if Bradley would ever hit MLB pitching. Players do change positions all the time. Heck the Marlins have last year’s SS playing CF this year…
  17. Heart or not, a starter going deeper only helps the bullpen. A staff will throw roughly 1450 IP per season. Normally a rotation giver 800-900 of those, and the bullpen picks up the rest. So obviously the lesser IP from the starters adds to that 550-650 IP workload that you’re already expecting the pen to handle…
  18. Maybe they tried but Devers (or his agent) was not amenable?
  19. More likely a DFA than a trade…
  20. That argument didn’t even make sense…
  21. 1. As a good shortstop, he is the best option at a defensive weak spot. 2. If he’s called up for defense, who cares how he hits? The guy he’s replacing is fielding poorly with a .660 OPS. If he fields well, how far below that .660 is acceptable?
  22. Cora used him smartly to get Fraley, but didn’t need to trot him out the following inning…
  23. Why not C: Wong 1b: Casas 2b: Hamilton 3b: Devers SS: Rafaela LF: Yoshida CF: Duran (eventually Duvall) RF: Verdugo DH: Turner BN: McGuire, Hernandez, Tapia, Refsnyder
