  1. We lived through Manny Ramirez in LF for nearly a decade. And got two rings with him out there. Yoshida won’t win any hardware, and might end up as a DH. But his glove won’t kill this team…
  2. That’s a better point, but not the one people are making right now…
  3. But my point about why I didn’t mind re-signing (not from that post)!stands - like Eovaldi sand Sale, he’s hurt all the time. That he went uninsured through June 3 this year didn’t change that.
  4. It’s amazing how much everyone hated the 2022 Red Sox but also clearly thinks letting any of them all go was a huge mistake. “We should have kept Wacha! We should have kept Eovaldi! We should have kept Vazquez! And Bogaerts and JD!!” Heck, I’ve even heard that we should have held on to Matt Strahm!! Did everyone sleep though 2022? Because no one seemed to enjoy these guys when we had them. Or were all the problems with that team because of Austin Davis?
  5. Again - I need a like button…
  6. To be fair, they have had over a century to update it…
  7. 72 was the highest number ever retired for a player, and it was for Fisk in Chicago. But the Cleveland then-Guardians retired number 455 to honor their fans for a string of 455 consecutive sell-outs..
  8. The Sox should be fined every game that wall is not padded. And the Cubs should be executed for using brick…
  9. We need a “like” button…
  10. There’s some cool retired number trivia I never knew. Like - what’s the highest number any MLB team retired?
  11. Well, it wasn’t 11 different players. Three teams retired it for Frank Robinson. (Cincy, Baltimore, Cleveland). And as it turns out, Arizona (Luis Gonzalez) and KC (Frank White) did retire it for non HOF talent. Still an excellent question. I had to look it up…
  12. This statement is not true…
  13. I was thinking 8, since the number used to be reserved for catchers. Yogi Berra and Bill and Bill Dickey for example. Plus you have Yaz, Ripken and Pops Stargell. But I looked it up. Not 8…
  14. Well, I mean I saw one day where EVERYONE wore it…
  15. Yes, Bloom was relentless in pursuing that one year deal…
  16. Wait until next year when they’re complaining about how Kike is succeeding for another team and how it was a mistake to let him go…
  17. Understandable, but I penalize Speaker for not wearing a Sox uni often enough. Dewey has no such issue and also belongs in Cooperstown…
  18. I’d go Dwight Evans before Speaker…
  19. Jimmie Foxx is far and away the most underrated hitter in MLB history…
  20. Mayer had only played Rookie ball at the time. Hopefully they were not signing MLB free agents with him in mind…
  21. But when he re-signed Kike, Story was still healthy. I don’t mind that they have Kike a shot. And they still had Chang in case things didn’t work out. But now it seems like they just want to force things to work out with Kike. Despite clearly not feeling that way when Chang was healthy. So I think this is partially on Bloom for not at least calling up Hamilton (or my choice in Rafaela, but really, what’s the argument against Hamilton right now?) and partially on Cora for not starting Reyes at SS…
  22. Mondesi was a trade…
  23. I think they hoped Mondesi wouldn’t be out so long. Not sure if they’re fan familiar with his history. But I also don’t think they thought all three of Mondesi, Story and Chang would just keep missing time. Still, what does Hamilton have to do to get any attention? It’s like he was added to the 40 man (over Thad Ward) and then forgotten about…
  24. Despite being drafted two years later, Neto is 2 years older than Mayer. But your point that players do skip AAA is very true. It seems like in a lot of organizations, AAA is more about where you bury the bulk of your 14 players on the 40 that aren’t on the active roster alongside a slew of minor league contracts. Not sure if it’s used as a developmental step anywhere anymore…
  25. All the more reason to get someone else in there. The Sox have Reyes on the bench and two guys in the minors who I’d like to see get a shot to upgrade the position. Not sure what Kike has to do to lose the starting shortstop role. But apparently neither “field poorly” nor “hit poorly” are on the list…
